2017 Domaine de Millet Colombard-Ugni Blanc Côtes de Gascogne Blanc Top Pick!
2017 Domaine de Millet Colombard-Ugni Blanc Côtes de Gascogne Blanc

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost an Armagnac producer. They ...Read More »

2014 Château Bouscassé Madiran

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the home estate of the Brumont family, certainly the leaders in Madiran, this wine is dominated by Tannat, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend produces rich tannins and broadens the palate to bring in black-currant fruits, a crunchy, juicy texture as well as longevity. This wine will age and age more, but should be ready to drink from 2023. *Editor's Choice and #13 on Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of 2018* (RV)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Alain Brumont is one of the stars of Madiran. In 1979 he ...Read More »

Raymond Ragnaud Pineau des Charentes

One of the most overlooked spirits in the world is France's light and slightly-sweet aperitif - Pineau des Charantes. Made from sweetened grape must and a bit of young Cognac, the Raymond Ragnaud is perhaps the best expression of the style we carry. Imported directly for K&L by Charles Neal, the Ragnaud is best served slightly chilled either before a meal or after. A great substitute for sherry or port when the months turn warmer and you want something more refreshing.

2016 Chateau Saint Louis "Naturellement" Fronton

From the winery: "Located between Toulouse and Montauban, the Chateau Saint Louis is part of the AOC Fronton wine area. The Chateau Saint Louis was bought in 1991 by Marie-Cécile and Ali Mahmoudi. Since then, the Chateau has been deeply transformed and its wines have been greatly rewarded every year. The vines grow on the Tarn (river) terraces. The soil composition is typical from the Fronton region: sandy boulbene, gravely, clayey, and lightly acid. The Pinot Saint Georges, also called Négrette, is the varietal of every Fronton wine, and this is also th ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Ilarria Irouleguy Rouge

Irouleguy is in the Basque country of southwest France, and Domaine Ilarria, run by Peio Espil, is one of just a few independent producers there. After working at wineries in Sauternes and Jurançon, Espil came home and worked alongside his father before eventually taking over the family estate. The red is a blend of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

1995 Château La Gravière Tirecul "Cuvée Madame" Monbazillac (500ml) (wrinkled/nicked labels)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As good (better??) than the 2001, the 1995 Monbazillac Cuvee Madame is straight up extraordinary juice that certainly one of the finest dessert wines I’ve ever tasted. A blend of 60% Muscadelle, 40% Sémillon that spent just under three years in new French oak, it offers a heavenly bouquet of orange marmalade, caramelized peach, brioche and honeycomb, a huge, full-bodied, unctuous profile, no weight and a finish that just won’t quiet. If you love sweet wines, I promise, it doesn’t get better. It’s drinking sensationally today, yet ...Read More »

2014 Jean-Claude Berrouet Herri Mina Irouléguy Rouge
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2014 Jean-Claude Berrouet Herri Mina Irouléguy Rouge. From the hands that crafted three decades' worth of the world's most expensive wine (Château Pétrus), this esoteric gem from the southwest of France is one of the surefire hits in our inventory. From the importer: "Deep in an area renowned for its independent and strong ancestral culture, the Basque Country is in the southwestern-most part of France, just half an hour from Spain. Here, Irouléguy received its appellation contrôlée in 1970, with about 250 acres of vineyards cultivated by 60 growers.Jean-Claude Berrouet is an Irouléguy native who left home to serve for more than three decades as the winemaker at Château Pétrus. But the Basque region has a powerful pull, and Jean-Claude eventually returned home to his native soil. Appropriately, he named his estate “Herri Mina”; in Basque, herri means “country,” and mina means “homesick”... The vines are planted on the somewhat-steep south-facing slopes of th
