2014 Domaine Pichat "Les Grandes Places" Côte-Rôtie (Previously $80)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky-colored 2014 Côte Rôtie les Grandes Places is a rocking success in the vintage. Giving up tons of black fruits, scorched earth, wood smoke and crushed rock aromas and flavors, this beauty is medium-bodied, fresh and focused on the palate, with building fine tannin and juicy acidity. It will have 10-15 years of longevity. (JD)" (12/2016)

2016 Maryline et Christophe Billon Syrah "Correndies" Collines Rhodaniennes

One of our great new finds this year came from our visit to Christophe Billon in Côte-Rotie. Residing in the lieu-dit of Côte Rozier, Billon has flown under the radar for far too long. While working at Guigal, Christophe and his wife Maryline began this side project in 1991. He left Guigal in 2008 to dedicate his full time to their estate vineyards. Christophe now makes three Côte-Roties along with an entry-level Syrah, Viognier and a beautiful Condrieu. The "Correndies" is from his parcel just outside the appellation. It offers Cote-Rotie quality for ...Read More »

2003 Tardieu-Laurent Côte-Rôtie

2015 Christophe Billon "La Brocarde" Côte-Rotie

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In the same qualitative ballpark as the Côte Rozier, yet possessing more elegance, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Brocadre (95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, mostly destemmed and aged in new barrels) offers lots of raspberry and black raspberry notes, as well as new saddle leather, cassis, toasted spice and dried flowers. Full-bodied, pure, layered and downright silky, it’s a brilliant wine that will have two decades of longevity. This was a sensational lineup of wines from Côte Rôtie-based Christophe Billon. 2015 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Inky colored, the flagship 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is an utterly incredible wine any way you look at it and is a legendary Côte Rôtie in the making. Black raspberry, blackberry jam, toasted spices, dried flowers and cured meat notes give way to a sexy, full-bodied, ripe, and incredibly opulent 2015 that has sweet tannin, no hard edges and a huge finish. The fruit of the vintage, as well as the sweet tannin, allow this to offer pleasure even today, but it’s going to benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age and drink beautifully fo ...Read More »

2015 Guigal Côte-Rotie "Château d'Ampuis" (Pre-Arrival)

96-98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Scheduled to be bottled just after this visit, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Château D'Ampuis reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of smoked black fruits, caramelized blackcurrants, leady herbs, ground pepper, and earth. It's deep, rich, massively concentrated, and a powerhouse of a wine that’s going to need bottle age, but wow, what a wine! The big news at the Guigal estate is the purchase of Domaine de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The family has always wanted an estate in the South, and Nalys is an unr ...Read More »

2015 Delas Freres "Seigneurs de Maugiron" Côte-Rôtie

95 points Decanter: "Youthful with elegant restraint and bags of potential. Sweet spice and dark fruits contrast with savoury tapenade notes and a piercing salinity. Classic and stylish." (06/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Seigneur De Maugiron is a little gem of a wine, and I suspect the finest vintage I’ve tasted for the cuvée. Rounded, full-bodied, voluptuous, and impeccably balanced, it offers lots of spice, cured meats and black fruits, sweet tannin, and a great mid-palate. It has considerable elegance and purity, and is more sex ...Read More »

2016 Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine "Domaine des Pierrelles" Côte-Rôtie

92-94 points Vinous: "Dark purple. Powerful, mineral- and smoke-accented blueberry, cola and olive aromas pick up licorice and incense accents with air. Appealingly sweet, palate-staining black and blue fruit and violet pastille flavors deepen steadily on the back half while retaining energy and focus. Smoothly balances richness and finesse, while a vibrant mineral quality adds cut to the impressively long, sweet finish. 2005 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rotie

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More masculine, backwards and concentrated, the 2005 Côte-Rotie Chäteau d’Ampuis is a full-bodied, structured effort that’s just barely starting to show some secondary nuances. Giving up notions of violet, asphalt, graphite, crushed rock, bacon fat and dried rose petal, it has impeccable balance, notable concentration and a big finish. It should hit prime time in another 2 to 3 years, and evolve gracefully through 2025. (JD) 96+" (08/2014) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Consistent with prior reviews of this wine, the ...Read More »

