95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Alsace Grand Cru Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain Riesling fermented very quickly and offers a pure and flinty note on the intense but (certainly) still reductive nose. Lush and juicy on the palate, this is a finely bitter Rangen with concentrated fruit, fine tannins and salty/mineral acidity. Very long and fresh, with rich and concentrated fruit but never without the purity of the Clos. A great wine that will need plenty of time. Olivier Humbrecht has released another great series of wines from a v...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a hint of wet chalk stone on the nose, along with crisp apple and a touch of lemon. The palate then amplifies both the chalky impression and the creamy mellow richness of the apple and the autolysis. This is restrained but very classic, understated but deeply satisfying with its creamy mousse, a hint of stone and the fruit-accentuated backdrop. The mousse is fine and the finish is wonderfully dry. (AK)" (11/2018) 90 points Vinous: "Pale straw with a persistent mousse. White stone fruit and fresh citrus on the delica...

2018 Julien Schaal "Gypse" Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru Alsace
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Wonderfully layered and rich with an intense, cooked-peach and tangy pineapple character. Full body. Power. Yet, direct acidity and alcohol gives this drive and precision. Drink now or hold." (07/2019) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A touch of reduction still accompanies vivid hints of peach and Mirabelle plum on the nose of this wine. On the palate the opulence of the fruit becomes apparent in the golden, juicy flow that brims with ripeness. Everything is checked and countered by vivid, bright freshness that almost has a pleasa...

2017 Charles Baur Eichberg Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Alsace
Back In Stock!
92 points Vinous: "Vivid deep straw-yellow. Aromas and flavors of peach, pear, white flowers and sweet spices complicated by lime. Big, rich and dense, this is still folded onto itself and needs time to develop further. A very pretty wine that finishes clean and long, with a powerful saline bent. (ID) 92+" (02/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "A sweetly fragrant nose here with focussed white melon and lychees, leading to a palate that offers quite sweet, rich and fleshy fruit. From organically grown grapes. Drink now." (07/2019)
Price: $24.99

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Initial Damask rose notes on the nose are filled out with ripe peach scents, with just a little air. The palate then majors on lemon-tempered, fresh and bottled peach fruit. This is medium sweet and totally juicy but comes with a welcome lemon fillip on the long intense finish. (AK)" (11/2018)

Stephan Reinhardt writes in The Wine Advocate: "The domain of Armand Baur and his son, Arnaud, is located in Eguisheim. They cultivate 18 hectares of vineyards surrounding the picturesque village south of Colmar, including the grand cru vineyards Pfersigberg (one hectare of Gewurztraminer) and Eichberg (2.5 hectares of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer) as well as the Turckheim Brand (0.5 hectares planted with Riesling and a bit of Pinot Gris). This family domain has been bottling wines for 70 years, and today their vineyards are completely...

Jancis Robinson: "A pretty, pale pink. Lacy, persistent bubbles. Clean, fresh and absolutely packed with ripe summer strawberries. Not remotely complex but there is so much delicious fruit in there that who cares?! (TC) " (03/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of crushed dandelion leaves and green apple on the nose of this wine have the slightest edge of yeast. The palate is lively and frothy, edging close to creaminess, while the finish is dry and lasting. (AK)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: Here at K&L we love dry rosé. We especially love rosé from France, and ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very ripe notes of pear and peach dominate the nose, while the palate brims with freshness. The concentrated body has texture from the zestiness but also that background of ripe richness. It finishes completely dry, with a streak of mandarin on the long finish. (AI)" (08/2018) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Beeswax and crushed pine notes are layered with poached apple, Marcona almond and lemon curd flavors in this dry, medium-bodied version, framed by sleek acidity and petrol-laced minerality. Drink now through 2026. (AN)" (02/2...

91 points James Suckling: "A spicy nose that has a fresh edge of lemon and grapefruit pith, as well as some flinty nuances. The palate has a very lemony and dry feel. Nice, crisp finish." (01/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A sleek, minerally white, with well-cut acidity defining flavors of white peach, pine and preserved lemon, showing a rich hint of passion fruit coulis. Fine and creamy, offering a lasting finish. (AN)" (02/2020) Vinous: "Bright straw-green. Ripe apple and mango nuances are complicated by fennel and chamomile. Enters broad, then t...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The pink-colored Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from different terroirs between Guebwiller in the South and Molsheim further north. Aged on the lees for 18 months before the disgorgement (13 grams per liter), this is a fruit-driven and charmingly sweetish, yet pretty fine sparkling wine with sweet cherry and red berry flavors. It has good freshness and a delicate tannin grip. The finish is clear, dry and even stimulating. (SR)" (02/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "Subtle strawberry and red-apple notes creat...

