2016 Domaine Lafage "Bastide Miraflors" Côtes du Roussillon
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that almost always over-delivers, the 2016 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is, I suspect, the finest vintage for this cuvée to date (it’s in the same league as the off-the-charts 2015). A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache from Lesquerde and Saint Martin de Fenouillet (both in the northern part of the Roussillon), aged all in older barrels and concrete tanks, it boasts rockstar notes of ripe blackberry fruits, spice, dried garrigue, and hints of chocolate. Possessing a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, a...

2017 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Cremant de Limoux
Top Pick!
From the importer: "Limoux is the world's original birthplace of sparkling wine, with the first bubbles produced here in the year 1544, some 150 years before Dom Perignon began making sparkling wine in Champagne. Only 24 wineries exist in Limoux and Antech (pronounced "An-tesh") is by far the region's most celebrated producer, known for the purity and elegance of the sparkling wines they produce. The estate was originally planted to 150 acres six generations ago, and 24 acres have been added over the years. In addition to their estate grapes, for the la...

Jancis Robinson: "From Limoux, but without Chenin Blanc in the blend it can't be called Crémant de Limoux. Full bodied, showing some lovely development with a neat bead. Mouthfilling citrus tang, and very satisfying. Would put many Champagnes to shame, quite frankly. *Very Good Value* (TC)" (07/2014) K&L Notes: Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, yes! There may be those who would scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low could never be worth any serious consideration. Well, we're...

2017 Château de L'Ou "Secret de Schistes" Côtes Catalanes
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the gems in the lineup is the 2017 Cotes Catalanes Secret De Schistes which is all Syrah from the higher elevation sites of schist soils. Aged 17 months in new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of crème de cassis, blue fruits, classy oak, and graphite that opens up with time in the glass. Possessing full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and again, this voluptuous, weightless texture, it’s a brilliant wine that will keep for over a decade. This is one of those wines that blends elegance and richness brilliantly. *Top 100 W...

2018 Antech "Emotion" Cremant de Limoux Brut Rosé
Top Pick!
The Antech "Emotion" is a little something different: a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Mauzac and Pinot Noir from the AOC Crémant de Limoux in the Languedoc region of southern France. Since the 2012 vintage it has been a huge hit with our staff; now it is back, to make our evenings and dinner parties sparkle just that much more. Pale pink hue, fine bead, delicate hints of cherry and strawberry with white floral notes. A crisp, elegant sparkler made in the traditional method, spending 15 months in the bottle before disgorgement. At way less than the p...

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean-Louis Denois makes exciting, world class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ...

2017 Domaine de la Réserve d'O "La Réserve d'O" Terrasses du Larzac
Top Pick!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The primary production of the estate, the 2017 Terrasses du Larzac La Réserve d’O is a blend of 45% each Grenache and Syrah, plus 10% Cinsault. Aged in tank and amphorae, it's a delicious blend of cherries, raspberries and blueberries with garrigue and violets. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky in texture, with only soft, ephemeral tannins on the finish. (JC)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: We met Marie Chauffray at the Vinifilles tasting in January of 2015 in Montpellier. The Vinifilles (which means "wine girls") is an ...

2017 Chateau de L'Ou "Infiniment" Côtes Catalanes Rouge
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cotes Catalanes Infiniment De L'Ou comes from vines around the estate, which is located on the lower plains of the Roussillon, not too far from the Les Aspres region. Awesome notes of blueberries, crushed violets, incense, toasted bread, and spice all give way to a perfumed, sweetly fruited, seamless red that has no hard edges and beautifully polished tannins. " (09/2019) K&L Notes: Séverine Bourrier came to winemaking through her own passion for the subject, not having the family history associated with so many winemak...

92 points James Suckling: "A refined blend of grenache and carignan with cherry and strawberry flavors, as well as hints of flowers and lemon rind. Medium body. Delicious finish." (12/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry-level red from this estate is the 2015 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Cuvee Constance, and it’s a beauty to buy by the case. Black raspberry, cassis, pepper and wood smoke all emerge from this total charmer that has ample fruit and texture, and a great finish. The blend is 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan age...

2019 Château Saint Jacques d'Albas "La Chapelle en Rose" Minervois Rosé
Top Pick!
Situated to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne and in the shadow of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) lies Minervois. The village of Laure-Minervois is home to Château Saint Jacques d'Albas, a 90-hectare hillside estate. Some 26 hectares of the estate are planted to vines, with the rest composed of forests and creeks acting as a natural barrier to their neighbors. At the winery, a small team, led by owner Graham Nutter, crafts superb reds, whites and rosés, all of which are farmed organically. The "La Chapelle en Rose" is a blend of 50% direct...

