1947 Casa de Sonoma Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1947 Casa de Sonoma Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. From a wartime production that had been stored and later bottled at the El Galivan winery by August Sebastiani, then proprietor, in 1947. The name Casa de Sonoma refers to the name of Sebastiani's private residence and the wine is said to have been originally intended for personal consumption and rarely marketed. It was stored in an old stable on the Sebastiani property for decades. After August passed away in 1980, the bottles were catalogued, inspected, and re-corked. (Source: Interview with Doug Davis, former Vice President and Executive Winemaster of Sebastiani, as summarized in "A Second Chance - Casa de Sonoma Cabernet Bottled in 1947" by Gregory Dal Piaz, Snooth, 4/3/2009)
