2017 La Massa "La Massa" Toscana
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A plush red with sweet-berry and spice aromas and flavors. Hints of vanilla. Full body. Lush and delicious. Needs a little time to come together, but already very attractive." (07/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beautiful and seamless, the 2017 La Massa beats the heat. There is little sign of a warm vintage in this blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon plus Alicante Bouschet. The wine turned out terrifically bright and nuanced with its light spice and blackberry notes. Present it along...

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. " (10/2019) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of fragrant purple flower, crushed mint and woodland berry mingle with a whiff of dark spice. Mirroring the nose, the linear palate shows sour cherry, orange zest, star anise and a smoky note alongside dusty tannins and fr...

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
94 points International Wine Review: "The 2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino begins with a gorgeous aromatic profile of cherries, orange zest, grapefruit juice and fresh ginger which all come together beautifully in this young Brunello. On the palate this is medium-to full-bodied, structured with soft, round tannins and a precise finish that is solid and compact. This will be accessible young but should develop also nicely with some short-term cellaring and drink beautifully for years to come. RV" (03/2020) 94 points James Suckling: "Quite und...

91 points Decanter: "Richly aromatic with apple and lemon curd notes. A soft, well-integrated mousse is complemented by notes of lemon sherbet. Blind tasted by Fabio Giavedoni, Andy Howard MW, Alessandra Piubello (at The Institute of Masters of Wine, 29 Nov 2018) " (11/2018) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth and fresh, this has delicate scents of wild flower, lemon and a whiff of crushed herb. On the bright, creamy palate, crisp acidity and a polished, foaming mousse offset green apple, white peach and citrus zest. (KO) " (12/2017) K&L Notes: San V...

Sorelle Bronca Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Extra Dry
Top Pick!
The Bronca sisters grow their own fruit on steep hillside vineyards, then make base wine and perform the secondary (sparkling) fermentation on non-vintage batches three or four times a year to ensure freshness. Low yields and hillside-grown fruit ensure that the wine has good concentration and acidity. This one's a clean, crisp and utterly refreshing sparkler that is one of our favorites.

2019 Il Bianco Veneto
Top Pick!
This year has been really difficult for Italian producers, restaurants, where most wine is sold in Italy have been closed or partially open. So, for producers, the local market has dried up. I know a producer whose winery was still full of wine but he needed the tank space for the new vintage. He decided (I was very skeptical, by the way) to blend all of his white wines together and sell it all at a tremendous loss (the whites normally sell in the $25-$30 range) just to empty his cellar. I should not have been so skeptical. The wine is predominantly Pino...

91 points James Suckling: "A beautiful, fruity red with aromas and flavors of cherries, orange peel and hints of cedar. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a pretty core of fruit and a fresh, racy finish. " (06/2020)
Price: $15.99

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A nice surprise. Great density and richness with layers of dark fruit and spice. Thick concentration and a bold, confident presentation. Plush texture, length and density." (05/2012) 93 points James Suckling: "Dark fruit, with roses, incense and nutmeg on the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety and rich tannins and a long and delicious finish. Coffee bean and cedar undertone." (01/2012) K&L Notes: The first scent of this Brunello smells regal. There is a powerful statement of place and for Poggiarellino that is marasca cherry ...

93 points James Suckling: "Perfumed and fresh with cherries, cedar and hints of dried flowers. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a long, direct finish. Really lively and fresh. Very typical for a top Chianti Classico. " (05/2020) 92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Chianti Classico Berardenga is endowed with so much class. In 2018, the Classico is a bit more restrained than it can be. That mid-weight sense of structure, though, gives the wine quite a bit of early appeal. Even so, I would cellar the 2018 for a few years, as all the elements haven't fully...

The presitigous Jacopo Poli distillery, located in Schiavon outside of the city of Bassano del Grappa, is one of Italy's premier artisan distillery. While the distillery has made its name distilling ultra elegant and nuanced single varietal Grappa, it is this exceptional product that seperates them from some of Italy's other top producers. Indeed, this exceptional aged Grappa transcends the category completely. First distilled in 1989, an expression of Toni Poli's personal style as a distiller and lover of Grappa, only 9 barrique were produced each year....

