Bid on this 3-magnum lot of 2005 Bodega Numanthia Termes Numanthia Toro (1.5L) (94WE, 94WS, 93ST). Wine Enthusiast: Worn leather, hickory and earth scents accent the deep fruit that Numanthia is known for. But it’s the polished mouthfeel and consistent delivery of flavor and texture on this ’05 that distinguishes it from so many big bombers from Toro. By the time it’s done you hardly feel the tannins on the finish, which lingers comfortably for minutes. Excellent wine to drink over the next six years. (06/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Bodega Numanthia-Termes "Termanthia" Toro (OWC - 95RP, 95VN, 95WS) in original wood. Vinous: "Saturated ruby. Explosively perfumed scents of blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry, complicated by a seductive array of Asian spices, vanilla, mocha and fresh flowers. Palate-saturating dark berry flavors are almost shockingly elegant, with balancing minerality adding focus and lift. Fine-grained tannins make an attempt to assert themselves but are utterly absorbed by the sweet, dark fruit. Finishes with sweet, focused blackcurrant and cherry flavors and remarkable persistence. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja (98JS, 96RP). James Suckling: "Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now, or hold for a very long time." (07/2019)

Black raspberry, plum, violet, lead pencil, mocha and sweet oak aromas. Dense, lush and smooth, with restrained sweetness and solid structure. Just a hint of pepper to suggest that the material that did not make it into big brother Pingus was somewhat less ripe. But very suavely made; harmonious, concentrated and long on the aftertaste. Bid on this bottle of 1994 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (96DC, 96RP, 96WS, 95ST, 95WE, 94JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1994 Unico is a blend of 80% Tinto Fino, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot (presumably 2% is unknown varieties) that was picked from September 28. It is very intense with notes of raspberry, wild strawberry and mulberry with sensational minerality and vigor. There is a Margaux-like florality to the 1994 that blossom with aeration. The palate is rounded and supple on the entry with great weight and backbone. There is real substance here, similar to the 1996. It expands in the mouth with ravishing notes of blackberry, strawberry, citrus lemon, orange peel and a touch of cedar. There is enormous weight on the finish, a behemoth of a Unico. This is very potent, but it still requires several years in bottle. (NM)" (08/2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Muga Reserva Seleccion Especial is the identical cepage but sourced from older vineyards and aged longer in barrel. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an alluring perfume of sandalwood, pencil lead, incense, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, rich, structured, and savory, on the palate spice notes and terroir aromas make an appearance leading to a pure, 45-second finish. (JM)" (05/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 2007 Vinedos de Paganos "El Puntido" Gran Reserva Rioja (96RP, 94JD). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Putting my nose in the glass of the 2007 El Puntido Gran Reserva transported me to the classical Riojas from yesteryear. The wine has a fully developed nose with all the textbook descriptors of a good aged Rioja—forest floor, cigar ash, cold bonfire, truffle, cherries in liqueur, blonde tobacco, spices and iodine. But this is a classical Gran Reserva that has something that was not that traditional, and it comes from a single vineyard and matured in brand new French oak barrels for 28 months. But time in bottle has polished it (it was bottled in June 2010, almost nine years ago); the tannins are mostly resolved and it's nicely textured. It has what I love about the best red wine—it's salty rather than sweet, there is no room for sweetness here, and it's sapid and tasty and has great balance and freshness. (LG)" (06/2019)

Superripe, slightly high-toned aromas of dark raspberry and licorice. Extremely ripe, rich and sweet, with a remarkably lush texture and early accessibility for Rioja. Bid on this bottle of 1996 Abadia Retuerta "Cuvée Campanario" Sardon del Duero (93RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 100% Tempranillo 1996 Cuvee Campanario represents a blend of the finest parcels of Tempranillo. The wine was aged in 100% new French Limousin oak for 16 months, then bottled without filtration. It reveals a saturated purple color, and is more backward both aromatically and on the palate, as well as more impressive. The wine's bouquet falls in the black fruit spectrum of aromas - blackberries, black raspberries, and overripe cherries. Full-bodied and tightly-knit, with intriguing mineral notes, this powerful, rich, layered wine could easily pass for a top-class Bordeaux in a blind tasting. The result of 28 days of maceration, the high tannin is sweet and well-integrated in the wine's framework. (RP)" (10/1998)
