1985 Fonseca Vintage Port

96 points Decanter: "A troublesome vintage for many shippers, but Fonseca 1985 never fails to impress: tight-knit, dense and minty with a core of concentration and pure berry fruit. Succulent, wonderfully fresh and vibrant at 30 years old. Peacock’s tail of a finish. A real ‘wow’ of a wine that promises to last a lifetime. (RM)" (11/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Fonseca is still youthful in appearance with hardly any ageing on the rim. The nose offers kirsch, sloes and Christmas cake. With time, there are subtle notes of drie ...Read More »

1985 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of plum, currant, lead pencil and milk chocolate. Sweet but penetrating and gripping, with lovely clarity of flavor and terrific thrust. Classic claret, with lovely fruit and a very long, ripely tannic finish. A compelling example from this very elegantly styled vintage. (ST)" (07/2002) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a gorgeous example that may well represent a more modern-day clone of the splendid 1953. Dark ruby/garnet with an open-knit, complex, ripe ...Read More »

1985 Blandy´s Malmsey Madeira

Neal Martin writes: "My “road to Damascus” was a Bual 1920 tasted in the Old Blandy Wine Lodge in Funchal. Up until then, I had assumed I would dislike Madeira. How wrong I was! So I will always have a great deal of time for this major house, which supplies around one-third of all Madeira sold and celebrated their bicentennial last year. I have detailed the history of Blandy’s on several occasions and so I advise readers to seek out my article “The Atlantic Jewel” on Wine-Journal for further information. Basically, Blandy’s is a brand under the Madeira W ...Read More »

1985 L'Evangile, Pomerol

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful L’Evangile and one of the vintage’s top successes, the color still retains a very dense ruby/purple with only a bit of lightening at the edge. A classic nose of liquid intermixed with black raspberries., blackberries, licorice, and a hint of truffle jumps from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, very concentrated, well-balanced, sweet, authoritatively powerful yet at the same time elegant wine. It has reached full maturity , where it should rest for some time to come. (RP)" (01/2003) 93 points ...Read More »

1985 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer, largely because their 1931 and 1927 were to vintage port what the 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1945 Mouton-Rothschild were to the Bordeaux trade - divine, monumental wines of extraordinary depth of flavor. The 1985 is quite concentrated, seductive, and amazingly delicious. (RP)" (01/1989) Wine Spectator: "Very good, it should come together with time. Medium ruby-purple, with a plum nose, full-bodied, with concentrated plum flavors, full tannins and a lo ...Read More »

1985 Joseph Phelps "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
1985 Joseph Phelps "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The backward 1985 Eisele Vineyard is marvelously concentrated, but extremely tannic and at least 5-10 years away from full maturity. Impressively endowed, well-focused, dense, powerful, thick, and tannic, this wine leaves little doubt that the extract, ripeness, and quantity of fruit are more than sufficient to balance out the wine's tannic ferocity. This is a huge, massive, stunningly proportioned Cabernet Sauvignon that should hit its stride by the turn of the century and last for two decades. (RP)" (04/1995) ...Read More »

1985 La Mission-Haut-Brion, Graves Back In Stock!
1985 La Mission-Haut-Brion, Graves

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A dark plum/garnet color reveals a pinkish lightening at the edge, and the bouquet reveals plenty of smoke, camphor, charcoal, graphite, sweet kirsch and blacker fruit aromas intermixed with meaty, sauteed mushroom, cedar and spicy notes. The lovely aromatics are followed by flavors that do not quite match the intensity of the bouquet, a sign of a fully mature wine. This medium-bodied effort has plenty of glycerin, low acidity and not a trace of tannin. While not terribly generous, it is a soft, round, charming, ...Read More »

1985 Whitehall Lane "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

1985 Groth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Groth turned in a superb performance with its 1985 regular cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers beautiful, sweet, ripe, flashy, black-cherry and cassis fruit, toasty oak, and a subtle, herbaceous note. (RP)" (04/1995) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Lovely perfumed, floral and cherry-berry aromas belie its age. Supple and graceful, this is a delicate wine that has shed most of its tannins yet retained a tasty core of fruit. Best soon, as the plum, floral and berry flavors are tasty. (JL, Web only-2005)"

1985 Warre's Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop... they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1985 is the sweetest and richest of the recent Warre vintages. Extremely concentrated, rich, even luscious, this full-bodied, intense, opulent wine has layers of fruit, a full-blown bouquet, and impeccable balance. 1985 l'Arrosée, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous wine young, but beginning to slip a bit as it approaches its 16th birthday, this wine showed wonderfully floral notes of framboise, violets, and cherries in its youth, but is beginning to lose some of the sweetness and fatness it had early on, and show a more structured, drying finish. 1985 Diamond Creek "Gravelly Meadow" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Diamond Creek "Gravelly Meadow" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Al and Boots Brounstein founded Diamond Creek Vineyards in 1968. The three vineyards Brounstein planted have produced some of the most long-lived, elegant wines from the state of California, wines that make the case "that Diamond Creek is the finest producer of Cabernet Sauvignon in America," according to wine writer Pierre DuMont. The second-coolest mesoclimate that Diamond Creek sources from is the five-acre Gravelly Meadow vineyard on Diamond Mountain. Originally a prehistoric river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly and the vines struggle for moisture. As a result, Gravelly Meadow is DC's lowest-yielding vineyard, and its wines among the very best in California.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Approaching full maturity, this beautifully sweet Chateau Margaux has a dense plum/purple color and a huge, sweet nose of black currants intermixed with licorice, toast, underbrush, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannin and a fleshy, juicy, very succulent and multi-layered mid-palate, this expansive, velvety wine has entered its plateau of maturity, where it should remain (assuming good storage) for at least another 10-15 years. Probably best after 1994." (11/88) 91 points Robert Parker: "Groth turned in a superb performance with its 1985 regular cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon. 1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Is the 1985 the sleeper of the vintage? An astonishing amount of creamy, black-cherry and chocolate-scented fruit fills the nose. On the palate, this full-bodied wine is loaded with extract, great length, and has super finish with plenty of fruit and tannin in proper balance. (RP)" (01/1989) Wine Spectator: "I have tasted this blind with all the other big-name '85s and it often holds its own. 1985 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (93JG, 91BH). John Gilman: "The 1985 Bonneau du Martray is fully into its apogee, and is drinking splendidly. The bouquet is deep, complex and classic, as it offers up a mélange of lemon zest, fresh peaches, corn meal, a bit of iodine, spring flowers, wet stones, and a delicate framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and brilliantly focused, with excellent mid-palate depth, fine balance, and a outstanding length and grip on the complex and à point finish. The 1985 vintage of Bonneau du Martray has aged beautifully, and while at its peak today, will surely continue drinking very well for at least the next ten to twelve years. Fine juice." (09/2008)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1985 Domaine Clos de Tart (Mommessin) Clos de Tart Grand Cru (93BH, 92RP, 91WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Only trace bricking. A remarkably elegant and spicy nose that is now fully mature reveals the initial hints of sous bois while leading to rich, full, delicious and very complex mouth coating flavors of superb depth and length. This is very impressive juice and still holding perfectly and the '85 is easily the best vintage of the decade for Clos de Tart." (11/2014)
