1990 L'Encantada 27 Year Old "Domaine le Parre #18" Tenarèze Armagnac (750ml)

The unusual Domaine Le Parre is the first producer in Tenarèze to be uncovered by the crew at L'Encantada. This is a beautiful little estate situated on a plateau, which boasts boulbène soils and was planted to mostly Baco with a small percentage of Ugni Blanc. The domaine stopped cultivating vines in 1995 and was famous for having a giant barrel fashioned from an old train car. While the domaine's eau-de-vie were top notch, the heavier clay soils resulted in eau-de-vie that need extra time to truly become expressive. But after about 20 years, it's clear ...

1990 Port Dundas 28 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (750ml)

Built in 1811, Port Dundas grew throughout the 19th and early 20th century by absorbing neighboring producers. It quickly became Scotland's largest distillery. During its long history on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow, this grain whisky powerhouse provided much of the juice for the Johnnie Walker and White Horse blended whiskies. With Diageo's expansion and modernization of Cameronbridge in the early 2000s, production at Port Dundas ceased, and in 2011 the landmark site was completely demolished. That closure makes this 28 year old sin ...

1990 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Le Corton Grand Cru

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: " A complex nose of earth, leather, game and very ripe, in fact hints of over ripe pinot fruit leading to still firmly structured flavors are underpinned by curiously dusty, chalky tannins with outstanding length. In many '90s, the fruit will never outlast the structure but here the tannins are integrated with the sappy and mouth coating flavors and finish. The only nit is that the wood is not subtle and while not dominant, if it hasn't melted into the essence of the wine by now, it probably will always display a trac ...

1990 Latour, Pauillac

100 points Wine Spectator: "This is one of my favorite wines ever. Full-bodied, with layers of silky fruit and masses of currant, mineral and berry character. Amazing. It's a wine with perfect structure, perfect strength. It's 1961 Latour in modern clothes. It's hard not to drink it now. (JS)" (02/2005) 98-99 points James Suckling: "The quality of the tannins and density of fruit is truly beautiful. This is so focused, with purity and beauty. The 1990 Latour came into my head when I tasted this (twice). It starts off slowly and then builds and builds a ...

1990 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Napa Cabernet exhibits a Graves-like bouquet of tobacco, cassis, minerals, and spice. Chewy and full-bodied, with stunning extraction of fruit...This wine, first reviewed in issue #89, is repeated to remind readers that the 1990 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley and Napa cuvee, as well as the 1989 Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet have finally been released. 1990 Shinshu Mars Komagatake 27 Year Single Malt Japanese Whisky (750ml)

The Mars distillery is very well regarded in Japan and is easily considered the "super third" after the famous Suntory and Nikka distilleries. They don't focus exclusively on traditional single malt and are prone to experiment. They only produce whisky in the winter months so production is very small. The Komagatake is their ultra-rare, four-barrel single malt. Three of the four barrels are from 1988 or earlier, while the fourth is from 1990. Only 1,286 bottles were produced, for which the distillery holds a lottery prior to release. This is the Japanese ...

Woodward Canyon Winery was established by Lowden native Rick Small in 1981. One of the first Walla Walla wineries, it quickly rose to fame with a series of intense, complex, long aging red wines. The winery has consistently produced premium, award-winning Cabernet Sauvignons (and Merlots as well as barrel-fermented Chardonnays).

1990 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep brick in color, the 1990 Clos de Sarpe opens with notions of chanterelles, moss-covered tree bark, dusty earth and sandalwood over a core of dried cherries and plums plus a touch of new leather. Softly textured in the full-bodied mouth, the palate displays great richness and depth, with the long, compelling finish revealing a gustatory exercise in mineralogy. (LPB)" (05/2018)

Give it time. (JS)" (08/2000) 93 points John Gilman: "The 1990 Pichon-Lalande is a very fine example of the vintage. Full-bodied and loaded with flavor, it displays fine length, balance, and purity. Approachable now, it promises to be at its best in 4-5 years and last for 15 or more. Bravo! 1990 Palmer, Margaux

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, I confess that maybe I've been harsh towards the 1990 Château Palmer in the past, since it never quite matched the sublime 1989. However, this represents the finest bottle that I have encountered. The nose is complex with red cherries, allspice and sous-bois, tertiary scents developing as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance, not the most complex 1990 and not a patch on say Château Margaux 1990, yet there is precision here and a plea ...

1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 is a benchmark Clerc Milon that put all those years of hurt behind it. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this is a very different blend to the 1986 due to vineyard acquisitions. It is almost a decade since the 1990 blew me away whilst dining at Mouton in my 'buying' days and by 2013 it has retained that wondrous bouquet of blackberry, kirsch, fresh mint and leather. Frankly speaking, you would not want to put Mouton ’90 anywhere near, to spare the First Growth’s blushes ...

