Franck Bonville Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
90 points Wine Spectator: "Lightly floral, this creamy crowd-pleasing Champagne shows good balance, with a lively mix of Honeycrisp apple, passion fruit and smoked almond. (AN)" (12/2015) Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Oger, Cramant, and Avize. From a 50-ha estate. Olivier Bonville is the third generation to make wine here. Super-clean fresh nose, smells like a health scrub. Vigorous mousse. Crisp edges and a creamy middle, streaked with verbena. More green than lemon, and just slightly sour. Quite weighty and substantial yet with a cutting ed...

2016 Byron "Nielson Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay (Elsewhere $40) (Elsewhere $40)
Top Pick!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chardonnay vines in the Nielson vineyard were originally planted in 1964; this wine comes from those cuttings used to replant. Youthfully shy on the nose, the 2016 Chardonnay Nielson Vineyard opens very minerally with aromas of saline, crushed shell, gunflint and toast with ripe Golden Delicious apple, baked quince, warm Meyer lemon, pie crust and peach. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rounded and silky, oozing layer after layer of ripe, savory, spicy fruits, framed with tangy acidity and finishing very long...

92 points Wine Spectator: "A rich and smoky base note of roasted nut supports flavors of lemon meringue pie, quince paste, toasted coconut and cumin, and spun honey. There's lovely creamy texture here, with finely meshed acidity throughout. (AN)" (12/2012) K&L Notes: Rated "Extraordinary" by the Underground Wine Letter, which states: "This is a gorgeous Champagne with richness, depth and complexity." Bonville's stunningly rich, creamy Blanc de Blancs has the minerality and zing that one would expect from an all-Chardonnay Champagne. The Bonvilles were ...

2017 Brewer-Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the great values out there, the 2017 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills offers thrilling notes of white flowers, white peach, currants, and toasted bread. This ripe, sexy wine is unquestionably at the same level as the more expensive single vineyard releases, and it will evolve for just as long. This was another thrilling lineup from Greg Brewer, and I consistently rate these wines as some of the greatest in the Sta. Rita Hills, as well as all of Santa Barbara County. In addition to the latest releases, I was also able to taste re...

2018 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay
Top Pick!
The cool Carneros region, where San Pablo Bay meets both Napa and Sonoma Valleys, provides beautiful, fresh acidity and the key sense of balance for these fan-favorite Chardonnays. Rombauer has been producing the Carneros-specific Chardonnay since 1990, and the 2018 is another pristine example of this classic style balancing bold fruit and lively acidity.
Price: $36.99

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The citrus, almost golden colored 2012 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Pur Oger is sourced from two specific vineyards in Oger (Les Noyerots and Les Rumigny) that were harvested on September 15th, exactly a week earlier than the corresponding three plots for Pur Avize. The wine displays a deep, rich, tropical yet more aristocratic and mineral bouquet of intense brioche and nougat aromas as well as ethereal, refreshing lemon and limestone notes. Full-bodied, round, rich and complex on the palate, this is a mouth-filling...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine comes from Le Mesnil, one of the top villages in the Côte des Blancs, and is produced from only Grand Cru vineyards. It is as textured and mineral as a young wine like this should be. White fruit shows through the concentrated texture and will become more dominant as the wine matures. (RV)" (12/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sourced from three vineyards in Mesnil (Les Zailleux, Le Tilleul and Les Hautes Mottes) that were picked on the same day (24th of September), Olivier Bonville's citrus colored ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This explosive, ripe wine is part of a trilogy that the producer has made from three of the greatest villages in Champagne. This tense, mineral-driven wine is rich with white fruits. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sourced from three specific vineyards in Avize (Les Chapelles, Les Avats and Les Maladries), the 2012 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Pur Avize is a bright colored Côte des Blancs with a terrific deep and aromatic bouquet of smooth chalk, juicy tropical fruit and lemon notes....

