2013 Château Peyros Madiran Vieilles Vignes (Previously $17)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vines up to 50-years-old are the basis of this rich and tannic wine. While it does have some age, it still has a way to go. Big bold tannins show strongly along with ripe black-plum skins. The wood aging has given this wine a smooth elegant edge that contrasts with the still young fruitiness. Drink from 2021. (RV)" (07/2017) K&L Notes: Chateau Peyros is a 17th century estate situated in the southern part of Madiran. In 1999, Jean Jacques Lesgourgues bought the estate and began the process of modernizing and revitalizing this ...Read More »

2014 Château Bouscassé Madiran Top Pick!
2014 Château Bouscassé Madiran

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the home estate of the Brumont family, certainly the leaders in Madiran, this wine is dominated by Tannat, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend produces rich tannins and broadens the palate to bring in black-currant fruits, a crunchy, juicy texture as well as longevity. This wine will age and age more, but should be ready to drink from 2023. *Editor's Choice* (RV)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Alain Brumont is one of the stars of Madiran. In 1979 he inherited his father's estate, Chateau Bouscasse. ...Read More »

2010 Château Montus Madiran

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Always a powerful wine, this vintage exudes richness and density. There is a strongly tarry character as well as firm black plum fruits and a concentrated texture. This immense wine will need serious aging. Drink from 2010 and until 2030. (RV)" (10/2017) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A concentrated, elegant red, with layers of dried cherry, slate and smoke, showing a good amount of spice. A solid beam of acidity keeps this fresh, delivering a finish of hoisin sauce, chocolate and dried floral flavors. Drink now through 2018. (K ...Read More »

2017 Domaine de Millet Colombard-Ugni Blanc Côtes de Gascogne Blanc

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost an Armagnac producer. They ...Read More »

2016 Chateau Saint Louis "Naturellement" Fronton

From the winery: "Located between Toulouse and Montauban, the Chateau Saint Louis is part of the AOC Fronton wine area. The Chateau Saint Louis was bought in 1991 by Marie-Cécile and Ali Mahmoudi. Since then, the Chateau has been deeply transformed and its wines have been greatly rewarded every year. The vines grow on the Tarn (river) terraces. The soil composition is typical from the Fronton region: sandy boulbene, gravely, clayey, and lightly acid. The Pinot Saint Georges, also called Négrette, is the varietal of every Fronton wine, and this is also th ...Read More »

2014 Château Haut-Monplaisir "Prestige" Cahors

Raymond Ragnaud Pineau des Charentes

One of the most overlooked spirits in the world is France's light and slightly-sweet aperitif - Pineau des Charantes. Made from sweetened grape must and a bit of young Cognac, the Raymond Ragnaud is perhaps the best expression of the style we carry. Imported directly for K&L by Charles Neal, the Ragnaud is best served slightly chilled either before a meal or after. A great substitute for sherry or port when the months turn warmer and you want something more refreshing.