With a huge nose of chocolate, cedar, and cassis, this rich, full-bodied, spectacular wine offers unbelievably concentrated flavors, firm, sweet tannins, and enough acidity to give it grip and delineation. Decadent aromas of ripe red cherry and cassis are lifted by cedar and graphite notes. Enters the mouth soft and creamy, showing an almost opulent mouthfeel, then turns slightly diffuse in the middle, with ripe flavors of dark cherry and blackcurrant jam lingering nicely. 1990 M. Chapoutier "Le Pavillon" Ermitage (1.5L) (lightly nicked label)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Le Pavilion is as compelling as the 1989. It exhibits slightly less opulence, but more power and weight. Black colored, with an extraordinary perfume of licorice, sweet blackcurrants, smoke, and minerals, it coats the palate with layer upon layer of decadently rich, superconcentrated, nearly viscous Syrah flavors. I underrated this years ago. (JS) " (08/2000) 92 points John Gilman: "The 1990 Haut Bailly is an excellent example of the vintage, but at the present time the wine remains still quite closed and in need of a few more years in the cellar to really reach its zenith. This lavishly rich Cote Rotie, which is already delicious, is capable of lasting for 10-15 years. Supple enough to be drunk now, it promises to last for 10-15 years. 1990 Graham's Malvedos Centenary Vintage Port

Its flamboyant, up-front fat and decadence provide more initial appeal than the monstrous but restrained Dow. It also reveals extraordinary richness and a fabulous finish. The expansive 1990, which has had 15% Merlot added, is a near-termer, with low acidity, satiny smooth, rich flavors, and gobs of toffee, mocha, and cassis in its bouquet. The biggest, richest, fullest-bodied Lynch Bages until the 2000, the fully mature 1990 exhibits an unbelievably explosive nose of black currants, cedarwood, herbs and spice. The majestic, classically Bordeaux aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, rich, intense wine with superb purity as well as thrilling levels of fruit, glycerin and sweetness. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 98JS, 97WS, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle lived up to its reputation on this occasion, and of the three titans (1990, 1978 and 1961), it was probably my favorite. Still inky colored and ruby at the rim, it offers an absolutely profound bouquet of sweet cassis, smoked meats, chocolate, licorice and spice. This is followed by a full-bodied, insanely textured, pure and hedonistic palate that has that perfect mix of still-vibrant fruit and ample secondary nuances. I suspect the '61 was even richer at this stage, but the overall purity and freshness here are incredible. It will continue to evolve for decades, but I'd happily open bottles today. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Denis Mortet Chambertin Grand Cru (93BH, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Lightening at the rim but no actual bricking. The notably ripe nose has gone entirely secondary and now evidences some sous-bois as well along with plenty of warm earth and smoky game hints. There is excellent richness to the big-bodied, concentrated and delicious flavors where the underlying minerality helps to add a bit of lift to the round, velvety and slightly warm finish. This is not as elegant as the '91 Chambertin (see herein) but the balance is slightly better. 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (98RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Pichon-Longueville Baron has always been one of my benchmark wines, one that never ceases to perform. Now at 27 years of age, it is clearly at its peak, and what a wondrous thing it is. Now showing some bricking on the rim, the bouquet is utterly sublime, with red berries, cedar, touches of graphite, crushed rose petals and incense. You just want to become enveloped by these aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced, perhaps not as structured as it once showed since the tannins have mellowed, but what you get is a Pauillac relishing its secondary phase, which is almost Burgundy-like in terms of mouthfeel. Suffused with tension, it gains weight in the mouth toward the slightly tart finish. It is a Pichon Baron that only knows how to give sophisticated drinking pleasure. I once wrote that Pichon Baron is better than many 1990 First Growth, and that is a statement I have no reason

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Gros Frère et Soeur Clos Vougeot "Musigni" Grand Cru (93BH, 93RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 offerings are potentially Bernard Gros' finest and most classically made wines. The glories are the three super-expensive, limited edition grands crus. Students of Burgundy know that Bernard Gros' parcel of Clos de Vougeot, which is situated next to the grand cru Musigny in neighboring Chambolle-Musigny, probably has the finest exposition entire Clos. The 1990 is an exquisite wine. The dark ruby/purple color, huge, flowery, sweet, black-cherry aromas, and super-crammed, fabulously rich palate are the makings of Burgundy legends. There are tons of glycerin and alcohol, as well as moderate tannin levels in this super-rich, hedonistic wine. Despite its massiveness, it has excellent balance. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