2015 Thunevin-Calvet "l'Amourette" Côtes du Roussillon-Villages Rouge
Top Pick!
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 60% Mourvèdre and 40% Grenache, the 2015 Côtes du Roussillon Villages l'Amourette sports an inky purple color as well as rocking notes of black raspberries, plums, crushed rock and pepper. Rich, concentrated and rounded, with a great texture, I suspect it might shut down shortly after bottling, so either try it right on release or give it 2-4 years. (JD)" (04/2017)
Price: $16.99

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A brilliant wine that readers should snatch up is the 2016 Cotes Du Roussillon Villages Tautavel Silex, a Grenache-dominated blend that includes 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan. It was completely destemmed and brought up all in tank. Rocking notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, licorice, garrigue, new leather, and loads of peppery goodness all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort. Rich, full-bodied, nicely concentrated, and with ripe tannins, this sensational Tautavel is already approachable today yet will keep for 8-10 yea...

91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Languedoc Les Darons is made from 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Carignan that’s mostly from older vines in the Minervois. It saw a touch of whole clusters in the fermenters and is still aging all in concrete tanks. It's deep purple (almost inky) and offers a sensational perfume of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, ground pepper, and earth. Deep, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and long, it shows the purity and sexiness of the 2017 vintage and is going to be a killer value." (06/2019) 90 points Robert Park...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from all Chardonnay aged on Viognier lees, the 2018 Chardonnay Novellum reveals a medium gold color as well a rich, textured style. Honeysuckle, white peach, brioche, and spice notes all flow to a rounded, textured, layered beauty that's well worth the going rate. Brought up mostly in stainless steel, with 15% in new French oak, this wine always seems to deliver the goods, and the 2018 is no exception." (04/2019)

Importer notes: "Founded in 1932, this Cave Coopérative is located in the top commune of Pomérols, between the garrigue of Pezenas and the sea dominated by the Mont St Clair in Sete. The members control 1,200 hectares (2,964 acres) of vineyard land, of which 330 hectares (815 acres) is Picpoul de Pinet. The color is a superb pale yellow with bright hues. The nose is elegant, with aromas of fresh fruit and citrus fruit especially grapefruit. Well-balanced with typical zesty acidity. Known as the ‘Muscadet of the South’, Picpoul is perfect with oysters and...

Vinous: "Diaphanous pink. Spice-accented strawberry and tangerine scents display a subtle floral quality. Lithe and precise in style, showing no excess fat to the fresh red berry and citrus fruit flavors. Finishes firm and nervy, leaving a subtle floral note behind. (JR)" (06/2020)

Wine & Spirits: "This sparkler's zingy lemon-lime flavors evolve into fuller pineapple and citrus notes, a yeasty character adding breadth and weight. The full flavors and light, cardamom-like spice suit it to the dinner table, with rich fish or roasted chicken." (06/2010) K&L Notes: You should always have a handful of bottles of this sparkler on hand for impromptu parties (because a sudden Tuesday night fete with your pals is, of course, better with bubbly). This wallet-friendly "Blanc de Blancs" drinks like an expensive French Champagne, with a rich ...

From the importer: "The Fontsainte vineyards surround the hamlet of Boutenac in the area known as “The Golden Crescent.” This swath of land is one of the sunniest in the appellation of Corbières, enjoying south-southeast exposure, and protection from the cold, northeast winds by a large 500-hectare forest. The cooler sea breezes from the Mediterranean help this sun-soaked terroir achieve balance as well. Like many of the vignerons that we work with, Bruno believes that “great wines are made in the vineyard” and less in the cellars. He farms the land sust...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Mas de Daumas Gassac Vin de Pays de l'Hérault (92ST). 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar July/Aug 00: "Bright, saturated ruby-red. Subtly perfumed aromas of redcurrant, leather, and iron. Dense, sweet and thick, with a remarkably chewy texture. Tannins spread out horizontally on the palate. Very long but a bit squashed by the bottling. From a sample bottled a month prior to my visit: Good deep red. More aromatically complex nose of cherry, redcurrant, candied blackberry, fresh blood, game, licorice, leather, iron and tobacco. Smooth, thick and deep; an uncanny combination of dense texture and spine. Finishes very long and subtle, with superb vinosity and noble tannins that spread out to coat the entire palate. An outstanding vintage for Daumas Gassac. This is distinctly less sweet in style than most Languedoc wines, but more sophisticated and built for long life."
Starting Bid: $80.00