The Ariston's vineyards are vastly different than those of the other blanc de blancs producers that we carry. The steeper slopes, less chalk and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style of Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This is one of my favorite toasting Champagnes. All of the flavors are up-front; it is open-knit and fun. It is a perfect way to start a party. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
Price: $34.99

This is a charming Chardonnay from a small grower in the Mâcon. Lionel Rhedon-Marin is a recent graduate of the College of Viticulture in the nearby village of Davaye, where Guffens trained. All of their young-vine fruit is sold in bulk to one of the better negociants, who is pleased to have it, since Lionel is such a careful grower. But their old-vine fruit, all over 45 years of age, is kept for the Domaine's wine, which is tantalizing and elegant. Our staff raved: "Every vintage the Domaine des Niales wine is one of my favorites from the Maconnais." Be...

2007 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Fascination" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
Alexandre le Brun is a young, ninth generation winemaker in Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. We were very pleased to meet him and are very excited to carry his wines.

2018 Helen's Hill "Ingram Road" Chardonnay Yarra Valley Victoria
Top Pick!
94 points James Halliday: "Selective-harvested, pressed to French puncheons (10% new) for primary (wild) ferment on solids, 20% mlf, 11 months in barrel with occasional batonnage. Fruit-driven, with good varietal expression (grapefruit, green apple) and bright acidity. The screwcap guarantees 5 years accumulation of complexity without loss of fruit freshness." (08/2019)

From the Michael Mondavi Family of wines. "We source Spellbound wines from winegrowing regions throughout California where warm sun and cool, moonlit nights result in expressive, approachable, balanced wines. These wines are true to their roots, expressing ripe varietal character with a style that elevates every occasion—from special events to everyday meals around the family table."
Price: $11.99

This 100% Avize Grand Cru bottling is pure estate and all fermented in stainless steel. It comes from the "miracle" 2012 vintage, one of the smallest, most high-quality crops of the decade. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
Price: $39.99

This Champagne comes from one plot of 70-year-old Chardonnay vines in the Montagne of Reims village of Trepail. It is aged for three years on the lees. The Champagne has a chalky, creamy, bready nose, and a concentrated impression on the palate. As one would expect from such ancient vines, it delivers the goods on the finish with plenty of chalk as well as a bit of honey and white fruit. This makes a perfect aperitif, but will also pair well with seafood such as seared scallops or even raw oysters. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
Price: $39.99

Franck Bonville "Belles Voyes" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Spectator: "Richly spiced, with ground anise, clove, ginger and cardamom, this offers a lively bead, fresh acidity and flavors of quince, honey, pastry dough and golden raisin. Offers a soft, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This has finesse and elegance, with a thin stream of bubbles and crisp, dry apple flavor. It is taut with a cool feel. (RV)" (12/2012) K&L Notes: This is one of the best Champagnes we carry, regardless of price. Made from the one-and-three-quarters-acre Belles Voyes vineyard in Oger, this ...

90 points James Suckling: "An attractive, regular Chablis that has bright dried-pear and apple-ring character, quite generous body, but enough lemon-peel freshness to carry it. Some chalky minerals at the finish. Drink on release." (02/2019) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Long-Depaquit's 2017 Chablis Villages is performing nicely from bottle, offering up aromas green apple, lemon, smoke and oyster shell. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with good volume and a bright spine of acidity. It's a precise but accessible generic Chablis that's alrea...

2018 Kalinda Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Top Pick!
The K&L Kalinda wines are consistently among the best values in our store. We work closely with top producers to bring you first-rate wine at reasonable prices. We can't reveal our sources, but we can say that this is a steal. A very fine value with great acidity and some appley notes on the palate.
Price: $14.99

Domaine Begude is a small family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself to the production of crisp and delicate wines. From predominantly clay and limestone soils on southeast facing vineyards, this wonderful Chardonnay value contains a dose of Chenin Blanc and is ridiculously easy to love. Organic farming, low yields, and temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation with no oak influence make it possible for the purity of fruit to really shine ...
Price: $11.99

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from 100% Chardonnay that was aged on Viognier lees, the 2017 Vin de France Novellum boasts sensational notes of ripe citrus, white flowers, and spice, with loads of classic Catalanes salinity and obvious minerality. Aged in 15% new barrels, it’s medium-bodied, has remarkable purity, integrated acidity, and is a total steal at the price. Drink it over the coming 2-4 years." (11/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium-bodied 2017 Novellum Chardonnay ages on Viognier lees for textural enrichment, plus 15% of the vo...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming mostly from the Russian River, with small parts from Sonoma Coast and Carneros, the 2017 Chardonnay was brought up 15% new oak for 15 months. It has classy, rich notes of white flowers, brioche, honeysuckle, and a touch of minerality. Rounded, supple, beautifully textured, and long, it's a smoking value. Drink through 2023." (06/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chardonnay has soft notes of white peach, Meyer lemon and baker’s yeast with notes of hay, hazelnut and spring blossoms. Light to medium-bo...

