98 points Int'l Wine Review: "The 2019 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Dunn in nothhing short of stunning in this vintage. This immediately begins to impress as it opens to gorgeous perfumed aromatics of ripe dark currants and black cherries, which are woven together with fresh violets, graphite shavings, exotic spices, herbs and earthy minerals that all come together and burst from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and remarkably polished, with absolutely incredible overall balance and structure. This displays wonderful precision and ...

100 points James Suckling: "Dark ruby, purple color. Aromas of blackcurrants, black truffle, crushed stone, licorice and hints of tar. Full-bodied, deep and vertical on the palate, drawing you in and down. The structure is very tannic and powerful, yet the tannins are folded into the wine. One of the most powerful Moutons ever for me. Try after 2027." (02/2019) 100 points Wine Advocate: "Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Mouton Rothschild has an opaque garnet-purple color. WOW—the nose explo...

93 points James Halliday: "It's matured in all-French oak and while it's mostly cabernet and merlot there's a small portion of petit verdot in the mix. It's medium weight and fluid with blackcurrant, milk chocolate and gravel notes slipping amiably through. It has shape and texture but integrity of fruit is key here. No mucking about; this is a good cabernet to drink. (CM)" (06/2021) 93 points James Suckling: "The spearmint and fresh-basil notes come through clearly, to buttress the currant and berry character on the palate. Medium to full body. Round,...

94 points Decanter: "Pleasure-packed, balanced, bright, and fresh. A terrific showing for the excellent 2021 vintage. Leads with vibrant red berry fruits and flowers. With just over two weeks macerating on the skins and 12 months ageing in 40% new French oak, the tannins are pixelated, the acid tension vivid, and the medium to full body is flush with loads of crunchy dark berry fruit. It’s a downright delicious red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. (JC)" (05/2023) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, bl...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A tour de force from Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte matches the 2009 in terms of quality but possesses a more dense, powerful, compact style. Absolutely heavenly aromatics of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked tobacco, scorched earth, and truffle all define the aromatics, and it takes air to show at its best today. With full-bodied richness, massive concentration, and building tannins, it's flawless balanced, has an insane level of purity, and incredible length on the finish. This brilliant, brilliant Graves will ...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another magical wine from this property, the 2009 Château Cos D'Estournel reminds me slightly of the 2005 with its incredibly rich, powerful, opulent style married to stunning finesse and elegance. Still youthful yet with a touch of maturity, its deep ruby/plum color is followed by classic Saint-Estèphe notes of blackcurrants, dried tobacco, loamy earth, Asian spices, and licorice. Deep, full-bodied, and massive on the palate, it's flawlessly balanced and has building tannins hiding under its wealth of fruit, with no hard edges a...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Supple and seamless, this powerful but silky-textured wine competes with those four times its price. The wine brings together wonderful ripe black fruit flavors and alluring oak shadings of tobacco, espresso, mint and blueberries for a taste that’s compelling now but sure to improve with aging. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (10/2023) K&L Notes: Hendry is a stunning family-owned estate right at the base of Mount Veeder to the northwest of downtown Napa. Four generations of the Hendry family has now been tending the land for 84 year...

96 points Decanter: "A fist of late summer cherries, raspberry and bilberry fruits set out their stall, all with the juicy character that confirms, even in a hot vintage like 2017, Opus can deliver balance and sculpted elegance. Beautiful grip, creamy texture with a strikingly powerful tannic frame. As the wine stays in the glass the floral aromatics begin to bloom up. A brilliant Opus. 20 days maceration - around half what it would have been a decade ago. 54% native yeast, as part of their native yeast project. 5% Merlot and 1% Malbec complete the blend...

Medium to full-bodied with black currants, ripe blackberry and black cherry notes framed by velvety tannins laced with that irresistible vanillin note. Toasty oak spices lend a hint of sweetness, balanced by grippy acidity. Long and complex, revealing umami, garrigue, and crushed slatestone on the finish. Château Bois-Malot is located in St-Loubes and situated on the shoreline of the Dordogne River. The soils are clay and light limestone with a subsoil of red pebbles and clay. The wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and is aged for 18 months in tanks, followed by six months in barrels. If you like framboise you will adore this wine — 2015 was a huge success for this property. Lots of red and black fruits, leafy herbs, flowers, and foresty, earthy notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced 2017 with lots of varietal character, polished tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to keep for 10-15 years." (05/2021) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and polished, with an elegantly complex core that drives the black cherry and dusky spice flavors towa...

