This beautiful cask of Blair Athol is truly the star of our 2023 campaign. We rarely get access to such exceptional old malt and if you've been following the K&L Exclusives, this will easily compare to the wonderful 25 year Cragganmore we sold last year. The Blair Athol malt is an absolute dream and when you put it into high quality casks, it can produce one of the Highland's most complex and delicious whiskies. Founded in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson, it changed hands many times until eventually being mothballed in 1932. IT was after that t...

This well aged single malt comes to us under a discontinued independent label, but it was sourced from a blue chip Highland distillery many years ago. Unfortunately we aren't allowed to explicitly share the producers name here, but you might rightly deduce that any distillery with enough old juice to sell at this kind of price is one of the big boys. One walk through this Scottish valley and you'll definitely want mo'e of it at this price. Comparable bottlings from the distillery, when they declare a particular vintage bottling as Grand, regularly approa...

This special onetime pricing on Speyburn's Arranta should not be missed. Toffee, vanilla, and spice dominate the profile of this USA exclusive bottling that comes from first fill ex-Bourbon casks and is bottled at 46% ABV. The classic Speyside distillery still uses wormtubs in its production and this leads to a full and rich spirit, perfectly matched to 1st first Bourbon casks.

This unprecedented cask of Ardmore is as unusual as it is delicious. The famous Highland peater was built at Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire in 1898. The spiritual home of the once popular Teacher's Highland Cream, its original owner was in fact the son of the founder of that brand, Adam Teacher. One of the last distillers to use coal to fire their stills, this barrel was distilled prior to their transition to gas in 2001. It boasts the ability to produce nearly 5.5 million liters of pure alcohol a year with 8 working stills. Nearly all of that is made with h...

The lovely Auchroisk distillery has been a favorite of blenders and independent bottlers alike since its founding in 1972. It offers consistently delicious creamy Speyside character, a wonderful base malt to build a blend around. The distillery in Mulben has also been used for vatting of the J&B Highland malts before blending at the main J&B facility to the south. We've had many wonderful Auchroisk over the years and we've managed to keep the prices unreasonably low on these lovely casks. This one was filled into an old sherry butt in 2010 and bottled at...

It seems like forever since we've had 20+ year old blue chip distilleries on the docket for a reasonable price. It's getting harder and harder to secure these casks, and this one is a veritable coup. Distilled in June of 2000 and bottled in October of 2022, this 22 year old beauty is finally on our shores. Aged in a refill Hogshead, this is all about the spirit and time. Elegant, leathery, briny, sweet barley, and chock full of that lovely peat that only really comes with long years in cask. Bottled without chill filtration or coloring at its natural cas...

We dreamed for years of creating a delicious, interesting expression of blended Scotch whisky that we could feature under our Faultline label at a value driven price. We were close many times, but either the quality of the whisky or the cost of the barrels proved prohibitive. We didn't want to make a $25 bottle of whisky just for the sake of it. After working on and off with our bottler for over a year-long blending process, we hammered out a profile we were finally happy with. Big smoke, Ardbeg-like peat flavors, and a kiss of sweet grain was our goal, ...

*One time pricing - when this deal is gone, it's gone forever* Named in honour of the world-class Salmon fishing found on the superbly clean waters of the River Spey, Bradan Orach, Gaelic for ‘Golden Salmon’ is a gloriously bright single malt scotch whisky that is a delightfully classic whisky. Matured in American White Oak ex-bourbon casks that lend a subtle vanilla flavour to the dram. It has rich malt tones and great body and weight under a layer of sweet fruit. Normally priced around $30, this is a steal on the old school packaging. When they moderni...

The beauty of the Thompson Brothers is that they're willing to take risks. This offering is indeed a risky proposition for a bottler, the very reason the big guys were willing to let it go. On paper it reads like a very expensive blended scotch. But why add an age statement, when a 12-year-old Johnnie Walker is a fraction of the price? The age statement tells the entire story here and our friends at Dornoch care little for artificial labels and quality statements, all they care about is getting damn good whisky into your glass for an incredible price. So...

This is the Thompson Brothers foray into the world of blending. It's also proof that they've got some of the absolute best palates in the business. They seem to be getting access to stocks were others struggle and this little vatting of over 8 year old malts is one of the most intriguing and delicious malts on our shelves at any price point. SRV5 refers to Station Road Vat 5, the wooden vessel where this whisky is mingled before bottling. The Dornoch boys bottle in very small batches and the source material is of the highest quality. While the specifics ...