91 points Vinous: "Luminous straw. Delicate spicy nuances and sweet apple and pear aromas on the inviting nose. Then flavors similar to the aromas, and above-average acidity for a wine made with so much Auxerrois (this is a blend of 80% Auxerrois and 20% Pinot Blanc). Unlike Trimbach’s 2017 Sylvaner, this is made for the most part with bought grapes (though Pierre Trimbach told me he would like to limit the bought grapes to 50% of the total). No matter – it’s an outstanding Auxerrois wine. (ID)" (01/2019) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Faint notes of gree...

2018 Julien Schaal "Granite" Sommerberg Grand Cru Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!

2017 Pierre Sparr Riesling Grande Reserve Alsace
Top Pick!
Wine Enthusiast: "An aromatic hint of lime on the nose of this wine promises freshness. The palate, however, focuses on mellow notes of fresh red apple. The body is slender, refreshing and has a juicy, dry finish. (AK)" (08/2019)
Price: $16.99

94 points James Suckling: "A masterpiece of delicacy! A complex and floral nose with just a hint of grapefruit zest. Concentrated but super elegant and very clean, this is a wine that demands and commands your full attention. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes." (05/2018) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A tiny touch of spritz helps disperse the wonderfully alluring and perfumed elderflower notes even more. They are coupled with citrus and woodruff for freshness. The dry palate lets these fresh aromatics speak, unburdened by sweetness, lea...

93 points James Suckling: "This is very beautiful with lime, stone and green-melon character. Medium-to full-bodied and creamy with a flavorful finish. Mineral and flinty. From organically grown grapes. Drink now." (07/2019)
Price: $29.99

The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s. Nine successive generations have labored to maintain and expand their wine estate. In more recent news, young Pierre Sparr, aged 20, assumed responsibilities for the winery in the early twentieth century. With a forward-thinking motto of “invest, progress, and maintain,” Pierre became a pioneer in estate bottling in Alsace. He maintained a sense of determination through World War II, and rebuilt his family’s beautiful do...

92 points James Suckling: "Generous citrus, lychee and jasmine on the nose. Some delicacy. A remarkably crisp and dry gewurztraminer that has a refreshing finish, making it an unusually good food wine for this grape. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. " (05/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the Herrenwweg area, the intensely citrus colored 2016 Gewurztraminer Turckheim is from vines averaging 47 years old and opens with a very precise and slightly smoky bouquet with lovely spicy Gewurtz notes. Full-bodied yet clean...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A touch of smoke precedes ripe notions of Amalfi lemon peel on the nose of this wine. The palate then conveys a sinuous, almost oily elixir-like concentrate of peach, plum and citrus. Compact, intense and fresh, this wine has an energy all of its own. The finish is dry and intense with fruit. Drink 2035–2045." (05/2020) 92 points James Suckling: "This is exotic and satisfying with sliced apple and white-peach aromas and flavors. Medium body. Pretty finish. Tangy. Slate minerals. Drink now." (07/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Gewurztraminer Réserve is beautifully clear and defined on the nose, displaying an intense tropical fruit bouquet (passion fruit). Creamy and intense on the palate, this is a well-structured, medium-sweet Gewurtz with remarkable finesse and very fine tannins. Tasted October 2018. (SR)" (10/2018) K&L Notes: From importer Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant: "The small family domaine in France that works traditionally using techniques and savoir faire passed down across multiple generations is under serious threa...

91 points James Suckling: " Bright and supple at the same time. This Gewurztraminer is light years removed from the sweet showgirl wines that dominate the market. The lychee and Turkish-delight character of the grape only shows at the finish." (05/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Bright straw-gold. Delicate but enticing aromas of pineapple, marzipan, sweet spices and grapefruit nectar, plus a touch of smoky grilled nuts that complements rather than overwhelms the wine. Suave and complex, this showcases lovely balance and a captivating sweet-sour quality on th...

92 points James Suckling: "Dried daffodils, poached pears and green apples with just a touch of white pepper. There’s some real density for a white at this price point, and this is bright and citrusy at the same time. Medium-bodied and quite textured on the finish. Drink now." (07/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A hint of spring blossom precedes clean citrus notes on the nose of this refreshing wine. The palate is light but concentrated, fruity but dry and caressed by lemon brightness. The finish is dry and mouthwatering. (AK)" (08/2019) 90 points ...

Wine Enthusiast: "There is something candied, almost confected about the pretty Mirabelle fruit on the nose. The palate is fresh with a slightly bitter edge of tartness. This might benefit from a little more bottle age to integrate. (AK) " (11/2018) K&L Notes: A blend of 80% Pinot Blanc and 20% Riesling. Full of tiny bubbles and lemony freshness. An elegant sparkler for less than $20!

