1998 Tamdhu 20 Year Old "Old Malt Cask" K&L Exclusive Single First Fill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

The excellent Tamdhu distillery is one we've worked with previously, but the spirit itself doesn't make it to the open market too often. The distillery, near the village of Knockando, has wide onion-shaped stills. Couple that with classic wooden washbacks and you've got one of the most reliable malts on the market. Part of why we don't see more of this excellent spirit on the open market is that the blenders do value the quality and consistency so highly. Since Tamdhu's purchase by Ian Macleod (owners of the Chiefton's Brand) in 2011, their revamped dist ...Read More »

1998 Ledaig 18 Year Old Gordon & Macphail "Connoisseur's Choice" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $130)

The excellent peated expression from the Tobermory distillery is even better when aged for years in high quality casks. Gordon & Macphail's Connoisseur Choice is a vintage expression of the smoky island whisky aged for 18 years in refill sherry hogs head. The salty, intense spirit loves the used sherry and the resulting whisky is one of the finest we've seen from Ledaig under any label. Now consider that the distillery bottlings at 18+ years command well over $150+ in most markets and you'll see what an incredible value this special bottling is. If you'r ...Read More »

1998 Chateau de Vacquié 20 Year Old Unfiltered Haut-Armagnac (750ml) Top Pick!
1998 Chateau de Vacquié 20 Year Old Unfiltered Haut-Armagnac (750ml)

Easily one of the most picturesque properties in the Gers, Chateau Vacquie has extreme potential thanks to its special terroir and passionate proprietor. There's absolutely nothing typical about Chateau Vacquie or its owner Bruno Compagnon. While the area is not particularly renowned for great brandy, this special domaine has been identified by experts as being of exceptional quality. Most notably Aubert De Villaine, a friend of Bruno's who's personally examined the domaine and declared it be one of the finest in the southwest. Bruno was successful busin ...Read More »

1998 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

91 points Vinous: "(78% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot; 5.4 g/l total acidity; 13.2% alcohol): Dark ruby-red. Ripe blackcurrant aromas and flavors are lifted by pungent graphite, cedar and mineral notes. Balanced, pure and smooth in the mouth, with excellent perfume and precision. Finishes long and pure, with lingering cassis and leather notes. This is another Lynch-Bages that has picked up volume and flesh from bottle aging. It's a very classic Pauillac and a wine that can still improve with additional cellaring. ( ...Read More »

1998 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

94 points Wine Spectator: "I love the nose on this wine; multidimensional, with flowers, sweet blackberry and citrus fruit. Full-bodied, with superclassy tannins that are polished and very refined. Goes for minutes on the palate. Still very reserved and not giving all it has. Give it much more bottle time to realize its wonderful style. One of the sleepers of the vintage. 1998 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chablis Domaine de Vaudon

Domaine de Vaudon, also known as Drouhin-Vaudon, is the Chablis domaine of the inimitable Maison Joseph Drouhin, one of the largest landholders in all of Burgundy. Drouhin owns 38 hectares of vines in Chablis, ranging from village level to grand cru. From the domaine: "Joseph Drouhin owns around 6 hectares of vines (15 acres) in the Valley of Vauvillien, nestled between the Mont de Milieu and Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru vineyards. 1998 Screaming Eagle Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) Lightly Nicked Label

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was bottled in late June, has turned out even better that I thought last year. It boasts a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to an expressive bouquet of cassis, minerals, and smoke. This multi-textured, round wine exhibits sweet, well-integrated tannin, a great mid-palate and finish, as well as spectacular purity and palate presence. 1998 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375mL)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe hay, vanilla, and apricot mark the nose; deep orange flavors with cinnamon spice notes and a very smooth mouthfeel are the already promising attributes of this infant. All the right elements are there, and in good balance. " (02/2001) Wine Spectator: "The earthy, waxy flavors slowly give way to the sweet, rich, earthy core of fig and butterscotch flavors. 1998 Noon "Reserve" Shiraz Langhorne Creek South Australia

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Like its older sibling, it exhibits an inky/blue/purple color followed by an attractive bouquet of creosote, tar, creme de cassis, incense, and flowers, but no evidence of oak. This full-bodied, beautifully layered, stunningly pure, long effort is one of the most compelling Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted from South Australia. It can compete with the best of Napa Valley or Washington State in terms of New World Cabernet Sauvignons. It should evolve over the ne ...Read More »

1998 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Rouge

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chapoutier's Ermitage l'Ermite possesses a transparent character that almost allows the taster to see through the wine's multiple levels. What stands out is the liqueur of granite liquid minerality. The elegant 1998 Ermitage l'Ermite rouge is light, but exquisitely balanced, with subtle notes of smoke and black currants. The flavors unfold gently and gracefully, with nothing overstated. The power is restrained, the tannin is well-integrated, and the acidity is barely noticeable. This full-bodied, unctuously-textured, stunningly rich, exuberant, robust, super-endowed Syrah is a total turn-on. Still youthful, it promises to evolve gracefully for 10-12 years. 1998 Forman Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red-ruby. Very complex aromas of cherry, redcurrant, tobacco, smoke and violet; if the '99 is claret-like, this is a bit more Burgundian on the nose. Sweet and supple; very nicely balanced but possesses less stuffing than the '99. Lovely inner-mouth florals call to mind a wine from Pauillac. 1998 Wild Duck Creek Springflat Shiraz

91 points Robert Parker: "A distinctive Shiraz, the black/purple-colored 1998's (600 cases produced) explosive aromatic bouquet is reminiscent of the Maryland-produced Old Bay spice (used with abundance on the local steamed crabs). The spicy note is accompanied by aromas of blackberries, cassis, licorice, and toasty oak. Rich and backward, with fabulous concentration, it will improve significantly with another 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for a minimum of 12-15 years." (02/2000)

It has a sublime bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry, crushed stone and hints of violet. After twenty years it is still so youthful. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly firm tannin at the beginning, plenty of tarry black fruit, well judged acidity and a finish that to be honest, is not a million miles away from the 1998 Haut-Brion in style. This small estate abuts Yquem's vineyard and has an excellent reputation." The estate of Raymond-Lafon fell into neglect, and it was not until 1972 that Pierre Meslier, the manager of Yquem, purchased this vineyard and began to rebuild this wine's once fabulous reputation. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 1998 Mouton Rothschild is deep garnet-brick in color with lovely crème de cassis, dried roses, hoisin and baking spice notes with underlying notions of dried cherries and mulberries plus touches of wood smoke, incense and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and packed with rich fruit framed by firm, chewy tannins, it is stacked with complex, evolving flavors and finishes with incredibly long-lasting perfumed notes. According to winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, this needs about three hours of decanting at this stage. I simply love the place this wine is in right now, possessing plenty of mature, tertiary characters yet still sporting bags of fruit. Its stunning purple color is accompanied by exceptionally sweet aromas of blackberry liqueur intermixed with barbecue spices, an endearing, smoky earthiness, pepper, roasted meats, and coffee.
