Mas Codina Cava Brut Reserva Penedès

Mas Codina is a 40 hectare estate in Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Brut Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 25 to 40-year-old vines and estate bottled. Though it does not say it on the label, the current disgorgement is based entirely on the 2015 harvest. Vines are planted in calcareous and sandy clay soils which keep the wine minerally and lively. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, and is aged on its lees for a minimum of two years before disgorgement. Produced from 100% estate grown, organically cultivated Xarel-lo, from their oldest plants (40+ years old), this is the taste of well farmed Xarel-lo: salty, with a touch of the ever-present fennel that grows wildly in the zone. The Garriga family, with Toni and Jordi currently at the helm, have been farming this land since the 17th century. Mas Codina Brut Rosé Cava Penedes

Mas Codina is a 40 hectare estate in Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Brut Rosé consists of Pinot Noir grown in their own vineyards in the middle Penedès region. Here the Garriga brothers are quite pleased with the results they see from the Pinot Noir grown in chalky-clay soils. They have been working organically for the past several years and their first harvest doing so with certification was 2017. 2016 Mas Codina Cabernet Sauvignon Penedes

Mas Codina is an estate in the middle Penedes, about an hour's drive from Barcelona. They own about 40 hectares, most of which are planted to Xarel-lo, Macabeu, Parellada, and Pinot Noir, with some Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon as well. 2015 Miquel Pons "Eulalia de Pons" Rosat Brut Nature Cava Penedes

Miquel Pons is a fine producer of cava in the Penedes region, the center of Spain's sparkling wine prouction. A tribute to the grandmother of the owner, Eulalia de Pons is a vintage dated rosé sparkler produced from the indigenous Trepat grape. Tasty red fruits are nicely dry, and with 20 months ageing sur latte, the quality of the bubbles and complexity is impressive for the price.

2015 Autoctón Celler Negre (Previously $20)

A blend of primarily Sumoll (an underrated Penedes grape variety) and Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), this is Albert Jané's (of Acustic in Montsant) Baix Penedes project. The Sumoll brings loads of freshness and bright acidity to this wine, while Tempranillo provides the mid-palate weight and some structure. A very cool new Sumoll blend from one of Spains's current hot beds of wine activity, the Penedes.