2015 Carus Gaudio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with lots of chocolate, berry and wood character. Full and chewy. Yet, the tannins are not harsh or overdone." (09/2018)
Price: $29.99

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fragrant aromas of peach blossom, field flower and ripe white-stone fruit are front and center on the nose. The creamy, savory palate doles out ripe peach, yellow pear and lemon drop alongside bright acidity that gives it a tangy, mouthwatering close. *Editors’ Choice* (KO)" (08/2020)

2017 Tolaini "Al Passo" Toscana
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "A beautiful, ripe wine, offering plums and chocolate, as well as tile and walnuts. It’s full and layered with beautiful fruit and caressing tannins. Rock on." (07/2020) 92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Al Passo is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Open-knit and plaint, with soft curves, the 2017 offers tons of immediacy. Cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and macerated cherry all meld together in an inviting, mid-weight Tuscan red to drink over the next decade or so. (AG)" (09/2020) 91 points Robert Park...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Luigi Pira 2018 Barbera d'Alba Superiore offers a lush and rich bouquet with lots of dark fruit and blackberry. Background aromas include tilled earth, crushed stone and some blue flower or lilac. This is a pretty, mid-weight wine with vivid freshness. Fermentation finishes in stainless steel, and the wine ages in large oak casks made with Slavonian oak. Some 10,000 bottles were released. (ML)" (07/2020)

2015 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromas of roses and sliced plums with wet earth and truffles. Then turns to raspberries and blackberries. Cherries, too. Full and firm with super integrated tannins that melt into the wine. It flows from the center palate in a beautiful sheet of fruit and tannins. Extremely long and coated with great finesse. Goes on for minutes." (10/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Valdicava 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark and sultry wine with a beautiful presentation of aromas. This full-bodied Sangiovese...

98 points James Suckling: "A complex red with rose petals, violets, crushed stones and cherries follows through to a full body and chewy tannins that are poised and polished. Extremely long and intense. A top wine for the vintage. " (04/2018) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is opulent and powerful, offering black cherry, black currant, plum, leather, iron and tobacco flavors boosted by the racy acidity. Overall, this feels firm and complex, with a long finish. Not your typical style from the northern part of the Brunello di Montalcino zone, yet compell...

This has been the #1 selling Italian wine for more than two decades at K&L! You can't get that kind of continued success without a supremely fantastic quality-to-price ratio. The southern Tuscan coast is a wonderful location for winemaking, with stable temperatures and a solid history of quality, yet no fame and fortune. Incredibly priced bargains come out of the region, and the proof is in the bottle. This wine is wonderful, soft, forward and easy-to-drink Sangiovese with an enticing mixture of cherry, plum and earth. Eminently drinkable.

93 points James Suckling: "I like the minerality and spiciness of this blend of pinot bianco, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc with a medium to full body, creamy texture and lots of flavor at the finish. Some flint in the aftertaste. It’s compact and controlled." (08/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The lovely 2019 Alto Adige Terlaner Cuvée is fresh and buoyant with citrusy notes that are followed by wild sage, crushed stone, spicy saffron, toasted pine nut, Golden Delicious apple and crispy pear. The cuvée is a blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, ...

2015 Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino

97 points James Suckling: "This is a pure and beautiful Brunello with super fine and abundant tannins that are comprehensive and expansive. Builds on the palate. Full body. Round and firm with beautiful fruit and length. Lively and vivid. From organically grown grapes." (10/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, violet, underbrush and warm spice emerge in the glass, along with a whiff of camphor. Full bodied and enveloping, the structured palate delivers raspberry jam, dried black cherry, licorice and tobacco alongside fir...

Ettore Spina and his wife, Enrica Bandirola, owners of Sesta di Sopra, planted a new vineyard to Sangiovese in 2005. It has the same Galestro soils as the others, perfect for taming Sangiovese's natural vigor. Unfortunately, in Montalcino all of the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards are all registered and controlled, and they aren't allowing any more to be added right now, so the wine that comes from this new vineyard has to be designated an IGT (Indicates Geographic Tipicity). 94 points Decanter: "Excellence from a good co-op: fine, lifted, mineral-toned fruit joins crisp acidity and a long, savoury finish. (MG)" (03/2020) K&L Notes: Producer's notes: "It is the wine with which Belisario has experienced the greatest emotions. It was the first Verdicchio in the Riserva type. Produced since 1988 only with Verdicchio grapes vinified with the method of cryomaceration. It matures in steel and partly in toasted oak barrels for at least a year and is refined for another year in the bottle. The complexity of the production is the c...

2018 Tenuta di Sesta Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A delicious, fruity rosso with cherry, plum and blackberry aromas, as well as oyster shell. Medium body. Cherry, chocolate and light hazelnut flavors. A beauty now." (07/2020) 91 points Vinous: "Luminous red with ruby highlights. Very clean rose and flinty notes add complexity to the pungent red and black fruit-accented nose. Clean fresh and lively in the mouth, with similar flavors to the aromas. This becomes much sweeter with aeration so make sure you decant a couple of hours ahead. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gianpaolo Pira runs the Luigi Pira winery today. His 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo (with 6,000 bottles made) shows some ripeness with cherry skin, wild berry, pressed rose and some iron-rich soil. These results are simple and sharp, rendering an authentic and naked expression of the Nebbiolo grape. (ML)" (07/2020) Vinous: "The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo is an attractive entry-level offering from Pira. Crushed flowers, mint, dried cherry, iron and leather add nuance to a Langhe Nebbiolo that has quite a bit of muscle. Then again, we are...

