Champagne

Here you'll find all the familiar and famous producers at very competitive prices, but even more exciting is the smaller grower-producers that we offer. K&L imports many of these grower-producer Champagnes directly, saving you a bunch of money that would otherwise end up in the pocket of an importer or distributor. The folks are able to control the entire process of making their Champagnes, since they do the vineyard work as well as the winemaking. In addition to the Champagne selection shown below, we operate a Champagne Club that you don't want to miss.

2012 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
98 points John Gilman: "The 2012 vintage of Cristal is the first to be produced entirely from Demeter-certified, biodynamically-farmed fruit, which is a landmark for Maison Roederer. The future is now here! I have been looking forward to this release of this vintage of Cristal for a few years now, but sadly found myself not in top form to appreciate its debut, as I was so suffering from jet lag after my three weeks on the road in November that my energy level was no match for this beautiful young wine. The 2012 Cristal is its customary cépages of sixty p...

2008 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "A slightly more luxurious nature to the 2008 than the great 2007. Full-bodied with a lovely framework of acidity and dry fruit, such as apples, pears and peaches. Opulent. Dense and muscular. Yet, it’s balanced and harmonious. Line of acidity at the end. One for the cellar. Release in 2020. Drink or hold." (07/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Taittinger's 2008 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is being released this year, and it will be worth a special effort to track down. I wrote in August 2019 that th...

96 points Decanter: "60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grands and premiers crus; 15% fermented in old oak barrels. The complexity and richness of Special Cuvée is unparalleled among the entry non-vintage blends of every Champagne house, short of ascending to the mesosphere of Krug. Its grand recipe explains why, built on incredible depth of 50%-60% reserves. Triumphant complexity is a given at Bollinger, but it’s the dynamic freshness and vitality that really set it apart as one of the most afforda...

Ariston Aspasie "Réserve" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
Don't let the name change fool you, this is the same great Champagne that used to be called "Carte Blanche". The Ariston Aspasie reserve is made of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Meunier. A balanced cuvée in every way, this Champagne is clean and powerful at once. It has a natural toasty quality from spending five full years on the lees, and plenty of refreshing zip from the far northern location of the vineyards. No bottle in our inventory transports me to Champagne like this one. It is as true to the terroir and as pure as anything I could wish...

Baron-Fuenté "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
90 points John Gilman: "Baron-Fuenté’s non-vintage Brut bottling is composed of a blend of sixty percent Pinot Meunier, thirty percent chardonnay and ten percent Pinot Noir, with all the vins clairs all fermented in stainless steel. It is a full malo wine and is aged three years sur latte, being finished with a dosage of nine grams per liter. I am not sure if this is the same release I reported on last year or a new cuvée, but the wine is showing very well. The bouquet offers up a fine constellation of white peach, apple, lovely Meunier floral tones, a t...

Billecart-Salmon "Brut Réserve" Champagne
Top Pick!
95 points Decanter: "A fine straw-gold colour with great finesse of bubble flow and mousse. Joyful aromas of apple blossom and ripe pear. A full, defined palate demonstrates richness that will help to give this a long life in the cellar. (ME)" (02/2017) 95 points James Halliday: "An uncommon blend of 40% pinot meunier and 30% each of pinot noir and chardonnay, with 40% reserve wines, fermented in a mix of tank and use of aged oak barrels. Deliberate choice of meunier is the key to its drink any time soon style, which combining elegance, finesse and gre...

2008 Le Brun de Neuville "Grand Vintage" Brut Champagne
Back In Stock!
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Almost entirely Chardonnay, with just a whisper of Pinot Noir, this is a dry Champagne. It is crisp, lively, steely and with great intensity. The apple and lemon flavors are just a part of this impressive wine that could age longer. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2017) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A firm version, with a light and lacy mousse carrying pretty hints of ripe black cherry, apple blossom, chalk and biscuit. Clean-cut on the moderate finish. (AN, Web-2017)" K&L Notes: This classic Sézanne Champagne is composed of 96% ...

Alexandre Le Brun "Tradition" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import, or even carry, from Champagne, at just 7.5 acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to négociants—his production is just one thousand cases a year total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and his hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and, although small, it is diverse. He farms 22 plots in eight different villages. Among these are some of the oldest vines i...

