2016 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah Top Pick!
2016 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One hundred percent Petite Sirah from vines planted in 1968, the 2016 Petite Sirah Palisade Vineyard is very deep purple-black in color with very pretty notes of lilacs, black and red cherries, mulberries and sandalwood with hints of menthol and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, refreshing and elegant, it has a gorgeous texture of firm, fine-grained tannins and tons of perfumed black fruit layers, finishing long and minerally. (LPB)" (06/2018) 92-95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard is one of ...Read More »

2014 Le P'tit Paysan Monterey County Petite Sirah (Previously $18)

Wine Enthusiast: "Dried herbs, elderberries, peppercorns and a strong streak of gamy meat show on the nose of this bottling, which is less dense and more nuanced in style than many other Petite Sirahs. The gamy element extends to the palate, giving complexity to the black fruits and sticky tannins. (MK)" (06/2018)

2016 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah New!
2016 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is the most perfumed and elegant of Turley's Petite Syrahs (they don't spell it "Sirah") this year, unfurling in the glass with a pure and fragrant bouquet of cassis, dark plums, rose petals and pencil lead. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep core of vibrant, juicy fruit, satiny but abundant tannins and a long finish. It's an exceptional wine from a singular vineyard. (WK)" (09/2018) 93-96 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Syrah H ...Read More »

2014 Sean Thackrey "Sirius-Eaglepoint Ranch" Mendocino County Petite Sirah

Sean Thackrey is a Marin County based winemaker who has been doing it his way and to great success since 1980. Praise from Robert Parker: "One of California's most iconic and mystical winemakers, Sean Thackrey has logged in 20 or more vintages of consistently stunning wines that perhaps say it all with the simple quote on his label: -Sean A. Thackrey, Vintner, Bolinas, California."

2016 Carlisle Sonoma County Petite Sirah New!
2016 Carlisle Sonoma County Petite Sirah

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The base 2016 Petite Sirah (there's 8% Syrah in the blend) is a serious mouthful of a wine. Black fruits, chocolate, scorched earth and charcoal notes all give way to a big, rich, opulent effort that has plenty of building tannin. I suspect it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15 years." (06/2018) 90-93 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Sirah (Sonoma County) is one of the "Don't Miss" wines in this brilliant range from Carlisle. Inky, deep and pliant, the 2016 is full of Petite character, with notable fru ...Read More »

2016 Ridge Vineyards "Lytton Estate" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah

94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Syrah Lytton Springs is another fabulous wine in this range. Dense and powerful, the 2016 is endowed with striking depth and tons of character. The Petite tannins are nicely tamed in a wine that offers superb quality and pedigree. Crème de cassis, graphite, lavender and mint are front and center. The 2016 remains quite primary though, so readers need to be patient. (AG) 94+" (08/2018) Wine Spectator: "The 2016 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate reveals aromas of crushed currants, currant leaf and raspberries, framed by new oa ...Read More »

2015 Aaron Wines Paso Robles Petite Sirah

93 points Vinous: "Bright purple. Smoke-tinged cherry and blueberry compote aromas show excellent clarity, and a mocha element sneaks in as the wine stretches out. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, offering densely packed yet lively red and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors and a hint of five-spice powder. Shows impressive energy on the broad, chewy finish, which is firmed by building tannins and sharpened by a late jolt of juicy acidity. (JR)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: On our recent Central Coast trip, we met many producers and tasted wines of various st ...Read More »

2010 Eighty Four Napa Valley Petite Sirah

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is dark, bold and highly aromatic, yet retains a sense of restraint and grace. Sandalwood, white pepper, dried lavender and rosemary give in to ripe, juicy huckleberry and blueberry flavors. The tannins are both mouthfilling and plush. The finish just goes on and on. Drink now through 2030. (MW)" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is big boisterous wine from Elias Fernandez and Doug Shafer that has been given some nice time in bottle after four years in new French oak. It's a viscous, black-as-night kind of exper ...Read More »

2012 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah

97 points Vinous: "Turley's 2012 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge dazzles from the very first taste. One of the few wines in this range that is going to need time in bottle, the Rattlesnake boasts tremendous depth in its inky fruit, game, graphite and mint. Firm tannins frame the broad, expansive finish in a dramatic Petite full of Howell Mountain personality. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a superb Petite loaded with character and personality. 1993 Turley "Aida Vineyards" Petite Syrah