Gelmino and Cristina Dal Bosco started their winery in 2002 when the family decided to stop selling their grapes to the local co-op and make wine themselves. The winery and vineyards are located in the town of Brognoligo in the heart of the Soave Classico production area that is limited only to the communes of Soave and Monteforte d’Alpone in the province of Verona. The Montesei bottling is 100% Garganega which is harvested by hand and vinified in stainless steel. The color of the wine is a yellow straw, and the profile bright and floral with mineral det...

94 points International Wine Review: "The 2015 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino displays a pale color but powerful essence, this young Brunello shows notes of orange juice, citron, red plums and cinnamon that all take shape beautifully. Full body, soft and juicy tannins and a balanced finish. While this is accessible today, it should show even more with some time. 2017 G.D. Vajra "Viola delle Viole" Barbera d'Alba Superiore
Top Pick!
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The G.D. Vajra 2017 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Viola delle Viole opens to an inky almost impenetrable appearance. The bouquet opens to robust aromas of blackberry jam and cherry preserves. You feel the heat and richness of the vintage, and there's no way around it. The 2017 growing season produced very concentrated fruit with smaller berry size due to heat and drought. In effect, you get a super-sized Barbera that ups the ante in terms of extraction and intensity. There is a point of almost-sweetness on the close f...

From one of Aosta's largest yet most quality-conscious cooperatives, this delightful red blend is one of our favorite everyday drinkers. Composed of approximately 75% Petit Rouge and the remainder a combination of Vien de Nus, Cornallin, and Premetta, this wine is sourced from high-altitude vineyards between 600 and 800 meters elevation. These native varieties grow remarkably well here, ripening fully yet retaining a bright, balanced acidity that makes this wine an ideal pairing for a wide range of cuisine. A little tight and reserved, but pretty and precise. " (10/2020) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild berry, crushed herb, new leather and truffle aromas emerge from the glass. 95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barolo Bussia is laced with a whole range of sweet floral and balsamic overtones, along with striking underpinnings of structure and tannin that give the wine its shape. 2018 Castello di Volpaia "Citto" Toscana
Top Pick!
This is the second label of Volpaia's famed Chiantis, and Citto translates to "young boy." Sourced from estate vineyards in Chianti Classico and Maremma, this blend of mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon is an affordable introduction to this stalwart estate.

96 points International Wine Review: "This is a gorgeous wine from Villa Poggio Salvi in this vintage. This opens to distinctive aromatics with notes of raspberries, currants, rose petals, wild myrtle with a beautiful citrus undertone, which immediately dispenses character and authority. On the palate this is full-bodied and extracted, with powerful tannins, which are velvety and beautifully blend harmoniously into the concentrated finish that expresses all the fruit quality. Already extremely compelling now, however this stunning Brunello should become ...

2016 Talenti "Piero" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Wine Spectator: "Cherry, strawberry, earth and mineral flavors provide immediate appeal up front, while the dense structure indicates this red will evolve steadily over a few decades. Underbrush and tobacco elements seep in around the edges, but the beam of fruit persists. (BS)" (03/2021) 97 points James Suckling: "This is really beautiful with so much black-cherry and blackberry aromas, as well as walnut and cedar. Some black truffle, too. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so tight and polished with solid tannin tension and focus. Goes on and on. S...

2015 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
94 points Decanter: "The Col d’Orcia style of Brunello is based on clarity of fruit expression in open-knit wines of medium body, approachable fairly young and with usefully long drinking windows. The 2015 is especially engaging and mouthwatering. Organic. (MW)" (12/2020) 94 points James Suckling: "A full, very layered young Brunello with cherry, floral and light toffee and cedar character. It’s very layered and fine-tannined. Lively acidity and focus. Really attractive dried citrus at the end." (08/2020) 94 points Vinous: "Here I find a gorgeous and...

It’s full-bodied, yet very tight and reserved. Stealth is a word that comes to mind. Love it. Best in a long time. " (05/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barolo Cannubi is ample and generous, with terrific textural resonance and breadth. Ripe dark cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol all flesh out in a supple, racy Barolo loaded with class and personality. The 2016 is rich, sensual ...

James Suckling: "A straightforward, fruity red with berry, cherry and chocolate character. Medium body, round tannins and a medium finish. " (07/2020) K&L Notes: Owned by the Tagliabue family since 1979, the wine growing on the estate dates back to the 17th century. (10/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here's an elegant and classic expression of the vintage.
