93 points Decanter: "Another crowd-pleasing wine from Weston Eidson, who cut his teeth working alongside Napa's Jason Moore and Russell Bevan. This blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec is sourced from Oakville and Yountville AVAs and was aged in 50% new French oak barrels. Medium to deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. It showcases the warmth and generosity of Napa's 2022 vintage in an incredibly satisfying package, leading with enticing aromas of vanilla-laced boysenberry fruit scented with lilac floral and sweet baking spice...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This aromatic, textural and complex wine shows classic Pinot Noir scents of cherries, cloves and dark herbs, while revealing ample black cherries, sour cherries and an earthy, forest floor effect on the palate. It's a singular wine with a firm acid and tannin structure for pairing with food. Best through 2030." K&L Notes: Note from the producer: "Drive started as a home winemaking project in a former mechanics garage. We focus on micro-production wines, representing independently-owned vineyards from premier regions of Sonoma...

92 points James Suckling: " Tart red fruit on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins and outstanding balance. The palate displays dusty red fruit with dried flowers and mineral notes on the finish." (03/2024) 92 points Vinous: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Un is remarkably pretty, with a lifted blend of dusty rose and violet pastille accentuating dried strawberries. This model of purity is lifted and refined with crisp red and blue fruits swirling across a stream of brisk acidity. The 2022 leaves a coating of fine...

95 points Decanter: "This is a wonderful wine from Grand Vent, Cleary Ranch, the Michael Valentine vineyard from the Freestone Valley, and a Laguna vineyard that supplies the Swann clone. Red and black fruits are concentrated with stem inclusion, giving the wine a tremendous savoury backbone. The palate is redolent of cloves, red berries, and early-season black plums. La Rinconada was planted in the mid-1990s directly adjacent to Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. The soils are oceanic in origin, Monterey shale and diatomaceous earth that seems to impart a distinctive minerality in the wines. The region is heavily influenced by cold winds off the Pacific Ocean that moderates temperatures and reduces vigor and yields from the vines making for very intensely flavored fruit. This small production wine, typically only sold at the winery and to mailing list customers offers a chance to taste world-class, single vineyard Chardonn...

93 points Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cuvee Alis Estate Vineyard is a blend of 51% Grenache, 19% Syrah, 17% Mourvedre, 12% Petite Sirah and 1% Viognier. The nose sings of preserved Morello cherries, mulberries, fruitcake and Chinese five spice with touches of potpourri, black pepper and licorice. Full-bodied, rich and decadently fruited, the palate provides a solid structure of firm, velvety tannins and tons of freshness to lift all that opulent fruit to a very long, spicy finish. 95 points Decanter: "The 2022 Chardonnay is a younger vine old Wente clone, and older vine clone 4, the California Chardonnay clone. Variability in cluster size and weight gives a nice texture to the Chardonnay. The "black chardonnay" technique helps the wine become ageable early, aged on fine lees, 25% new barriques, 7.5 months. A gorgeous example of Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that leans into lemon curd and leans away from a reductive style honeyed ginger spices the wine's finish just a touch. (CP)" (02/2024) 94 points James Suckling: "Lots of phenolic t...

95 points The Wine Independent: "Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Melange Rouge has a profound nose of red and black cherries, violets, and dark chocolate with underlying licorice, Sichuan pepper, smoked meats, and tar. The medium to full-bodied palate is lively and vibrant - pop-rocks in your mouth - with lots of texture interest combining plush and chewy, and bright and lifted fruit leading to a peppery finish. 94 points Descorchados : "Auténtico is from a selection of vineyards that Colomé has around its winery in the Colomé zone, some 2,300 meters above sea level. It was not barrel aged, just steel tanks and concrete eggs for 10 months, this shows the character or, better, Colomé's vision of its high-altitude terroir in the middle of the Andes. This is a wine full of ripe, red fruits, deep flavors, and dense textures accompanied by tense acidity that marks the character of this tremendous high-altitude wine." Bright, clear crimson; a perfumed, red-fruited, spiced bouquet lights the way, the palate making off with this opening by adding high-quality tannins. 93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Red Wine is a total pleasure on the nose, leading off with a burst of crushed blueberries, peppery herbs and rosy florals. This soothes with its soft, pliant textures, as a contrasting blend of saline minerals and ripe wild berry fruits swirls throughout. The 2018 keeps the energy high. The mouth waters for more as violet inner florals and hints of licorice fade. This is almost too easy to like. It’s beautifully balanced. Initially more reticent and Burgundian, this polished Syrah was aged in 60% new French oak before bottling. The wine shows beautiful red rose petals, nori, smoldering stones and orange blossom. Readers will find a Lytton Springs that is very much in reserve, as opposed to the rest of the 2021s in this report, all of which are more approachable. Salivating acids and veins of tannin lend shape and persistence, but the 2021 needs time. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, rose petal and sage are some of the notes that linger on the close. Boutique winery Vinoce continues to impress. Little surprise when you consider their wines are made by much-heralded winemaker Keith Emerson of Vineyard 29! This Champagne comes from a very special plot in Monthelon, just behind the Le Brun house on a southeast facing slope. It is entirely Meunier, half of which was planted in 1952 and the other half in 1902; the oldest living vines that I have seen in Champagne. The village of Monthelon is in the Côteaux de Sud Épernay, one of the coldest microclimates in Champagne, and that cold climate, in tandem with these ancient vines, has given us a truly epic wine. Alex’s craft has added to this — he uses a combination of small oak and large foudres for this wine alo...