There's no amount of Caol Ila that we're not interested in. This wonderful distillery on the northern shore of Islay remains one of the great values for independent bottlers. The gorgeous maritime character and medium peat style is an approachable way into the Islay category, but isn't in the slightest bit too tame for seasoned peat lover. The old distillery was founded in 1846 overlooking the Islay Strait for which its name. Across from the distillery the majestic paps of Jura sit calmly in the distance. Considering the incredible volumes this distiller...

Released in July of 2014 to celebrate OPs maritime hertiage and entry in the 2013-14 Clipper Round The World Yacht Race. Old Pulteney made just 2,700 cases of this limited edition bottling. Weridly a some cases resurfaced in a deep warehouse dive at the importer. Old Pulteney has long been a favorite of the store and this bottling is excellent, so we jumped at the chance to bring it back onto our shelf (and at 50% off of the original price in 2014 to boot!) Bottled at a robust 46% ABV this bottling features malt aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Th...

The old distillery just to the north of Port Askaig was founded in 1881. It's become one of the best loved Islay malts, despite its normally gentle character. We've had several lovely casks of naked Bunnah over the last few years, but this one truly stands out. The great northern Islay distiller is renowned for capturing that ocean character without relying on heavy peat smoke. In fact, the distillery makes sure to note that their whisky contain less than 2 ppm of phenol, making it one of two regularly produced unpeated Islay malts, but this little whisk...

The gorgeous Benriach distillery is one of Speyside's most unique. The distillery, built in 1898, was promptly purchased and shuttered by nearby Longmorn Distillers and remained silent for many decades. It was purchased in 1965 by the Glenlivet Co. and refurbished before being sold to Seagram's in the late '70s. It was always a hub of experimentation and remains filled with crazy expressions and unusual cask fills, with both peated and floor malted versions. It's rather rare to see independently bottled Benriach, but it seems Alistair Hart's relationship...

If you didn't already know, we're huge fans of the bucolic Blair Athol distillery just outside the highland resort town of Pitlochry. The stone walls covered in ivy at this, the spiritual home of the Bell's Blended Scotch, are one reason we love this exceptional whisky. If you do manage to make it to this special distillery, you might notice giddy septuagenarian fans of the UK only Bell's Blend swarming the small distillery like it was vatican, but it is the VIP warehouse tour that keeps us going back. That's because nothing beats Blair Athol straight fr...

A rare independently bottled Aberlour, made that much more unusual by its maturation in a first fill sherry butt. The Aberlour distillery sits on the edge of its namesake, a gorgeous little hamlet right at the center of the Speyside region. The distillery seems tiny from the outside, but the malt here packs a punch. Founded in 1879 by James Fleming, it's become a pillar of the Chivas family in the last two decades since the French spirits giant Pernod Ricard purchased the distillery. Outfitted with 4 stills in the early 70s, it can produce nearly 4 milli...

It's comical to think Laphroaig is charging $350 for their official bottling single casks that are 7 years old! We obvioulsy passed on that because we are still finding exceptional gems like this. Here we have a 10 year old for just $90! All that big bombastic peat and iodine in a classic ex-Bourbon cask giving the balaced vanilla and creamy malt center stage. At 53.5% ABV and without coloring or chill filtration, this is surely one of the best ways to add more of Islay's Southern shore to your life.

This little find comes from an undisclosed distillery on the Isle of Islay. While the bottler is prohibited from confirming the source, the whisky world seems to be pretty confident that this single malt came from the special distillery on the south side of the island. This distillery, which boasts its own malt floors, seven stills and one of the most flavorful spirits in the business is widely considered the King of Islay. The wild ocean character and deep peaty richness is the key here. Add an unbeatable price, 50% ABV, and we've got your newly minted ...

This perfect cask of Caol Ila from the excellent Glasgow blender and bottler Hart Brothers is the first Islay cask that they've yet to furnish K&L exclusively. Filled into a high-quality hogshead, this famously ocean-y peater is in full form here. Full bodied and intense, the weighty mouth feel is contrasted by the tangy seaside character. We rarely come across young Caol Ila that's not excellent, but occasionally we are happy to encounter some that are truly superlative. This is obviously in the latter category.

This exceptional single cask was sold to this bottler as the "Williamson" blended malt and therefore cannot include the source on the label. But we have no problem telling you that this excellent whisky was distilled on the famous little stills located just outside the little seaside town of Port Ellen. Adorned in the throwback label, the Thompson Brothers, are clearly giving the old nudge nudge wink wink to the famous old bottling from nearly a century ago, with block letters and cursive writing. Filled into a used sherry butt in 2010, this excellent ca...

