1983 Taylor Vintage Port

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1983 Vintage Port is up for a status check. It is in a pretty good place now. It's been as hard as nails over the years. Not anymore. With softened tannins and a medley of old Port flavors on the finish, this is both sensual and delicious, with velvety texture and an irresistible finish. It doesn't have that hard edge any more, but it does wake up and become more intense with some air. At least from this bottle, it comes together rather promptly and drinks well. It's lacking just a bit of firmness, but its co ...Read More »

1983 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe

91 points Wine Spectator: "Dense and powerful with tobacco, cherry and vanilla aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and very firm with a long finish. Needs time. (JS)" (10/1994) K&L Notes: Praise from Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Tasted several times, earthy and elegant in Jul-99. Tasted again in September 2004 at the Rhodes tasting. This is a very fine 1983: far superior on the nose to the 1988. Damson, mulberry and a touch of earth. Fine definition. Perhaps even a little mint leaf. The palate is well-defined with rounded, plummy damson fruit. Not complex ...Read More »

1983 Suduiraut, Sauternes

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This looks to be a good Suduiraut. A medium golden color, with a very honeyed, rich, floral bouquet, this full-bodied wine is not as profound as the other 1983s. Sweet, with fine honeyed flavors, this is an elegant, graceful Suduiraut with plenty of character..." (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Delicious and balanced, showing exciting earthy, white truffle flavors that add complexity to the honey and spice notes. Medium intensity." (04/1995)

1983 Silver Oak "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Bonny's Vineyard was planted by Silver Oak founders Bonny and Justin Meyer in 1974 on a gravelly, four-acre plot in the Oakville district of Napa Valley. It was a much-heralded bottling for Silver Oak over the course of two decades, and the vineyard is now bottled under its own label by the Meyers. A rare addition to any Silver Oak collection.

1983 Dow's Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1983 is rich, concentrated, very fruity, and magnificently perfumed, suggesting that it is going to mature early, long before the 1977. (RP)" (01/1989) Jancis Robinson: "Mid crimson and slightly grey. Very sweet and round and slightly raisiny. Slight rustic edge but very ripe and round and lively with a certain freshness and punch. Long and powerful. Looking good for the future, A confident wine. ...Read More »

1983 Harvey's Vintage Port
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1983 Harvey's Vintage Port. From Decanter Magazine: "The majority of shippers chose (rightly in retrospect) to declare 1983 instead of 1982 making this something of a ‘split vintage’. Initially the ’83s were quite difficult to taste, the fruit being wrapped up in powerful muscular tannins. With age however, the wines gained flesh and appeal but the cast iron backbone remains. The best will last forever."

1983 Pichon Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Pichon Lalande, Pauillac (95WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Bold pepper, savory and roasted cedar notes lead the way, with a core of steeped plum, macerated black currant and bitter cherry fruit. Extra tobacco, alder and juniper accents stud the finish, which still has plenty of grip.—Non-blind Pichon Lalande vertical. Drink now through 2030. (JM, Web Only-2014)"

1983 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru "Clos de la Marechale"
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru "Clos de la Marechale". Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Still relatively deeply colored though there is some mild bricking at the rim. A slightly barnyard-affected nose displays plenty of earth and game scents along with hints of brown sugar. There is still reasonably good intensity to the robust and rustic flavors where, like many '83s today, are supported by firm and somewhat inelegant tannins on the ever-so-slightly drying and warm finish. This is a typical '83 in the sense that it is still alive and in no danger of falling over the edge anytime soon but with that comes a lack of balance and harmony. As such I would be inclined to drink this sooner than later." (11/2015)

1983 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1983 Margaux, Margaux (98JS, 98WS, 96RP, 95ST). Wine Spectator: "This pulls together all the glorious notes of a fully mature Margaux, with singed cedar, rooibos tea, rose water and sandalwood aromas, followed by a stunning mélange of both fresh and dried red and black fruits, including currant, cherry, raspberry and plum. The long finish lets everything drape together beautifully. Absolutely stunning, this seems in no hurry to go anywhere. Remarkably fresh and defined at this time. Drink now through 2035.