The Bonville family owns 50 acres of Grand Cru vineyards and uses exclusively estate fruit in this wine. This Champagne is a great example of how much more wine you get for less money compared to a big name non-vintage Champagne when the export brokers, import companies and distributors are taken out of the deal. This is 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Cramant and one hell of a wine. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

2007 Thiénot "Black Ball" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (Previously $120) (Previously $120)
Top Pick!
Absolutely incredible opportunity on this creamy, supple Blanc de Blancs that still has great focus and precision and superior, long, mineral finish. Like all of the Thienot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly 70 acres of vines.

2007 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "This is a step up from the linear and fresh 2006. It shows subtle depth and power with a dense block of vivid fruit that's highlighted with lemon zest, green apples and hints of white peaches. Just the right amount of praline and nuts on the nose. Fine and tight bead give the Champagne a luxurious mouthfeel. One for now or the cellar. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Always one of the great Champagnes, this comes from a year that is generally regarded as good but not great. And yet, with this Champagne i...

Baron-Fuenté "Esprit" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Spectator: "Creamy in texture, with mouthwatering acidity enlivening rich notes of bread dough, black currant, lemon curd, pastry cream and blanched almonds. Shows fine balance and length. (AN)" (12/2012) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "As with other Champagnes in the producer's range, this blends three vintages, giving it extra richness and depth of fruit flavor. Its toasty edge suggests it has also been aged in bottle. Attractive and ripe, it's ready to drink. (RV)" (06/2017) 90 points James Suckling: "A tangy and fruity Champagne with ...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A selection of wines with a good amount of reserves in the blend has produced this Champagne that is both toasty and freshly fragrant. The edge of acidity and spice contrasts with the more mature feel that comes through at the end. (RV)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: This all-estate Champagne is aged for six years on the lees and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. This wine has very fine, brioche-like aromas from the long sur-lie aging, as well as a savory cherry note from the high-quality Pinot. It is ver...

Jean-Jacques Lamoureux "Réserve" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
This is one of the most exciting small-estate Champagnes that we have found recently. It is composed of 100% Pinot Noir with a 2011 base wine blended with 2009 and 2010 vintage, 50% of which is reserve stocks. This is a clean style of Pinot Noir with fine acidity and a small bead. Frothy and just plain lovely! Watch the bubbles go on and on and on when it is in the glass. Initially, there are baked apple flavors followed a mid-palate of grapefuit and nectarine leading to a creamy finish. A very small 15,000 bottle production. Winemaker Vivien Lamoureux i...

Decanter: "Forward lactic charm, big bubbles and a rich, somewhat indulgent charm. Lemony and floral with crisp acidity, where coconut and green fruit marry. (Blind tasted by Stephen Brook, Jason Haynes, Jasper Morris M.W.) " K&L Notes: This all estate-grown Champagne comes from all 1er Cru vineyards on the "Petite Montagne," a beautiful part of the Champagne district between Reims and Epernay that is a little bit west of the beaten path. It is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Meunier. The wine benefits greatly from 50% reserve wines a...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This great rosé combines texture with bright fruit and a bit of age. It is poised between a ripe dosage and a crisp texture, with red fruits and toastiness marking the flavors. It is a fine bottling to enjoy now. (RV)" (10/2020) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Fragrant wafts of smoke and spice accent the steeped raspberry and mandarin orange peel flavors of this tightly meshed rosé Champagne, which is backed by a vivid spine of mouthwatering acidity and is silky on the palate, with hints of dried herb, licorice and toasted almond...

This blend of 55% Chardonnay, 25% Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir is entirely sourced from the Baron Fuenté estate in the western valley of the Marne. Because of the over six years on the lees, this zero dosage Champagne comes across as dry, but not at all austere. In fact, this wine is loaded with cream and brioche, focusing to a crisp finish. This is perfect for a wide variety of foods, but especially for shellfish! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

Wine Spectator: "Notes of citrus, clove and candied cherry permeate this rosé. Has finesse and harmony, with a bright finish. (BS) " K&L Notes: This full, rich rosé is composed of 60% Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir that has been macerated for 48 hours with all of its skins and it has 9g/l of dosage.

