2015 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero Top Pick!
2015 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made with guidance from Peter Sisseck, the 2015 Crianza from Hacienda Monasterio is a blockbuster effort that’s a blend of 75% Tinto Fino, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Merlot, all of which spent 18 months in 30% new French oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by terrific notes of blueberries, violets, graphite, and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, deep, concentrated, and elegant, with a traditional style and building tannin, it’s incredible that they produce upward of 30,000 cases of this beauty. It’s no doubt beautif ...Read More »

2016 Lambuena Roble Ribera del Duero

90 points James Suckling: "Rich and ripe with moderate tannins for this appellation, but a nice freshness that stops it from tasting too heavy or broad. A solid finish that reveals the wine’s class." (08/2018) K&L Notes: Located in the town of Roa, which is part of the Burgos district, Lambuena is a producer of D.O. Ribera del Duero wines. Ideally situated in the central growing region of the Ribera del Duero, in an area known for the very high quality of its chalky clay soils and its extreme continental climate, Lambuena makes big, generously fruited, ...Read More »

2014 Pago de los Capellanes Crianza Ribera del Duero

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Crianza has much more moderate ripeness than the 2011, which was the previous vintage I tasted of this wine. In fact, I loved this 2014, that showed very good balance and a nice combination of power and elegance, ripeness and restraint, fruit and oak. It's 100% Tempranillo matured in 300-liter French barriques for one year. The palate was equally balanced, with elegant tannins and good freshness. (LG)" (02/2017) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Plush yet lively, this expressive red delivers bright cherry and ...Read More »

2014 Hermanos Perez Pascuas "La Navilla" Reserva Ribera del Duero

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Viña Pedrosa la Navilla Reserva was already bottled and the wine should be released in late 2017, before I taste again here in some 16 months. The wine has the same source and production process, some 20 months in oak. These are 40- to 45-year-old vines, and they produce very balanced grapes that they tend to harvest early. None of their wines have a pH higher than 3.6. This is extremely perfumed, a little more modern if you like, with perfect integration of the oak with the wine, the nose is tremendousl ...Read More »

2014 Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez "Pesquera" Crianza Tinto Ribera del Duero

90 points Wine Spectator: "Firm and focused, but still fresh, this red delivers cherry and berry flavors accented by vanilla, spice and light herbal notes. Offers good density, but without heaviness. Harmonious. Drink now through 2024. (TM)" (11/2017) K&L Notes: Alejandro Fernandez is rightfully a Spanish icon, having been one of the early pioneers in the Ribera del Duero D.O. He is a champion of the local Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety, and has proven time and time again that his vines around Pesquera del Duero consistently produce rich, power ...Read More »

2013 Hacienda Solano Vinas Viejas Ribera del Duero (Previously $30)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Selección Viñas Viejas is a mixture of Tempranillo grapes from multiple small plots of old vines in the village of La Aguilera, where the family has the vineyards and the winery. There is low alcohol and very good freshness here, despite the fact that it was harvested in mid-October. It matured in oak barrels for one year. 2013 was a challenging vintage, a cool year, but with problems of botrytis during the harvest, so it was necessary to sort and select thoroughly, and they even sold some grapes. The ol ...Read More »

2011 Lambuena Reserva Ribera del Duero

Located in the town of Roa, which is part of the Burgos district, Lambuena is a producer of D.O. Ribera del Duero wines and is one of our newest Spanish direct imports. Ideally situated in the central growing region of the Ribera del Duero, in an area known for the very high quality of its chalky clay soils and its extreme continental climate. Lambuena makes big, generously fruited, yet structured and ultimately classic Ribera del Duero wines (these days, this is very difficult to find in this D.O.). Though the wines consist primarily of Tempranillo ("ti ...Read More »

2006 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2006 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (Pre-Arrival)

100 points James Suckling: "Incredibly floral and beautiful with dark berry, spice, cedar and mint. Chinese plums. Asian spices. Bark. Tea. Full body, dense and so soft and complex. The finish goes on for minutes. Endless and fine. January 2017 release. This reminds me of the gorgeous 1991 or 1964. Drink forever. A wine that you want to spend time with." (01/2018) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tasted the 2006 Único again, and it's clearly the best Único produced in the last few years, to which I don't find much logic, as on paper 2004 and ...Read More »

2015 Altos de Terral Crianza Ribera del Duero

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The grapey and fruit-driven 2015 Crianza shows a lactic and spicy touch, but the oak feels quite nicely integrated. This has a juicy palate with fine tannins and a pleasant finish. (LG)" (08/2018) K&L Notes: Pago de Los Capellanes winemaker, Paco Casas, produces this wine from 2 hectares in La Horra (Burgos), one of the more famous villages for Ribera del Duero. Top quality producers like Pingus and Sastre are both in this area, which has become famous for the quality of its terroirs. Here we have 100% Tinto fino, aged ...Read More »

2014 Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero

93 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with meat, chocolate, dried berry and walnut aromas and flavors. This has a full body and velvety tannins. A little old-school but what you expect in a wine from this producer. Drink now or hold." (07/2017) Wine Spectator: "Savory notes of black olive and licorice wrap around a core of bright cherry fruit in this lively red, which has fresh acidity, with modest tannins anchoring the round texture. 2015 Arzuaga Crianza Ribera del Duero

