Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Hall "Kathryn Hall" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 95WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is largely sourced from their Sacrashe Vineyard. The color is dense ruby/purple. The wine is very young, and less evolved than many of its peers, but bursting with potential. Lots of blueberry and black raspberry fruit with a hint of mocha and background oak are all present in this full-bodied, opulent, absolutely spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a long-distance runner, although not so much because of the tannic structure, because the fruit seems younger and more primary than some of its siblings. Nevertheless, it is loaded with potential promise, and as Kathryn Hall says so frequently, 'Magic.' This full-bodied, classic Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa should hit its prime in 4-5 years and last at least two decades or more. (RP) 97+" (10/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also offering off-the-charts richness, with a flamboyant, hedonistic profile, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc) possesses spice-laced aromas and flavors of cassis, smoke tobacco, roasted meats, dried licorice and wild herbs that are to die for. Full-bodied, incredibly layered, rich and textured it has no hard edges, masses of tannin and a finish that won’t quit. I’ve been lucky enough to taste this cuvée three times (rated 96 and 97) in the past handful of weeks and this was the best showing yet. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. It was aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months. The alcohol weighed in at 14.5%. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with bold expressions of warm cassis, wild blueberries and black raspberries, plus hints of chocolate box, menthol, tapenade, smoked meats and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is bursting with vibrant black fruits, framed by fantastically ripe, fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. Jeb Dunnuck: "From a vintage loved by the estate (they consider 2015 more California in style and 2014 more Bordeaux-like), the 2014 Estate Cuvee State Lane Vineyard is another beautiful wine from Kapcsandy. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot brought up in 80% new French oak, it offers an elegant, seamless style as well as classic Cabernet note of blackcurrants, spice-box, dried earth-like minerality and background oak. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the southeastern AVA Coombsville in the Vaca Mountains, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from white tufa and decomposed red volcanic sedimentary soils. For whatever reason, it seems that people who buy from this vineyard make better wine than the actual owners, which I'm sad to say, is not exactly what proprietors Tom and Frank Farella would like to hear. This is a terrific Cabernet Sauvignon made from clones 4 and 8, offering a rich nose of blackberries, dark earth, a touch of barrique, and some baking spices. The wine is rich, full-bodied, tannic and backward. Deep and super-concentrated, it needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, but should last another 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2015)

Vinous: "What a thrill it is to revisit the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, a wine that has delivered on all the potential I sensed back when I first tasted it from barrel nearly a decade ago. Time flies. In the glass, the 2010 is dark, heady and rich, with striking aromatic nuance and tons of complexity. Unctuous dark fruit, grilled herbs, cloves and licorice build into the intense, exotic finish. It is a classic Philip Togni wine at its first plateau of maturity. In 2010 the harvest took place entirely in October. Because of the cold growing season, the crop was thinned significantly in order to allow for the fruit to ripen. Raspberry jam, rose petals, savory herbs and mint, all come together beautifully in the glass. The tannins are going to need a few years to soften, but the 2011 continues to develop very nicely in bottle. This is a very strong showing, especially within the context of the year. The 2011 is dark and even a bit rough round the edges, particularly when tasted alongside the surrounding vintages. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by gorgeously complex aromas of melted chocolate, espresso roast, blackberries, and cassis. Full-bodied with a superb texture, a subtle note of oak, and fabulous concentration, it is more reminiscent of a Right Bank Bordeaux than one expects with this much Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Classic Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, licorice and minerals, plus a whiff of cassis bud. Densely packed but also wonderfully juicy, with its dark berry, espresso and crushed rock flavors lifted by a spice element. This comes across as sweeter than the 2011 Roberta's, with its more complete integration of acids and tannins suggesting greater phenolic ripeness. The 2011 doesn't disappoint, with notes of black plum and currant fruit dusted with allspice and vanilla and chocolate shavings that continue from the nose to the palate, which is silky, fruit-filled and framed by refined tannins.

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Ovid Experiment "C4.6" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. Winemaker's notes: "Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon has a long and mysterious history here in California. It originally arrived in Napa Valley from Mendoza, Argentina in 1964. How it made its way to South America is still unclear, presumably with French winemakers who were leaving Bordeaux in the late 1800s as phylloxera was devastating the region. Arriving mislabeled as Merlot, its storied past was off to an intriguing start. Clone 4 was fairly quickly recognized as Cabernet Sauvignon and has been viewed as an excellent selection ever since. Intrigued by the mysterious combination of clone and site, we find this single selection of Cabernet offers a dense nose of fresh blackberry, cassis, black cherry, cola and dark chocolate. Rich and burnished, this particular expression is utterly delicious."

Bid on this bottle of 1977 Diamond Creek "Gravelly Meadow" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91JG). John Gilman: "For a drought year wine, the 1977 Gravelly Meadow from Diamond Creek is evolving very well and is already drinking quite well in the classic, rather austere style of this fine property. Customary to the house style here, the complexity on both the nose and palate on this wine are exemplary, but it does not deliver the same core of sweet fruit found in a wine such as the ’77 Heitz Fay Vineyard for instance. But depth and complexity it has in spades, as it offers up a fine mélange of dark berries, a touch of black raspberry, stony soil tones, a bit of bell pepper, some stemmy notes, woodsmoke and a delicate topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and complex, with fine mid-palate depth, still a bit of tannin to resolve and fine length and grip on the slightly austere finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 'Schrader' label comes from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard in Oakville, produced from clone 4 grown on the C2 block. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud French oak barrels for 18 months. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard has a wonderfully perfumed nose of potpourri, baking spices and dusty soil over a core of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and flamboyant Indian spices. Full-bodied, super firm with super ripe tannins and lovely freshness, it delivers layer upon layer of black fruit preserves and exotic spices, finishing long and beautifully poised. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot from 21 different lots from 11 different vineyards, the 2016 The Bard is very deep purple-black in color and sashays out of the glass with strikingly beautiful violets, warm cassis, star anise and chocolate mint notes with hints of wood smoke, tobacco and kirsch, with blackberry compote at the core. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1975 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99DC, 97JG, 93VN). Decanter: "I have nothing but admiration for Heitz Cellar, and writing a profile on them this year gave me an excuse to try a number of bottles of their wines. While the 1974 Martha’s Vineyard tends to win all the attention, the 1975 also clearly ranks as one of the most thrilling Napa Cabernets produced during the 20th century, and I really like the wine’s tension and reserve. Complex aromatics of red and black fruit, cedarwood, dried rose and cocoa are followed by a powerful, beautifully balanced wine with a firm core of tannin, fruit and fresh acids. A few hours in the decanter really help this still-youthful Cabernet expatiate. To my palate, this could go head to head with the handful of great wines produced in Bordeaux in 1975 such as La Mission Haut Brion and Pétrus. (WK)" (01/2017)