Ordaz Family Wines is dedicated to single-vineyard production. The Cabernet vines for this bottling are from the dry-farmed Montecillo Vineyard, planted in 1970, just south of Kenwood. The winery notes: "It consistently produces wonderfully dark, almost blueberry like fruit. With cool mornings that lead to hot afternoons, we take extra care to manage the canopy for optimal flavors, while protecting the fruit from too much sun exposure that can wreck havoc during the early stages of berry formation and subsequent ripening."
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature Series Reserve is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Ripe plums, cassis, tobacco, and chalky minerality all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful tannins, and a rich, concentrated, yet surprisingly graceful and balanced style. This big, sexy, hedonistic bomb of a wine should evolve for 15 years or more." 95 points The Wine Independent: "A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 C...

A great little value in California Cabernet. With huge price increases taking their toll, many folks are looking south from Napa Valley to source hight quality fruit and Paso Robles at more reasonable price points. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A consistently perfect wine every time I've had it, the 2009 Château Pontet-Canet is the greatest wine from this address to date as well as one of the greatest Pauillacs out there. Still youthfully ruby/purple and with a gorgeous perfume of blackcurrants, lead pencil, graphite, crushed rocks, and damp earth, it's still youthful but is just now starting to show more nuance and complexity. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I obviously underrated the 2016 Château Haut-Bailly on release, and it easily tops out my scale. A hypothetical blend of the 2009 and 2010, it has the opulence and sexiness of a ripe, sunny vintage (à la 2009) paired with incredible purity, concentration, structure, and elegance (à la 2010). Incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, cedar pencil, flowers, and minerals give way to a full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered Haut-Bailly offering ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, nothing out of place, and the class t...

94 points John Gilman: "The 2018 vintage of CVC is composed from a cépages of forty-one percent merlot, twenty-four percent cabernet sauvignon, twenty percent cabernet franc, nine percent petit verdot and six percent malbec. The wine comes in at 14.1 percent octane this year and offers up a beautifully refined nose of black cherries, cassis, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, gentle notes of menthol, a bit of cigar ash and a very discreet framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and nicely sappy at the core, with excellent...
99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Beautiful notes of pure crème de cassis and darker currants, scorched earth, graphite, smoke tobacco, and toasty oak give way to a full-bodied, flawlessly balanced Cabernet with lots of underlying structure, rock star concentration, and the tight, inward, yet impressive style that's common in 2018. Showing more and more minerality with time in the glass, it shuts down relatively quickly and is a wine for the long haul. Do your best to hide bottles for 4-5 years, if not longer, and it should evolve for 30+ years or more." (01/2021)...

This is a single vineyard Cabernet from Dos Robles Vineyard in the El Pomar sub-region of Paso Robles. The vines were planted in 1994 and are really in their prime at 25 years of age. The vines are planted a steep hillside with slopes up to a 30% grade. A very small production of just 10 barrels (250 cases) were made. The wine aged for 18 months in 40% new French and American oak, with the remainder in neutral barrels. This is big, powerful, inky Paso Robles Cabernet with great structure and length on the palate.

It boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious notes of spring flowers, blackberries, black raspberries and wet rocks. The wine’s gravelly minerality and spectacular opulence and density make it an instant classic. … It showed incredibly well last year, and it still reveals the potential to possibly merit a 3-digit score – it’s that special. Not to be confused with Château d'Issan or its second wine, Blason d'Issan, this awesome value (from the vintage Jancis Robinson suggests might Bordeaux's best ever) actually hails from a different vineyard than these other d'Issan's. And while this is labelled and sold as Bordeaux Supérieur, it is nonetheless under the outstanding d'Issan umbrella (the 2019 grand vin got 96 points from Jane Anson).
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This deeply colored, extremely ripe and concentrated wine from a cooler part of Napa Valley is powerful but smooth, as a creamy texture carries blueberries, cocoa and anise flavors wrapped in significant fine-grained tannins. The flavors show great depth on the palate and good length on the finish. *Cellar Selection* (JG)" (10/2022) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of red and black currants, gravel and plums.
