Inverroche Amber Gin (750ml)

Inverroche takes its name from the combination of two words that pay homage to their Scottish ancestry, referencing both their Celtic and Gaelic backgrounds. The Scottish word “Inver” meaning ‘a confluence of water’ and the French word “Roche” meaning ‘rock or stone’. Inverroche Distillery was founded by Lorna Scott and her family and has grown from strength to strength in the local community of Still Bay in the Western Cape of Southern Africa. In just 6 years, the distillery has grown from a small home industry to a flourishing and pioneering craft dist ...Read More »

2016 Joostenberg "Little j" Red Rhône Blend Paarl

The Little J Red is a bistro red blend consisting of 86% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault, and 4% Grenache. This is an unprentious, generous wine made from a selection of vineyards in mainly the AgterPaarl area (part of the Paarl appelation). The predominant soils are Malmesbury Shale. These soils have a surprisingly good moisture retention capability which allows for dry-land farming in this relatively warm and dry area. The vineyards are a combination of traditional bush-vines and trellised blocks.

2017 Hamilton Russell Chardonnay Hemel-en-Aarde Valley

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Chardonnay is classy stuff all the way that's 100% varietal aged mostly in French oak, with small amounts brought up in foudre, ceramic eggs, and stainless steel. Orchard fruits, pineapple, and white flower notes all emerge from the glass. It's medium-bodied, beautifully textured, and seamless on the palate. With beautiful purity, vibrant, integrated acidity, and a great finish, it should keep for a decade or more." Graham Beck Brut Rosé Western Cape

Wine Spectator: "Peach, white cherry and bergamot notes mingle here, backed by a hint of watermelon rind on the lightly coarse finish. (JM, Web—2014)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Brut Rosé, disgorged March 2015, has a lifted apricot blossom and citrus peel-scented bouquet, perhaps a little more phenolic than I was expecting. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly waxy texture, nicely balanced with white peach and strawberry notes, a touch of dried orange peel, fanning out gently towards an appealing, easy-drinking finish that lingers in ...Read More »

Graham Beck Sparkling Wine South Africa

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Brut , which carries six grams per liter of residual sugar and was disgorged December 2016, is an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It has a fresh lime and sea spray bouquet, well defined with a light honeysuckle aroma. The palate is well balanced with citrus peel on the entry. It might not be as persistent as other South African MCCs, but it is bounding with freshness and delivers a tangy orange-pith finish. How how many champagnes can you get change from with a twenty dollar bill? (NM)" (04/2017) Vinous: ...Read More »

2013 Rustenberg "John X Merriman" Bordeaux Blend Stellenbosch

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 John X Merriman was blended from 17 lots that were vinified separately and sees 20 months in new French oak. It is much more closed than the 2010 despite rigorous coaxing. The palate is well-balanced with fine tannin and a little more tension than the previous vintage, gradually building in the mouth toward an intense, white pepper, savory finish. I would give this five or six years in bottle because it may ultimately out-perform the 2010. Drink 2016-2024. (NM)" (10/2013) 91 points Vinous: " Bright, sa ...Read More »

2015 Rustenberg Chardonnay Stellenbosch South Africa

95 points Decanter: "An impressive Stellenbosch Chardonnay that wouldn't look out of place in Corton-Charlemagne with its complex leesy character. A mosaic of smoke and flint adds considerable interest to this charming wine. Plush aromas of buttery lemons, biscuits and honeydew melon translate well onto the palate. This wine combines power with restraint, richness with acidity, due in part to expertly handled oak. The intensity is palpable, and the flavour and aroma characteristics last a lifetime in the mouth." 91 points Vinous: "Palish bright yellow. ...Read More »

2017 Waterkloof Circumstance "Cape Coral" Mourvèdre Rosé Stellenbosch (Biodynamic) Top Pick!
2017 Waterkloof Circumstance "Cape Coral" Mourvèdre Rosé Stellenbosch (Biodynamic)

A perennial staff and customer favorite at K&L, this is one of our best-selling and most-raved-about rosés every year. Hand-picked from biodynamically farmed, old Mourvèdre vines in a cool coastal sub-region of Stellenbosch, it's a fresh, elegant wine that does a fantastic impression of Bandol (which is also predominantly made from Mourvèdre), but at a fraction of the cost! Waterkloof is a stunning property working with very natural, non-interventionist methods. The wines are pure, expressive, and precisely balanced. 2013 Fable Mountain "Tulbagh Estate" Syrah Western Cape (Previously $30)

92 points Vinous: "Bright medium ruby. Pungent, pure aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and herbs. Dense, saline, concentrated and juicy but silky and fine-grained too. Dark berry and violet flavors show terrific energy and definition, with pepper and herb notes providing additional lift. A touch of smoked meat adds another dimension but this wine stands out most for its terrific purity of fruit, inner-mouth perfume and building, subtle length. I'd give it a year or two of additional cellaring to resolve its firm tannins; it should ...Read More »

2017 A.A. Badenhorst "Curator" White Blend Swartland

"The CURATOR is a range of dynamic wines that are selected after the vintage each year. The grapes are grown in the Swartland region on the West Coast of Southern Africa. The vineyards are mostly bushvines growing in granite and slate soils, sourced from a number of traditional farmers. Chenin Blanc is the backbone and structure of this blend. Delaire Graff Estate is situated in Stellenbosch in the heart of South Africa’s most historic and prestigious wine region. 2014 Beaumont Mourvedre, Bot River

The history of the Beaumont estate stretches back to the 1700s and the Dutch East India Company. Jayne and Raoul Beaumont bought the property in 1974 and set about replanting the vineyards and began producing wines under the family name several years later. Today, the second generation is active in maintaining the vineyards and producing the wines. Beaumont Family Wines was the first to bottle a varietal Mourvedre, and the 2014 was made in a cooler, low-yielding vintage that produced ripe but elegant wines.

2016 Rustenberg Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is the starting point for most newcomers to the wines of South Africa. It is familiar yet exotic. Here are large, perfectly tended estates, as you would find in regions throughout the fine wine growing world, but they are framed by the dramatic and ancient Drackenstein mountains, and sometimes views of the False Bay. Winemaking in the region dates back to the late seventeenth century, which Rustenberg and its vineyard holdings also date back to. Their cellars have been in continuous production since 1892—how many Old World producers, let alo ...Read More »

Of course, altering the structure of this traditional region takes much longer. Dismantling long-held but out-of-date views cannot be done overnight, but winemakers like Bruwer Raats and Gavin Slabbert are spearheading the future of the region."

Jancis Robinson: "50% Semillon, 50% Sauvignon Blanc, from 38-year-old vines. Light nose and excellent balance and presence on the palate. Opens out to a lanolin-assertive, beautifully balanced wine. It may develop more nose in bottle. No hurry whatsoever to drink this. Serious stuff! 17/20 points (JR)" (06/2017)