2016 Maldonado "Farm Worker" Napa Valley Chardonnay
Back In Stock!
After working as the vineyard manager for Newton Vineyards for over 30 years, Lupe Maldonado bought a 10-acre piece of land in the cool southern tip of Napa (in Jamieson Canyon), and planted vineyards in the dark, gravelly clay soil. He brought in Jean Hoefliger from Newton as his consulting winemaker.
Price: $14.95

98 points Decanter: "The Dauvissat holdings touch La Moutonne but make a very different style to the Long-Depaquit wine. Fine, delicate and subtle, this lightly wooded grand cru takes your breath away with its focus, poise, and its thrilling length. Drinking Window 2024-2035. (TA)" (07/2018) 97 points John Gilman: "There was just a touch of frost damage in the domaine’s holdings in les Preuses in 2017, so the yields here were down by ten percent. The wine is brilliant, offering up a deep and enormously complex nose of grapefruit, tart pear, green apple...

93 points Decanter: "White flowers and minerals on the nose. Delicate but vibrant expression with zingy acidity and gentle citrus and creamy notes." (06/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Beauroy has a delightful bouquet with limestone-scented citrus fruit that fan out from the glass. The palate is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity, quite intense mineral-driven citrus fruit segueing into a poised, harmonious and stony finish. This is a well-crafted, delicious Beauroy. (NM)" (08/2016) K&L Notes: La Chabl...

96 points Decanter: "A complete wine with a beautifully complex citrus intensity, delicate floral notes, ripe stone fruit, crushed oyster shell and an underlying creamy smokiness. *Gold Medal Decanter World Wine Awards 2019*" (06/2019)

2016 Leeuwin Estate "Art Series" Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia
Top Pick!
98 points Bob Campbell: "Very light colour for its age and the bouquet is likewise fresh and young and unevolved. There are subtle grapefruit, spice and nougat aromas and the oak is taking a back-seat. The wine is still tight and reserved, and really needs to be cellared. It's concentrated and will reveal much more if given time. It has outstanding length and finesse. Great potential. - Huon Hooke, The Real Review" (05/2019) 98 points James Halliday: "Straw-green in colour and powerful from the outset. Pure, juicy pear, white peach, sparks of spice, ce...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Denois’s non-vintage Chardonnay Brut Blanc de Blancs. Legally, this “traditional method” wine is merely a vin mousseux, yet it is in fact a tribute to the terroir of Limoux (whose sparkling wine appellation must be based on the local Blanquette de Limoux a.k.a. Mauzac grape, for which Denois evidently has little respect). It will be hard to find a more delicious and interesting sparkling wine for the price. Ripe apricot, grapefruit, blueberries, and lily in the nose lead to an intensely pit-fruited palate that – despite a ...

2007 Thiénot "Black Ball" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (Previously $120) (Previously $120)
Top Pick!
Absolutely incredible opportunity on this creamy, supple blanc de blancs that still has great focus and precision and superior, long, mineral finish. Like all of the Thienot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly seventy acres of vines. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer) From the winery: "In 1985 Alain Thiénot launched his eponymous Champagne House, driven by his experience as a courtier and close-knit relationships with Champagne growers. This was quite a challenge in a sector where the greatest names began their...