Bruno Michel "Assemblée" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
This fantastic Champagne used to be labeled "Blanche Brut" and comes from the villages of Pierry and Moussy in the sud-Épernay sub-region of Champagne. Bruno Michel has been organic since 1999. This Champagne is composed of 78% Chardonnay and 22% Meunier with 30% reserve wines. It is one of the most balanced Champagnes in our stock, with an effortless quality that is almost impossible to describe or resist. Laurent-Perrier "La Cuvée" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "The brioche and cooked-apple and cream character really comes through here. Full-bodied and round with fine bubbles. Flavorful and intense. Vivid, bread-dough finish. This is four years on lees. 55% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot." (07/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nonvintage cuvée from this producer is definitely on the dry side. Like many Champagnes in the range, it has benefited from long aging before release, giving a wine that has richness as well as great fruits, hints of maturity coming through. (RV)" (12/2020) ...

This balanced, elegant Champagne is composed of 30% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier. The grapes are all from the Gonet family's estate, spread from the southernmost premier cru of Vertus to the valley of the Marne. It is a gorgeous wine to toast with: bready, vibrant and flavorful. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
Price: $29.99

The Ariston's vineyards are vastly different than those of the other blanc de blancs producers that we carry. The steeper slopes, less chalk and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style of Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This is one of my favorite toasting Champagnes. All of the flavors are up-front; it is open-knit and fun. It is a perfect way to start a party. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

91 points Decanter: "Ter Noir is a blend of one-third Chardonnay, one-third Pinot Noir and one-third Pinot Meunier, with a dosage of 3g/l and no malolactic fermentation. Its limestone character stands out from the start with its apple, quince and spice bouquet. The palate is fresh and well-delineated, with the limestone-based acidity giving length. Le Brun de Neuville "Autolyse Noirs et Blancs" Brut Champagne
New!
This exceptional blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay is called Autolyse for its extraordinary time on the lees- more than 11 years! This very toasty, complex Champagne comes from old vines in the chalky Sezanne. We only were able to aquire five cases. -Gary Westby, K&L

92 points Decanter: "50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier from 100 villages in all, and including 30% reserves from 10 vintages back to 1995; a small proportion now being produced with malolactic. Black Label remains the confident barometer of Lanson, and Hervé Dantan’s first blend is a class act, a resounding statement of his talent in preserving the style and integrity of the house while meticulously polishing the edges. It’s a very important cuvée in the grand scheme of Champagne: one of the best and most consistent of the bargain set. (TS)"...

91 points Decanter: "The smouldering smokiness of reduction deliciously colours the nose. Notes of yeast, cardamom, honey, and fine sourdough on the creamy palate with restrained richness and steely grip. Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. Paul-Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. He feels that putting a vintage date on this wine would be an insult to his best vineyard plots. This vineyard was destroyed by hail in 2002, so this is the last we'll ever see of the old vines. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my 2010 trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic...

Full-bodied, round and pure, this is a generous, highly elegant, precise, finessed, fresh and stimulatingly salty cuvée with structure, grip and persistent vinous character. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Based on the 2014 vintage, complemented by fully 40% old reserve wines, the new release of Charles Heidsieck's NV Brut Réserve was disgorged earlier this year. It's showing very well, opening up in the glass with notes of green apple, dried white flowers, pear, candied peel and walnuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a textural attack and a racier, tighter-knit core than either the 2012- or 2010-base renditions, displaying good concentration and underlying richness. (09/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A grand wine, this is the 24th blend of Grand Siécle, the producer's top cuvée. About this producer: "In the 19th century the founder of the family, Marie Arsène Brochet, would carefully select the best vinestocks in the vineyard and identify them with a touch of paint on the trunk. Already, her primary focus was the search for a very special quality and typicity of terroir. Only those vinestocks marked with paint for three years in succession were selected for subsequent use in grafting. Through this selection massale technique, the Pinot Noir d’Ecueil has developed its exceptional character. This grape varietal is now used for ¾...
