Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This full-bodied, modern-styled St.-Emilion offers a sensational perfume of smoky barbecue, jammy black currants, kirsch, licorice, and a touch of pain grille. Fleshy, savory, and full-bodied, it has shed much of its tannin, but still possesses abundant structure. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The flagship property of Jonathan Maltus (his residence as well), this is the best Teyssier I have ever tasted. A tribute to his efforts, this blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc over-achieves even in a great vintage like 2009. Opaque blue/purple, with notes of charcoal, blackberry, cassis and spring flowers as well as a hint of subtle background oak., the wine is opulent, sumptuously textured, dense, pure and multi-dimensional. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Purple to the rim, the 2005 Faugères is a powerhouse at 14.5% alcohol, with notes of graphite, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice and truffle. Some incense also makes an appearance in this full-bodied, super-concentrated, modern-styled St.-Emilion. If I hadn’t known, I would have guessed was the luxury cuvée Péby and not the basic Faugères! Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The crushed rock-like terroir character of this tiny, but fabulous vineyard is unmistakable in the 2004 Clos St.-Martin. Sweet plum, cherry, and wet stone characteristics also emerge from this beauty that tastes like liquid rocks intermixed with red and black fruits. Wine Spectator: "Ripe and thickly layered, with boysenberry and fig paste flavors taking the lead, pushed by some hefty ganache and black licorice notes. The finish has an ample roasted apple wood injection holding sway, though there's good underlying cut thanks to a buried chalky minerality. Juicy and sappy for the year, with lovely energy to the concentrated flavors of cherry, minerals, smoke, flowers and earth. Very sophisticated, shapely wine with a long, ripely tannic finish throwing off notes of smoke, minerals and iron. (ST)" (06/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1994 Pavie-Macquin, St-Emilion ((90-92ST), 91VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Black-ruby color. Superripe, highly perfumed aromas of crushed raspberries and pungent oak. Wonderful inner-mouth flavor, and quite fresh for the year, but there's not quite the fat of the '95. Here the substantial tannins are a bit more present. Not as seamless as the '95, but this is impressive juice. Very concentrated and very long. (ST)" (05/1996)