2017 Lúuma (AKA Wine Co.) Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Top Pick!
A very fresh, bright, floral, crisp Chard, perfect for summer sipping. Nice weight and richness on the palete but with zesty acidity and mineral tones. Very minimal oak influence here. Fantastic value for money! A lovely everyday "house" Chardonnay or crowd pleasing party wine. Delicious! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Domestic Wine Buyer)
Price: $19.95

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is an elegant, crisp white from Tony Biagi that has terrific notes of white flowers, pineapple cream, and lime. With both richness and freshness, drink this smoking value over the coming 2-4 years." (01/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "A layered and flavorful Chardonnay with lots of cooked apple and hints of lemon rind. Full body, hints of vanilla and green apple yet its full malo. Some lime undertones." (11/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast (aged ...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A classic Meursault nose of hazelnut, white peach and soft pear aromas gives way to fresh, vibrant and energetic middle weight flavors that culminate in a lingering if mildly bitter finish. My note assumes that the bitterness will quickly dissipate as I suspect that it's sulfur-related." (01/2011) Wine Spectator: "Loosely knit, featuring baked apple and grapefruit flavors with a touch of spice. This is rich, just lacks focus, ending with echoes of apple and spice. Drink now through 2014. (BS)" (02/2012)
Price: $44.99

2015 Jean Claude Poisson Bourgogne Blanc
Top Pick!
Writing in Vinous, Stephen Tanzer reported: "The very warm, dry growing season of 2015 yielded Burgundy’s fleshiest, most opulent white wines since at least 2009. The 2015 whites are clean, pure and rich, favoring ripe orchard and soft citrus fruits over minerality, as is typical of very warm, sunny years." (09/2016) This blanc by Jean Claude is a solid, everyday white Burgundy that captures the essence of the vintage.
Price: $11.99

2017 Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc "Les Sétilles"
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "As always a fresh and clean white with sliced cooked apples, lemons, some mango and a hint of stone. Medium-bodied, clean and bright. Drink now." (01/2019) 90 points Decanter: "No fewer than 65 parcels go into this commendably reliable cuvée, sourced from vineyards in Rully, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and the Hautes Côtes. It's lightly wooded, appealingly fresh and showing good citrus-like ping. (TA)" (10/2017) Wine Spectator: "This is bright, showing lemon, apple and light spice notes on a sleek frame. Leaves a mouthwat...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the heartland of Chardonnay in Champagne comes this rich, creamy, apple-flavored wine. It has lively acidity, balanced with some sweetness from the dosage. It has weight and a crisp aftertaste. (RV)" (12/2012) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Lightly floral, this creamy crowd-pleasing Champagne shows good balance, with a lively mix of Honeycrisp apple, passion fruit and smoked almond. (AN)" (12/2015) Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Oger, Cramant and Avize. From a 50-ha estate. Olivier Bonville is the third generation...

2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Bourgogne Blanc
Top Pick!
Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A smoky nose reveals notes of straw, ripe pear and plenty of petrol influence. There is both good vibrancy and solid volume to the delicious and focused flavors that conclude in a clean, dry and crisp finish that is quite refreshing. This nicely complex offer should drink well early and with a few years of bottle age on it. *Outstanding, Top Value*" (06/2019)
Price: $29.99

This extra brut is not nearly as dry and steely as one might expect, as it is sourced from the Hugot estate's very old massal selected vineyards in the grand cru's of Cramant and Chouilly. It is Meursault-like in its richness, with subtle pineapple notes framed by fresh baguette flavors. Don't be afraid to drink this as an aperitif! It is quite rich and broad for an extra brut! 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This white is bold and brawny in up-front apple and mango flavors and broadly structured and expansive on the palate in fleshy lush waves. An exotic back note of vanilla butterscotch beckons amid a tight tart finish that freshens as it lingers. (VB)" (07/2018) K&L Notes: The 2015 La Cruz Chard is a big hit with K&L staff. See reviews below! Winemaker's notes: "La Cruz Chardonnay is a classic Burgundian style Chardonnay, fermented in barrel with native yeasts and aged sur lie. Keller Estate produces wines exclusively from the...

2017 Jacques Bavard Bourgogne Blanc
Top Pick!
Allen Meadows writes: "Jacques Bavard is a former Paris restaurateur and a fifth generation Puligny winemaker. He lives in the old stone house of his grandfather on the Grand Rue. However, he is not farming his family vines but has become a micro-négoce working closely with several growers. Bavard prefers early picking since he believes Burgundy needs nervous energy to better display its terroir. He works with a mix of conventionally-sized barrels (and with 350 liter barrels) with the goal of obtaining more volume on the mid-palate but with less wood inf...

