1946 Bodegas Toro Albala "Don PX Convento Selección" Pedro Ximénez Jerez (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultra-mega-super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful, both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol, lemongrass, Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and...

2011 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Very ripe with plum, spice and dried-flower aromas, as well as chocolate, fresh flowers and sandalwood. Coffee and hints of meat. Sort of decadent. Full-bodied with round, creamy tannins and an intense, juicy feel. Unique cedar and walnut undertones. So delicious now, but one for the future, too. (JS)" (09/2020) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Unico released in 2021, 10 years after the harvest, is the 2011 Unico, selected from 40 of their 210 hectares of vineyards. 2011 is a concentrated and ripe vintage, and th...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1981 Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva has a vibrant nose reminiscent of coeval Burgundy, with scents of citrus peel, orange rind, singed leather and a Tuscan delicatessen. The palate has a penetrating orange peel and tart cherry entry with potent earthy notes at its core. It is supremely well-balanced with an energetic finish underpinned by crisp dry tannins. This wonderful Rioja is drinking perfectly now and will age effortlessly. (NM)" (08/2012) 93 points Vinous: "Light red. Strawberry, dried cherry, vanilla, ...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Valbuena was produced with a blend of 94% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 6% Merlot from 140 hectares dedicated to this wine. It fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the first year it matured in barrels (75% French, 25% American) and the second year in large oak vats. This is again a floral and elegant vintage of Valbuena, very much in line with what has happened in the best vintages since 2010. 2016 is going to be a wine that the public is going to like; it has an extroverted personality and is perfumed a...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lightly baked and hinting at raisin and fine herbs, the bouquet on this benchmark Spanish red enfolds aromas of tobacco, moss and ripe tomato. In the mouth, it’s elegant and silky but also full and expansive. Flavors of baked berry fruits, baking spices, herbs and cocoa finish with a light coating of toast. This is an amazingly complete, exemplary wine that’s just entering its prime. If past vintages of Unico are an indication, it will age well through 2035. (MS)" (05/2015) 97 points Decanter: "Recommended by Jasper Morris M...

97 points James Suckling: "Berry, smoke, violet and sandalwood aromas follow through to a full, layered palate that shows super polished tannins that are caressing and long. It’s tight and very long. Give it two or three years to soften. Drink after 2023. " (08/2021) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Único is released 10 years after the harvest. They produced it with the grapes from 40 of the 210 hectares of vineyards they have, with a total of 55 separate plots and 19 different soils. It's mostly 95% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 5% Ca...

96 points James Suckling: "This shows wonderful aromas of blackberries, violets and sandalwood with vanilla undertones. Full-bodied with racy tannins and gorgeous fruit. Linear and very long. Slightly chewy. Needs time to come together, but already excellent quality. Drink after 2023." (08/2021) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2017 was marked by the frost of the night between April 27 and 28 that Vega Sicilia fought with their anti-frost towers. The end of the season was warm, and the overall rain was low, 235 liters. The 2017 Valbuena is mar...

Full and velvety body with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious fresh and fruity finish. Classic Rioja style. Que lindo!" (10/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Pintia Toro (95JS, 95RP, 94DC, 93VN, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pintia had already been bottled when I tasted it, although not released. The bouquet is very Bordeaux-like with black rather than red fruit, fine minerality and touches of graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with plump, rounded tannins, a firm structure and great precision on the finish. This is what you might call a 'classic' Pintia that already demonstrates great breeding and sophistication toward the finish. (NM)" (04/2013)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (OWC - 100JS, 98RP, 97VN, 97W&S, 96WE, 95DC, 94WS) in original wood. James Suckling: "Incredibly floral and beautiful with dark berry, spice, cedar and mint. Chinese plums. Asian spices. Bark. Tea. Full body, dense and so soft and complex. The finish goes on for minutes. Endless and fine. January 2017 release. This reminds me of the gorgeous 1991 or 1964. Drink forever. A wine that you want to spend time with." (01/2018)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1989 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja (93VN). Vinous: "Medium red. Maturing Burgundy aromas of plum, dried cherry, loam and milk chocolate, plus a whiff of coconut. Big, rich and sweet, with huge palate presence; flavors of plum, bitter chocolate and coconut are given clarity by ripe, integrated acidity. Lovely sweet finishing flavors stain the palate. Very impressive. (ST)" (09/1998)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja (98JS, 96RP, 96WE, 95DC). James Suckling: "Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now, or hold for a very long time." (07/2019)
Starting Bid: $260.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Bodegas J. A. Calvo Casajús "Nic" Ribera del Duero (97RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Casajus NIC is the top wine, sourced from a single 1.5 hectare plot that yielded less than 2,500 kilogram per hectare (NIC, by the way, is the abbreviation of Nicolas and Catalina, Jose Alberto’s children.) It is raised in new 500-liter Allier barrels over 18 months. It has a very intense nose of raspberry, fresh strawberry, maraschino and blood orange that effortlessly embraces the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte, succulent tannins, the oak playing a complementary role (in my opinion, the use of larger barrels moderating their influence.) It is struck through with outstanding acidity and wonderful minerality toward the finish. It shimmers in the mouth: so much purity you want to cry. (NM)" (02/2013)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I posted the eternal question about 2004 versus 2005 when tasting the 2004 Prado Enea. Instead of answering the question, they reached for a bottle of the 2005 Prado Enea Gran Reserva to check what is happening. The nose is almost as young and undeveloped as the 2004, but it's on the palate where I see that the 2005 shows a little more polish and is perhaps a little less complete than the 2004. (LG)" (02/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (95RP, 94WS, 93VN, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "They have kept 2005 and 2006 for now, and they are releasing the 2007 Único from a lighter vintage that is accessible already; they will even sell 2008 before 2005 and 2006. 2007 was a cold vintage in Ribera and it produced lighter, fresher wines (perhaps not as problematic as 2008, but there was also frost in 2007). The wine might be a tad lighter than other vintages, but it's more structured than 2008; it combines elegance and power, is nicely balanced and should be able to develop in bottle for many years. (LG)" (10/2015)
Starting Bid: $550.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Clos Mogador, Priorat ((94-96RP), 96WE, 94VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rene Barbier (Junior) kindly put together a blend of the five barrels that will go to constitute the 2010 Clos Mogador. It has a stricter, fresher bouquet than the 2009, with great minerality and sparkling precision. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and wonderful purity. It exhibits notes of dark cherries, crushed stone, slate and touches of thyme and white pepper towards the finish, which has immense precision and focus. This is going to be a razor-sharp Clos Mogador – do not wait to place your order!Clos Mogador needs no introduction. Rene Barbier was a pupil of Jean-Claude Berrouet and is one of the 'founding fathers' in Priorat as part of the 'Gratallops group.' I met him for the first time at his home, located at the bottom of a never-ending winding dirt track and surrounded by vines. . (NM)" (04/2012)