While there seems to be no shortage of Orkney malt on the market, there is a serious dearth of it at screaming good prices. For just 80 bucks this famous Ornkey distillery at cask strength and a respectable 14 years is a heck of a deal. Aged in a refill hogshead this shows off that beautiful heathery peat that the distillery is famous for. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.7% and without coloring or chill filtration.

This cask stands out for its harmony and balance, aged in an ex-bourbon hogshead it is all about the balance between malt and wood, sea and smoke, aged to perfection.

It has been quite some time since we've had an official Highland Park Single Cask straight from the distillery and we are thrilled to offer this at the sharpest pricing we've seen in the program in years. This epic first fill full sized European oak sherry butt delivers a massive Orkeny experience at a whopping 66.1% ABV. The jewel of the Orkney Islands is famous for its heather peat offering a gentle floral toned smoke and its impeccable use of sherry maturation, both are on full display here.

The wonderful Auchroisk distillery is one of Speyside's truly unsung heroes. Often filled into subpar casks, intended only for blending, its unique character can still shine through even when the wood is lacking. Add a great, high-quality barrel and you've got a recipe for a gem. The fact that it's so affordable shouldn't scare off the more discerning malt nuts out there. We're the lucky beneficiaries of some outstanding relationships in Scotland, which has afforded us unparalleled access and pricing in the market. The Auchroisk distillery is relatively...

Benriach is quickly becoming one of the most attractive names in Scotch. They've won some huge awards, particularly for their slightly smoky 12 year old expression designed by the illustrious Rachel Barrie. Rachel is extremely adept at developing products that offer nuance and complexity, while not compromising on flavor. What we don't see much out of most distilleries these days are LOUD whiskies - ones that step up and shout at you. And while we don't always want to be screamed at, it's impossible to deny the thrilling feeling of getting packed into a ...

The concept of building a new distillery in this remote place isn't straightforward, but founder Anderson "Burr" Bakewell believed the unique feel of this special island could be captured—quite literally—in a bottle. The rare and elusive spirit of the Isle of Harris, which had historically drawn a special type of soul to it, was dwindling. The population slowly diminished, drawn away by modernity and the promise of prosperity on the mainland. Burr Bakewell gathered a group of like-minded individuals, who believed that the Isle still had much to give it...

From Cutty Sark: The expression is matured over 12 years in carefully selected Bourbon and Sherry Casks. Then the Whisky goes through a marrying process. Allowing it to be filtered at a higher temperature to retain smooth flavours. “Aged for 12 years in hand selected oak casks and with notes of dried and tropical fruits, spice, cloves, ginger and a subtle hint of sea salt, CUTTY SARK 12 Blended Scotch Whisky pays tribute to the ship’s many anchor points and its long, proud maritime history.”

The casks are custom built and prepared by Firkin, and are a unique combination of ex-bourbon barrel and charred French oak staves. They are built into "zebra" casks of alternating stave types, then the cask is seasoned with a custom sherry blend made specifically for the whisky that will be going into the cask. Wine Enthusiast: "Although the “Botanist” name might suggest a floral gin, instead the flavor profile veers toward herbs and spices. There’s a subtle, herbal scent, with anise flavors up front, backed by coriander seed and cassia bark on the spicy finish. Highland Park's single casks are simply some of the finest OB single cask bottlings in all of Scotland. Released in Summer 2023, this California exclusive cask yielded only 515 bottles. After maturing for nearly two decades in a first-fill sherry seasoned European oak butt, the whisky was bottled in 2022. Whisky Advocate: "After six ‘Work in Progress’ releases, Kilkerran from Glengyle Distillery has finally come of age with this core expression. It comprises 70% whisky from first-fill bourbon casks and 30% from sherry casks. Floral on the nose, with honey and a hint of brine, then peaty fruit notes develop. The palate is confident and oily, slightly earthy, with tinned peaches, black pepper, cinnamon, smoke, and a suggestion of medicine chests. The finish is relatively long, with pepper, licorice, and drying oak. (GS, Winter 2016)" K&L Notes: When the do...

The palate is equally out there, with old-fashioned fabric Band-Aids, bladderwrack seaweed, black pepper, smoldering peat, vanilla, caramel, and sweet oak. The finish is as big as everything else, with barbecue, iodine, and asphalt. Still a classic! Whisky Advocate: "This expression was distilled in 2003 and after undergoing a period of finishing in amoroso sherry casks it was bottled in 2014. Fleeting green apples on the nose, before sweetening with figs, sultanas, red berries, and chili. Peat smoke finally makes its presence felt. Full-bodied on the palate, with spicy smoke, dark chocolate, peaches, and Jaffa orange; the additional fruitiness courtesy of the amoroso cask influence.