2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos de la Mouchère"
Back In Stock!
95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is sufficiently reduced that it presently masks the fruit and if you're tempted to try a bottle in its youth I would strongly advise decanting it first. Otherwise there is outstanding density to the focused and powerful middle weight plus flavors that stain the palate with dry extract that also helps to buffer the intensely mineral-driven finale that just goes on for minutes. This is flat out brilliant though note that it will not be an early drinker. In sum, this is a genuine 'wow' wine. *Outstanding*" (06/2016...

Jancis Robinson: "Easy-drinking, medium body. Apple fruit, a touch of salinity adds some interest on the finish. Smooth texture with a snappy finish. (RH)" (01/2019) K&L Notes: "Garagistes," the Langoureaus mostly concern themselves with making white Burgundy from St. Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet in their cellar.

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Offering up pretty aromas of buttered apples, citrus oil and subtle white truffle that are subtly framed by new oak, the 2016 Chardonnay Steiner Vineyard is full-bodied, succulent and flavorful, with an ample, even lavish attack but with good underlying, balancing acidity. Concentrated and lingering, it's a lovely example of Sonoma County Chardonnay. (WK)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Beautifully situated in the far south of Bennett Valley, on the northern slopes of Sonoma Mountain, the Steiner Vine...

Ready to get inox-uclated? If you're looking for a domestic chardonnay that won't break the bank, but that's also made in an Old World style, don't miss the Inox Chardonnay from Chehalem. The folks at Chehalem suppress malo on this tank-fermented chardonnay (Inox takes its name from the French word for stainless steel, inoxydable.), highlighting the full range of aromas and flavors of the Willamette Valley fruit. Pure and explosive aromatics redolent of late-summer/early fall farmers' market-stone fruit, citrus, melon, green apple and pear notes are grou...

2017 Diatom "Katherine's" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from the Santa Maria Valley (this label is by and large focused on the Sta. Rita Hills), the 2017 Chardonnay Katherine’s just jumps from the glass with a perfumed, tropical bouquet of ripe citrus, spice, dried pineapple, and mango notes. Showing more and more classic salinity and oyster shell characteristics with time in the glass, it’s medium-bodied, has bright acidity, a layered, viscous texture, and a beautiful finish. It’s going to evolve for 8-10 years at a minimum. " (10/2018) 94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chardonnay ...

This great bottle comes from the far northern edge of Champagne in the Massif St-Thierry, north of Reims. All of the vines for this 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Meunier cuvée come from Cormincy, the last village in Champagne before the flats facing out towards the Ardennes. As one would expect from a Blanc de Noir, this is a full-bodied wine with plenty of savory red fruit flavor. Due to its far northern provenance, this Champagne also has great snap and refreshment to balance out its power. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a strong woody touch to the nose of this bottling along with dried peach and dried mango aromas. The palate begins with a strong citrus-peel flavor then leads into green-pear and cider-apple flavors. The finish is a unique touch of kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass, which would go well with a wide variety of food. (MK)" (12/2018)

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chardonnay Edna Valley is also terrific, with a slightly more layered, textured style and less minerality than the Santa Cruz Chardonnay. Ripe orchard fruits, some tropical notes, background oak, and a medium-bodied, rich, balanced texture all make for a terrific cool climate Chardonnay to drink over the coming 7-8 years." 2017 Château Vitallis St. Veran "A La Cote"
Top Pick!
Vitallis is a new "hidden gem" our buyers found in the Mâcon, where small producers fly under the radar. In classic Burgundian fashion, the Dutron family has been growing vines since 1835, and now owns some of the oldest and best parcels in the village of Fuissé in the Pouilly-Fuissé district. In the glass, the wines live up to the hype.

91 points Vinous: "Limpid yellow. Bright and energetic on the nose, displaying fresh citrus and orchard fruit qualities and subtle vanilla and ginger flourishes. In a lively, precise style, showing very good definition and minerally cut on the back half. Finishes silky and quite long, with repeating citrus character and a sexy honeysuckle nuance.