1998 Tardieu-Laurent Côte-Rôtie

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An amazing effort is the 1998 Cote Rotie, which comes from three hillside vineyards - La Landonne, Les Grandes Places, and Cote Rozier. The wine's dark purple color is followed by an explosive, exotic bouquet of bacon fat, cherry liqueur, black olives, roasted meats, and toasty wood. This expressive, voluptuously-textured, full-bodied, powerful, concentrated Cote Rotie reveals some tannin in the finish. Impressively concentrated but lively as well, offering alluringly sweet black raspberry, boysenberry spicecake and violet flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Fermented with no destemming and aged mostly in older barrels, it’s a rock star Côte-Rôtie and offers loads of blackberry fruits, spice, tapenade, cured meats, and pepper. With medium to full body, a deep, layered mid-palate, present tannins, and a huge finish, it needs short-term cellaring but is an undeniably gorgeous Syrah that will have two decades of longevity." Flamboyant, sexy, and pure, the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée knocks it out of the park with its crazy good bouquet of black raspberries, flowers, olives, bacon fat, and gamey, meaty nuances. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has more depth and richness than most in this classic, charming vintage. Medium-bodied, about as graceful and elegant as they come, with sweet tannins and a great finish, it’s a no-brainer purchase to drink over the coming 10-15 years. 1989 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune - Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune - Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie (95JG). John Gilman: "The 1989 Côte-Rôtie from Marius Gentaz is a brilliant wine that fully synthesizes the quality of a top-notch vintage with the magical, classic touch of a maestro. The beautiful, black fruity nose wafts from the glass in a complex aromatic constellation of black raspberries, black cherries, stony soil tones, woodsmoke, a touch of cardamom, espresso, still a bit of youthful, medicinal syrah tones, lavender and nutskins. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, young and stunning, with a lovely core of pure fruit, outstanding soil inflection, firm, well-measured tannins and brilliant length and grip on the focused and very refined, albeit, still chewy finish. This is early days still for this great vintage chez Gentaz, and I would be strongly inclined to keep it tucked away for at least another five or six years (minimum) before starting to drink it in earnest. 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline
Bid on this bottle of 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline (100RP, 97VN, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the all-time great La Moulines, this still youthful and unevolved wine does not have the tannic ferocity of the 1988, or the sheer force and intensity of the 1978, 1976, and 1969, but it represents the epitome of this single-vineyard wine. Everything fits perfectly in this full-bodied, black/purple-colored wine that reveals no garnet or amber at the edge of its color. The nose offers up a formidable array of overripe black raspberries and cherries intertwined with scents of cedar, chocolate, olives, and toast. Extremely full-bodied, with an unctuosity and opulence that must be tasted to be believed, this velvety-textured wine's finish lasts for over a minute. It is one of the most concentrated but profoundly endowed and well-balanced wines I have ever tasted. Like so many of the wines Guigal has produced from this vineyard, no matter how hard one tries to articul

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune" Côte-Rôtie (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 Cote Rotie is a spectacularly rich, concentrated wine with superb depth and intensity. Still very backward, this murky, dark ruby-colored wine displays a huge nose of cassis, minerals, licorice, earth, and flowers. In the mouth there is astonishing concentration, terrific flavor delineation, medium to full body, plenty of tannin, and a long, spicy, tightly knit finish. This is a dazzling Cote Rotie for ringing in the next century. (RP)" (01/1997)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Rene Rostaing "Cote Blonde" Cote Rotie (95RP, 95ST, 95VN, 95WS). The long, dark finish lets an iron hint flitter through as this expands steadily, revealing lots of charcoal-tinged grip that blossoms and blossoms, turning this into an intense, dark, brooding wine. 1982 Guigal "La Landonne" Côte Rôtie
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Guigal "La Landonne" Côte Rôtie (95JD, 95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For such a precocious vintage, the 1982 La Landonne remains a backward, beefy, smoky, chewy mouthful of tannic wine. It has thrown a huge amount of sediment, and the bottle is completely stained, as if it were a 15-year-old vintage port. The wine reveals an olive, earthy, licorice, mineral, smoked-meat nose, fabulous depth, and a huge, formidably endowed personality. It is a monstrous, super concentrated wine that should reach its apogee by the turn of the century. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025." (01/1997)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The greatest Côte-Rôtie I've tasted from this estate, the 1991 Côte-Rôtie is utterly profound and flirts with perfection. Compared to the 2001 by Jean-Paul (I think it's a fair click better), it is as seamless, layered and complex as they come, with phenomenal notes of black raspberries, cassis, olive tapenade, incense and bacon fat all soaring from the glass. Bid on this bottle of 1991 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie (99RP, 98JS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1991 La Turque behaves as if it wants to be the northern Rhone's answer to Richebourg and Musigny. However, with the exception of Domaine Leroy, you cannot find a Richebourg or Musigny with the richness and complexity possessed by this awesome wine. The saturated dark purple color is followed by a wine that is surprisingly lighter in the mouth than its great flavor intensity and rich extraction would suggest. It is a winemaking tour de force in that Guigal has been able to cram phenomenal levels of fruit, complexity, and richness into this velvety-textured wine without causing it to taste heavy. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage for this wine was especially impressive in view of the fact that the vineyard was so young. The 1985 La Turque's color remains a dark purple, with no signs of amber or lightening. The nose explodes from the glass, revealing scents of jammy black fruits, licorice, lead pencil, and smoke. Sweet, thick, highly concentrated flavors contain enough acidity and soft wood tannin to give the wine a well-focused feel. This prodigiously endowed, rich wine should continue to evolve.
