2017 Fratelli Barale "Le Rose" Dolcetto d'Alba

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Dolcetto d'Alba Le Rose offers a sweet and floral bouquet with rose hip, dried fig and cherry pie. The Dolcetto grape loves a hot vintage, and that's exactly what it got in 2017. Winemaking is simple (the wine completes malolactic fermentation in oak) in order to preserve that succulent and rich quality of fruit. This wine puts the dolce (or "sweet") in Dolcetto. (ML)" (08/2018)

2017 La Ca' Nova Langhe Nebbiolo

Antonio Galloni writes: "I was once again deeply impressed with the wines I tasted at La Ca' Nova this past summer. Of all the estates I visit regularly, La Ca' Nova may very well have the most untapped potential. The quality of the wines notwithstanding, prices remain incredibly fair."

2017 Anna Maria Abbona "Sorí dij But" Dolcetto di Dogliani

From the importer: The quality of Dolcetto from the village of Dogliani has been skyrocketing in the last few years, and Anna Maria's work is a good example of this. Her oldest vines were planted by her grandfather in the thirties, and the vineyards are steep and perfectly exposed. More recently she has become a convert to the doctrine of low yields, and she has joined the elite of Dogliani. First, understand that producers in Dogliani take Dolcetto as seriously as producers in Barolo take Nebbiolo. Dolcetto is planted in all the best sites and vinified ...

2017 Cascina Val del Prete "Luèt" Arneis Roero

From the importer: "Luèt meaning small wolf in the Piemontese dialect is made of Arneis, the historical grape from the Roero district. It is typically pleasing on the palate with slightly low acidity. Color: straw yellow with greenish hues Bouquet: floral scents with aromatic notes Taste: soft with a persistent finish Luet is made in a rich, creamy style that brings out the grape's richness and texture. This is one of the bigger, fatter versions of Arneis."

2017 Marco Porello Nebbiolo d'Alba

From importer Oliver McCrum Wines: I have been looking for a producer in the Roero (see Glossary) for some time, mainly because I like to drink Arneis (see Glossary), and that's principally where it comes from. They also make some very good Nebbiolo, in a forward, attractive style that is good for drinking young while you wait for your Barolos to come of age. One of the many producers I tasted with was the young Marco Porello, whose wines I found very well-made but lacking in concentration. At the 2002 Vinitaly trade fair Marco grabbed me and dragged me ...