95 points Robert Parker: "Petite Sirah lovers will go ballistic when they taste the two 1993 offerings from Turley Cellars. The black/purple-colored 1993 Petite Syrah Aida Vineyard (from a vineyard planted in 1911) is massively rich, with wonderfully integrated, sweet, ripe tannin, a huge, black fruit, licorice, earth, and peppery-scented nose, exceptional length, and moderately high, sweet tannin. It is an exceptional Petite Sirah that should last for 20-30+ years. These are extraordinary wines!" (06/95) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and immensely co ...Read More »

2007 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The monster 2007 Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard is a massively concentrated, huge, tannic wine that needs a good 7-8 years of cellaring and should keep 20 years. It will be another legend for Petite Sirah, but unless you are a patient connoisseur, few people will ever get to see it at its best. (RP) 95+" (12/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Extremely dense, with a chunky mouthful of black cherry, blackberry and dried fig flavors that are accented with toasted nut, pepper and dark chocolate details. 1993 La Jota Howell Mountain Petite Sirah

91 points Robert Parker: "Proprietors Bill and Joan Smith are two of the nicest, most modest vineyard/winery owners I have ever met. They have turned La Jota into one of the great names in California winedom. Along with Randy Dunn, Peter Michael, and Beringer, they are getting more out of Howell Mountain fruit than any other California producer. The Smiths modestly give considerable credit to Helen Turley, who consulted at La Jota in 1992 and 1993, for opening their eyes to the possibilities of producing great red wines from Howell Mountain without the a ...Read More »

2009 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It was difficult to chose a favorite although the 2009 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge, Hayne Vineyard and Library Vineyard are the three greatest in terms of concentration, depth and potential complexity. As I have said so many times, Petite Sirah is by far the most underrated varietal in California, so it is reassuring to see how many producers continue to make remarkable wines with around 13-14% alcohol as well as 20-40+ years of aging potential. 1997 Turley "Aida" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

90-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Petite Syrah Aida Vineyard (from 80-year old vines) assaults the palate with such an overload of fruit, tannin, and extract that the taster's first impression is that this is something more than table wine. It is a massive, almost uncivilized, wildly out of control Petite Syrah that will require 10-15 years of cellaring, and last for 30 or more. I have been conservative in my judgment because the tannin nearly melted the fillings in my teeth, but this is an amazing, astonishing wine that will be fasci ...Read More »

2005 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although pinched with screeching tannins, the backward, unevolved 2005 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge will repay those who have the foresight to lay it away for 10-15 years. It is loaded with potential, but is nearly impenetrable at present. (RP) 91-93+" (12/2006) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby color. Knockout nose combines black fruits, smoke, licorice, pepper and a strong rocky character. Quite suave on entry, then thick but vibrant in the middle, with powerful, well- in ...Read More »

2001 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A new offering, the 2001 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard (14% alcohol) possesses an evolved nose of sweet blackberry liqueur intermixed with spice and sweet oak. Surprisingly, the palate is closed, and the finish hard and tannic. While this effort does not appear to have the potential of its siblings, there is still a lot to it. (RP)" (08/2003) Wine Spectator: "Dense, tight and firmly tannic, with a firm yet narrow band of wild berry, spice, mineral and fresh earth, it turns ruggedly tannic on the chalky finish. 2014 Turley "Pesenti Vineyard" Paso Robles Petite Syrah

92-95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Pesenti Vineyard tastes like it was drawn from tank just after fermentation. It is every bit that intense and primary. The Pesenti is the most raw and unformed wine in this extensive range. At the same time, it is incredibly compelling. (AG)" (10/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Pesenti Vineyard (from those white limestone soils) is quite an elixir if you love this grape. Super-blue/black in color, it has hints of crushed rock, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqu ...Read More »

2014 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah

97 points Vinous: "A huge, explosive wine, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is also remarkably nuanced and vivid for such a big wine. Graphite, charcoal, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice wrap around a core of dark fruit. The tannins are huge and searing, so readers have to be prepared to be patient. Even so, the pedigree of this site perched high atop Howell Mountain comes through loud and clear. What a gorgeous wine this is. In a word: magnificent! 2013 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard (14.4% alcohol) exhibits a deep purple color, sweet cassis, blueberry and blackberry fruit, full body, slightly softer tannins, and more approachability than the Pesenti or Turley Estate. This is the most precocious of the Petite Syrahs but still needs 7-8 years of bottle age. It should drink well for 30-50 years.