Wine Spectator: "Light-bodied and tangy, this dry Muscat shows notes of orange blossom and orange granita, with hints of lemongrass and spice. (Web-2014) (AN)"
Price: $25.99

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Orange blossom, Mandarin and jasmine create a beguiling perfume on the nose of this wine. The palate immediately convinces, with lemon zestiness that counters and accompanies the aromatic riches. Orange zest, more summer blossom and even saltiness take turns to dazzle in this aromatic marvel of a wine. A creamy element accentuates and unites the freshness of the aromatic strands. Drink 2020–2035. " (11/2019) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From heavy Jurassic limestone soils, the sample of the 2017 Alsace Grand ...

95 points James Suckling: "This has a lot of smoke and spice, even a hint of gunpowder. More importantly, this has great balance although it is much less sweet than most. A rare savory element for the grape. Then there's the complex texture in the mouth that's beautifully interwoven with the acidity. Drink any time between now and 2035. Made from biodynamic grapes, Ecocert certified." (07/2017) 95 points Vinous: "Luminous golden-tinged yellow. Exotic, rich, in-your-face aromas of mandarin orange, grapefruit, rose, sweet spices and honey. Generous and r...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dramatically different from its 2005 counterpart, the 2004 Gewurztraminer Cuvee Laurence is scented with celery seed, citrus rind, rose petals, and narcissus. Lacking the richness of the 2005, it partly makes up for this in sheer juiciness of fruit, and elegant length, remarkably refreshing for its grape of origin not to mention for a wine of considerable sweetness. (DS)" (02/2008)
Price: $74.99

93 points James Suckling: "A complex and maturing Gewurztraminer with a lot of subtle candied fruit and a hint of spices. This almost-dry wine has fascinating textural complexity and clean mineral acidity, allowing the wine to carry a tiny hint of bitterness at the long dry finish." (05/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Selected and harvested at the peak of the grapes's ripeness the 2012 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs Ribeaupierre is very clear and intensely aromatic on the fresh and nobly perfumed nose where lime and orange oil flavo...

Albert Boxler is a domaine in France producing wine from under the Alsace, Crémant d'Alsace, and Alsace Grand Cru AOCs. The estate's vineyard holdings, located in the Haut-Rhin around the village of Niedermotschwihr, have been in the Boxler family since 1673, but it was not until 1946 that Albert Boxler produced, bottled, and labeled wines under the family name. The domaine is currently operated by Jean Boxler, Albert's grandson.

André Ostertag marches to the beat of his own drum, but the wines he crafts carry that rhythm in a most beguiling way. He is not afraid to take risks, but he knows exactly what he's aiming for in the cellar. Ostertag is not shy about oak usage, for which he exclusively sources locally from the Vosges Mountains. His wines are some of the most versatile in Alsace, given that he ferments almost everything completely dry. The Riesling "Les Jardins" comes from a 2.5-ha plot of 30+-year-old vines on a mix of the four different soil types.

2017 Albert Boxler Riesling Alsace
Back In Stock!
91 points Vinous: "Luminous green-tinged straw-yellow. The very mineral nose also offers notes of white flowers, ginger and fennel (the latter typical of the Dudenstein site). The calcaire soils shows off well in the mouth, juicy acidity carrying the orchard fruit and lime flavors on the long saline back end. One of the best entry-level Rieslings from Boxler in recent memory (it is released in Europe as a Riesling Reserve), perhaps because it is made with grapes from many different vineyards that would normally have gone into making other wines (in 2017,...

94 points James Suckling: "For a seven-year-old dry white, this has great vitality. The more air it gets, the more candied-citrus, pear and dried-herb aromas emerge. Although the wine's frame is on the sleek side, there's serious concentration. The finish is very long with a cascade of herbal and mineral notes. Drink or hold." (05/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Trimbach’s 2011 Riesling Cuvee Frederic Emile leads with a fascinating nose mingling quinine and smoky black tea with the more usual lime, white peach and crushed chalk. Silken-...

95 points James Suckling: " A dense and tight white with dried pineapple and apple aromas and flavors, as well as hints of brittle and toffee. Full body. Tight and focused. Long and flavorful. Drink or hold." (07/2019) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Zesty blood-orange aromas have both a floral and a smoky touch. The concentrated palate fills the mouth with peachy, ripe roundness while zestiness pervades and brightens. Blood-orange aromatics keep countering and contouring the gentle sweetness of the midpalate and provide bite until the finish. The wine is ...
