1959 Haut-Brion, Graves
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Haut-Brion, Graves (100JG, 100VN, 98WS). Vinous: "The 1959 Haut-Brion is, in my view, the most moving of the utterly profound wines on the table. Ripe and flamboyant, the 1959 races across the palate with kirsch, mint, licorice and tobacco, all in an unctuous, flashy style that captivates all the senses. A darker and more voluptuous version of the 1961, the 1959 has it all. Layered and sweet on the palate, with fabulous depth and breathtaking complexity, the 1959 boasts superb polish, a long, seamless finish and tremendous harmony. At times, the 1959 exhibits an almost Burgundian-like sense of finesse and lightness on the palate. Quite simply, this is as good as it gets. The 1959 shows no signs of fading; rather it is likely to gradually lose intensity over the next 10-15 years, although it may last well beyond that. I wasn’t born when the 1959 was made, so I can only imagine what it must have tasted like as a young wine. Even today, it is incredibly rich. In

1959 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (92VN). Vinous: "The 1959 Calon-Ségur is a vintage that, to my surprise, I have never encountered before. This particular example was bottled by the merchant: "Morgan Furze". Showing commensurate signs of ageing, it has a wonderful nose with vestiges of black fruit, shoe leather (perhaps more like the scent if you walked into tannery – singed leather perchance?), desiccated orange rind and mint. With aeration, there is a touch of old bricks lending another layer of satisfying complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with bitter cherry on the entry, allspice and cola, becoming more tarry towards the finish. This shows commendable breeding, still full of freshness and if you can abide a bit of Saint-Estèphe rusticity, this will suit you down to the ground. (NM)" (07/2018)

1959 Talbot, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Talbot, St-Julien (92JG). John Gilman: "The 1959 Château Talbot has been fully mature for decades, but continues to cruise along happily along its plateau of maturity and shows no signs whatsoever of starting to fade anytime soon. The wine is very pure and elegant today, offering up a lovely nose of dried berries, a touch of spiced meats, lovely soil tones, sweet cigar ash (if this makes any sense) and a nice touch of woodsmoke in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, sweet and complex, with a velvety personality, lovely focus and grip, melted tannins and a long, bright and à point finish. A lovely wine in its tertiary stage of delicacy and elegance. " (03/2017)
