98 points Decanter: "This dynamic golden white blend of three Imeretian varieties is hand-made in qvevri by Archil Guniava, one of the country’s best family producers. (CC)" (01/2021) K&L Notes: Archil Guniava comes from a long line of winemakers in the Imereti region of Georgia. With only 1.5 hectares of vineyards and averaging about 1100 bottles of production annual...

Before the Greeks, before the Romans, it was the Georgians who were making wine. Archeological evidence dates back 8,000 years and references to Georgian wines can be found in the writings of Homer and Apollonius, and even the Georgian alphabet seems to have its origins in the shapes made by the tendrils of grape vines. Pheasant's Tears is the joint effort of American John Wurdeman, Georgian Gela Patalishvili, and Swedes Erik Andermo, Jakob Mörndal, and Henrik Callerstrand. They work to preserve and promote this ancient cultural legacy. All of Pheasant's...

Zurab Topuridze splits his time growing grapes between the Guria region of West Georgia and the Kakheti region of East Georgia. The winery "Iberieli" takes its name from the ancient peoples who reside in the Caucasus who made wine there and would later become the people of Georgia. Still utilizing many of their classic techniques, Zurab does all natural ferments with whole cluster macerations for both whites and reds. The Saperavi has a short maceration on its skins in Qvevri. Inky and intensely flavored this is a more medium-full bodied style of Sap...
