1966 Taylor Vintage Port (cracked capsules/signs of past seepage)

Wine Spectator: "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades... (RP)" (12/1988)

1966 Viña Real Reserva Especial Rioja (5 cm fills)

91 points John Gilman: "Cuné’s 1966 Viña Real Rioja Reserva Especial is a very lovely wine, but it is not quite in the league with the beautiful wines made under this label in 1968 and 1964. Ironically, for a wine that is nearly fifty years old, it still seems slightly constricted on the palate by its structural elements, which takes a way a bit of the velvety palate impression that makes the two flanking vintages of this bottling so superb. The bouquet on the ’66 is excellent, wafting from the glass in a mix of red and black cherries, cloves, a fine bas ...Read More »

1966 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan

93 points Vinous: "Having tasted the 1966 Laville Haut-Brion three times now, I know it can be an outstanding Pessac-Léognan. This was not in the same class as the bottle tasted back in 2015, although it still shows its class. Closed at first, the 1966 then opens with those disarming lanolin and wax resin scents, albeit without the delineation of previous bottles. The palate offers notes of dried pineapple, quite saline in the mouth, with strong and powerful honeyed notes towards the finish. This certainly improved in the glass, gaining more precision an ...Read More »

1966 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (mid-shoulder)

John Gilman: "I have had several utterly brilliant bottles of the ’66 Las Cases, but I have also had some that were good, rather than great, and our bottle at this particular tasting unfortunately fell into the latter camp. The nose on this bottle offered up a lovely mix of black cherries, black truffles, tobacco, soil tones and espresso. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and a touch four-square, with good length, but a bit of volatile acidity beginning to poke through on the backend. I am not sure if the bottles I had of this wine that were si ...Read More »

1966 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (375mL) (paper adhered to labels)(low neck) (Previously $469)

94 points John Gilman: "I had only tasted the ’66 Cheval on one previous occasion, and that bottle was a stylish, complex and gentle middleweight. This bottle was several notches up from the previous one, offering terrific mid-palate depth and great length and grip on the complex finish. The bouquet is classic, mature Cheval, with a level of intensity and depth that is not far off the 1964. Scents of roasted chestnuts, black cherries, hints of bell pepper, tobacco, a bit of menthol and coffee tones soar from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodi ...Read More »

1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My God, this is a wonderful mature Lafite. Served blind chez Rosemary George MW it has a definable Pauillac nose with subtle notes of cedar, sous-bois and a touch of dried blood. It has incredible harmony and purity – a bouquet that has you instantly captivated. The palate does not disappoint: a beguiling sense of natural harmony and delineation, not the weight of Latour nor the femininity of Margaux, but a Lafite aiming for understated sophistication. Delicate cedar and cigar box towards the finish that just goes on and on. This bottle vindicates my first encounter in Bordeaux, when it similarly bewitched its audience. Absolutely sublime. Tasted April 2008. (NM)" (07/2008)

1966 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Latour, Pauillac (96JG, 96RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1966 Latour remains an exemplar of the vintage, certainly one of the best, if not the best Left Bank wine of the vintage. Here, served blind, its quality was a beacon, quintessentially Pauillac with that trademark graphite seam through the intense black fruit, cold stone and a touch of tobacco. It remains undimmed by its age (though this was served from a magnum of impeccable provenance). The palate is medium-bodied and that graphite theme continues unabated, flanked by beautiful, precise and pure vestiges of black fruit. 'Pure class' are the final two words of my tasting note and at 50 years old, they sum up this immensely impressive Château Latour. (NM)" (10/2016)

1966 La Mission-Haut-Brion, Graves
Bid on this bottle of 1966 La Mission-Haut-Brion, Graves (93WS). Wine Spectator: "Very ripe, rich and fleshy, although still with a hard backbone. Deep ruby, brick-red color, ripe, intense raspberry aromas, full-bodied, with ripe, rich raspberry flavors and cedar and tobacco notes. There's plenty of tannin here. (JS)" (11/1991)

1966 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (96BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A monumentally spicy nose of stunning breed and complexity leads to medium-full, beautifully delineated yet velvet-textured flavors that offer incredible length that just goes on and on. The richness and elegance are nothing short of phenomenal and this is in incredible condition for a 50 year old wine and if well-stored, should continue to hold without difficulty. In a word, awesome! Three other recent bottles were still lovely but not quite at the same level as the one described above. In sum, like many '66s today impeccable storage is paramount to enjoying a great example because when it isn't the wines are becoming too fragile to overcome it." (10/2016)