90 points James Suckling: "This shows aromas of dark plums, bitter chocolate and vanilla. Full and round body with velvety tannins and good balance, but only a medium finish. Drink now or hold." (08/2018) K&L Notes: Located in "the golden mile" portion of Ribera del Duero, adjacent to Vega Sicilia, in the commune of Valladolid, Arzuaga is committed to the production of traditional, barrel-aged, Tempranillo-based wines from this classic D.O. region of Spain. The 2015 is in incredibly solid form, with rich dark fruits, vanilla and dried coconut notes fro ...Read More »

2014 Dominio del Águila "Pícaro" Tinto (Previously $30)

93 points James Suckling: "Delicate and floral with a ripe dark-fruit character and hints of charcoal and vanilla. Full body, elegant yet firm tannins and a fruity finish. Lots of wood but this is stylish. Needs time to soften. Better in 2019." (12/2016) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Pícaro Tinto is Tempranillo with some 5% Albillo and selected from vineyards where the soils have a higher content of clay. This is always produced from the same vineyards since the initial vintage, 2012. 2014 could sometimes feel a little austere and ...Read More »

2014 Dominio del Aguila "Picaro" Clarete Ribera del Duero

This is for fans of the Viña Tondonia Rosado. Similar in spirit, this "clarete" style is a blend of Tempranillo, Albillo, Garnacha, and Bobal. So, given that this is made with white and red grape varieties, it features a long ageing in barrel followed by bottle, and boasts delicious fruit and gently sweet oak spices, this old-fashioned style pink wine is the closest thing we have to Tondonia Rosado. Although it is of course its own wine, with a distinctive personality - unique and well worth trying!

2017 Quinta Miliu Ribera del Duero

Produced from organically grown Tempranillo grown in the high elevation village of La Aguilera - a spot making a splash for the quality of its old vines and resulting wines - this tastes like fresh, tangy plums, with a character that is very drinkable and expressive. From our experience, it's rare that unoaked Tempranillo truly knocks it out of the park, but this one absolutely does.

2015 Bodegas Gormaz Catania Roble Ribera del Duero

Located in the village of San Esteban de Gormaz in the province of Soria (about as far east as you can go in the Ribera del Duero D.O.), Bodegas Gormaz relies on mature, 30+ year-old Tinto Fino vines to provide the base material for their honest, savory and representatively styled wines. This particular bottling sees 6 months ageing in French and American oak, which perfectly frames the delicious, dark fruit. It does not get more Castillian than this!

2015 Finca Torremilanos "Los Cantos" Ribera del Duero

91 points James Suckling: "The full, blackberry fruit is married to an expansive body and generous, moderately dry tannins that make quite a bold statement on the palate. Well balanced finish." (10/2018) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This red is a bit reserved but shows balance and depth, with red plum, loamy earth, mineral and floral flavors mingling over well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Floral and spice notes linger. (TM)" (07/2018) K&L Notes: Produced by the only Demeter certified biodynamic in Ribera del Duero, the Los Cantos consists of o ...Read More »

1994 Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez "Tinto Pesquera Reserva Especial" Ribera del Duero Back In Stock!
1994 Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez "Tinto Pesquera Reserva Especial" Ribera del Duero

96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Incredibly sweet aromas of boysenberry, steak tartare and exotic oak. Creamy, thick and primal, with a sauvage animal note adding to its essence of dark berry complexity. Totally unevolved, especially next to the regular '94 Pesquera, which is starting to express itself. The nearly painful finish features huge but even tannins and powerful thrust, along with finishing notes of smoke and espresso. Wow! This is cheap (and the Tinto Pesquera is even better value) when you consider today's Bordeaux price ...Read More »

2014 Diaz Bayo Crianza Ribera del Duero (Previously $20)

Produced from two vineyards: a 60 year-old clay and 40 year-old clay limestone parcel, this is a classically styled Ribera del Duero produced in the village of Fuentelcesped, just a bit southeast of Arranda de Duero. It was aged for a year in used French oak barrels followed by an additional year in bottle.

2004 Bodegas Hornillos Ballesteros Mibal, Ribera del Duero (Previously 19)

91 points from the Wine Advocate! They say, "The 2004 Mibal was aged for 12 months in previously used French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, the wine’s aromatics need to be coaxed from the glass, a demonstration of this wine’s youth. On the palate the raw materials are there, densely packed and tightly wound. The ripe black fruit flavors are still undeveloped but very promising. All of the components are in harmony needing only 4-6 years in bottle to strut their stuff. It is hard to believe that so little money can buy so much wine. If I were a ...Read More »

2009 Bodegas J A Calvo Casajus "Nic" Ribera del Duero New!
2009 Bodegas J A Calvo Casajus "Nic" Ribera del Duero

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Casajus NIC is the top wine, sourced from a single 1.5 hectare plot that yielded less than 2,500 kilogram per hectare (NIC, by the way, is the abbreviation of Nicolas and Catalina, Jose Alberto’s children.) It is raised in new 500-liter Allier barrels over 18 months. It has a very intense nose of raspberry, fresh strawberry, maraschino and blood orange that effortlessly embraces the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte, succulent tannins, the oak playing a complementary role (in my opinion, the u ...Read More »
