Tritan Burgundy Glass by Schott Zwiesel "Forté" (8465/140)

For generations, traditional crystal glasses were made with lead to fortify them. Schott Zwiesel replaces the lead with titanium and zirconium, creating a crystal glass that is incredibly durable and brilliant. The glasses are then reinforced at the rim and at both ends of the stem, where breakage most frequently occurs. Scratch resistant, even in the dishwasher. The Forte series Burgundy glasses are 8 3/4" tall and hold 21.1 ounces. These glasses ship in cases of six only; price is per stem.

94-95 points Raymond Chan: "Full, even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The bouquet is softly full and deeply packed with concentrated aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruit with notes of dark plums interwoven with a layer of complexing dark and dried herbs with a lifted whole bunch stalk perfume element, some earth and mushroom and a suggestion of game. Full bodied yet elegant, the palate delivers crushed raspberry, ripe Marasca cherry, clove and licorice framed in tightly-knit, noble tannins. Fresh acidity lends balance. It’s already remarkable but will be even better with more bottle age once the tannins unwind a bit. Drink 2022-2042. 1986 Joel Taluau Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Vieilles Vignes

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and this one is really coming into its own.

2017 Domaine Tabordet "Le Champs des Vignes" Pouilly Fumé

Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and also added 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937, it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of Fr ...Read More »

(08/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Black cherries and black olives mark the nose of the 2015 The Dead Arm Shiraz, d'Arenberg's flagship bottling. Deeply colored; this is at once full-bodied and elegant, not a common marriage with young red wines with decades in front of them. The flavors are all black: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, earth and licorice. The old vines have also provided ripe tannins, the whole theme resonated with oak a la Grange." Cedar, sage, red currant and turned earth provide an understated savory personality. The unusual Domaine Le Parre is the first producer in Tenarèze to be uncovered by the crew at L'Encantada. This is a beautiful little estate situated on a plateau, which boasts boulbène soils and was planted to mostly Baco with a small percentage of Ugni Blanc. The domaine stopped cultivating vines in 1995 and was famous for having a giant barrel fashioned from an old train car. Ariston Aspasie Brut Rosé Champagne

Our best deal in pink bubbles! Fans of Billecart-Salmon take note: this is an elegant, dry style that is made entirely from estate-grown fruit in Brouillet. This Champagne is a blend of half and half Pinot Noir and Meunier. The color comes from 12% Meunier that is vinified red, from an old-vine plot that gets quite ripe. (RP)" (04/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "With bright red fruits and crisp acidity, this wine sums up the fruitiness of this vintage. A dry edge balances the red-currant fruit and acidity. Attractive now, it will be better from 2018. (RV)" (02/2018)

2016 Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2016 Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir

91 points Vinous: "The 2016 Pinot Noir from Bishop’s Peak, Brian Talley’s entry-level range, delivers the goods for a great price. From a superb vintage, it’s balanced and energetic, deftly playing ripeness off of finesse and showing pure red fruit and floral character, seamless texture and spicy persistence. (JR)" (12/2018) Connoisseurs Guide: "An all-around lighter, slightly quiescent look at Pinot that begins with a fairly fragrant nose of fresh cherries, flowers and a dusting of dried herbs, this mid-sized offering is pleasantly rounded in feel and ...Read More »

2006 Isle of Jura 12 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) Top Pick!
2006 Isle of Jura 12 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

The Isle of Jura is one of those incredible malts that we almost never see in the wild. Partly that's because they just don't make that much whisky. But it does seem that the owners, Whyte & Mackay, don't let go of the stuff very often. Isle of Jura has its following, but the little distillery on the sparsely populated island to the north of Islay isn't a household name by any means. The island's 200 inhabitants are vastly outnumbered by a massive population of red deer, who keep the islands vegetation from growing beyond the lowest grasses. The infertil ...Read More »

Baron-Fuente "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne (375ml)

90 points John Gilman: "Baron-Fuenté’s non-vintage Brut bottling is composed of a blend of sixty percent Pinot Meunier, thirty percent Chardonnay and ten percent Pinot Noir, with all the vins clairs all fermented in stainless steel. It is a full malo wine and is aged three years sur latte, being finished with a dosage of nine grams per liter. I am not sure if this is the same release I reported on last year or a new cuvée, but the wine is showing very well. The bouquet offers up a fine constellation of white peach, apple, lovely Meunier floral tones, a t ...Read More »

2017 Le Coeur de la Reine Sauvignon Blanc Touraine

A partnership between Rodolphe and Ludivine Marteau, the fourth generation to make wine from their family's estate. Of their 29 acres, 20 are devoted to Sauvignon Blanc. With vines averaging 20 years and very detail-oriented farming, they harvest the best quality fruit possible. Tasting notes from the importer: "The nose offers an intense 'fruit basket' dominated by citrus scents with a note of blackcurrant bud. In the mouth, all is suppleness and elegance. The final spicy note emphasizes the freshness and the generous length of this Touraine Sauvignon." ...Read More »

Chante Cigale means singing cicada (a type of grasshopper/cricket), and the Cicada red is their early-drinking, everyday Grenache-Carignan blend. The property has been in the family since the 19th century and is currently run by Alexandre Favier, who assumed the reins at the ripe old age of 20. The domaine is planted to 40 hectares of red varietals and 5 hectares of white varietals spread across 45 different parcels throughout the appellation.

2016 Domaine du Petit Clocher Anjou Rouge

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Anjou Villages appellation is warm enough to ripen both versions of Cabernet, Franc and Sauvignon. This rich while balanced wine is good proof of that with its ripe black fruits and acidity. It wouldn't be Loire without the smoky, lightly stalky backdrop that will allow the wine to age. (RV)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: From the domaine: "Our domaine is the work of four successive generations at Cléré Sur Layon. Whilst understanding how to evolve and keep up to date, the estate has grown from 5 to 80 hectares over 50 years. We ...Read More »
