Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity.

Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

The vineyards of Ragnaud-Sabourin stretch far over the hills in Grande Champagne, 33 hectares of Ugni Blanc, with a bit of Folle Blanche, as far as the eye can see. This estate is known throughout France for having the goods, and we couldn't have been more impressed after visiting the property. Today the estate is run by Annie Sabourin, who is the daughter of the late Marcel Ragnaud, and she makes sure every drop lives up to the property's reputation. The collection of Ragnaud-Sabourin selections we tasted were spellbinding and easily one of the most pol...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A truly grassy aroma leads to a fresh, herbaceous and crisp wine. To top its crispness, it also has some weight, wood flavors and a creamy core with a white pear texture. It could benefit from aging, at least three years, to bring out the inherent richness of the wine. *Wine Enthusiast Best of 2009* (RV)" (07/2009) Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, this constant over-achiever’s 2007 exhibits notes of plum sauce, soy, spice box, and unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco. This round, generous sleeper of the vintage shows ...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This rich wine is powered by tannins and generous blackberry fruits. It is currently dry, with a firm core. But the wine has weight and will develop well. (RV)" (04/2021) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark cherry and red currant fruit melds nicely with notes of red tea and warm earth. Light alder thread stitches up the solid, juicy finish. (JM)" (03/2021)

A rich ruby red with notes of violets and red berry fruits, this Cabernet Franc is nicely layered on the palate with brightness running throughout and just a touch of smoke mixed in with some purple fruits. Soft waves of mineral with a nice soft tannin make this a true delight to drink. Domaine les Pins has been family run for five generations. They are a small artisanal producer that oversees every stage of production from start to finish themselves. They have roughly 30 hectares of Cabernet Franc spread out through the Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bo...

Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! The 2013 Millésime is a blend of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier, and 15% Pinot Noir and aged eight years on the lees, with 8g/L dosage. The winery describes this release: "Only the best years are vintage, and 2013 is one of them. It was a late and cool year with a harvest that brought together all the characteristics of a great ...
The incredible Domaine de Jouanda is one of the best estates that has remained essentially unknown in the United States despite an explosion in interest in the Armagnac category. The family Poyferre has found success in France in top restuarants and bottle shops, but is not widely distributed stateside and remains a hidden gem here. This family, the same that once owned the excellent Chateau Leoville-Poyferre, commercialize their Armagnacs more as family tradition than a profit-making endeavor. In fact, 100% of the profits from selling Armagnac are retur...

Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Aviza, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Stainless steel, 100% malo and six years sur lattes. Dosage 2.5 g/l. Smells of sour cream and lemon zest. Lots of groovy, grooved bitterness, lots of dusty spice and stone dust. This wine is much more about the finish; the mid palate backfills right at the end. I love the contrast of the rich smoothness and ‘thickness’ of sour cream with the tiny, sharp, peppery, ground-rocks sensation of the bubbles. (TC)" (05/2023)

Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. Proprietor James Kinglake believes that Viognier has incredible potential in the region. The natural climatic influence of the Pyrenees to the south, the Atlantic to the west and the Mediterranean to the east provides a haven for grape varieties that excel in a cooler climate. The Viognier vineyards are at approximately 240 meters and are planted on a mix of clay-limestone soils. Though they are not going for Condrieu, ...

92 points James Suckling: "Very attractive dried flowers and slightly musky spices with rose perfume and strawberries. Lots to like here. The palate has a smooth array of fine tannins that are nicely built in layers to drive the finish. Gentle chew, great depth and ripe fruits to close. " (02/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Vivid ruby. An expressive bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, candied flowers and minerals, along with a hint of allspice in the background. In a distinctly elegant style, offering seamless, appealing sweet raspberry, cherry and spicecake flav...

94 points James Suckling: "Deep nose of spices, licorice and dried cherries with a pronounced flinty note. Cool and sleek but with impressive concentration for the 2021 vintage, this already has wonderful harmony right through the long, structured and stony finish. Bottled with low sulfur addition and unfiltered. Drink or hold." (02/2023) 93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Morgon Non-Sulphité has a beautifully-defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, hints of black olive and oyster shell - very focused. 93 points Decanter: "Very concentrated, deep kirsch and blackberry fruit. Deeper than most in 2020, with driving acidity and dense tannins, then a touch of fig on the finish. Fluid but concentrated, fresh, with a well-defined tannic structure. 50-year-old Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre. Grown on clay limestone and marl, handpicked, part destemmed, aged in old barriques and foudres. Not to be confused with Château d'Issan or its second wine, Blason d'Issan, this awesome value (from the vintage Jancis Robinson suggests might Bordeaux's best ever) actually hails from a different vineyard than these other d'Issan's. And while this is labelled and sold as Bordeaux Supérieur, it is nonetheless under the outstanding d'Issan umbrella (the 2019 grand vin got 96 points from Jane Anson).
In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first-ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wine...

This all chardonnay champagne hails from the famous grand cru of Ambonnay, usually famous for its Pinot Noir. The Petiau family has a small, just over 1 acre plot of this rarely seen whit grape from this grand cru, and it has yielded a profoundly minearl, creamy, exotic white wine. Don't miss out on this rarity, as their US importer we only recieved five cases! -Gary Westby, K&L

91 points John Gilman: "The 2016 Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages “Plan de Dieu” from Château du Trignon is also pretty ripe in personality, coming in at the same 14.5 percent octane, but it seems just a touch more precise on both the nose and palate than the tasty 2017 version. The nose wafts from the glass in a slightly more red fruity blend of red and black raspberries, fruitcake, pepper, hung game, garrigue and a beautifully complex base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, peppery and full-bodied, with a fine core of fruit, stony soil signature, mo...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot planted in 1934, has power, depth and grace—it's no wonder why it's their flagship wine.

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2012 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced for the red wine in this blend was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry, with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the lingering finish.

91-92 points James Suckling: "Very pretty aromas and flavors of purple fruit with chocolate and walnuts. It’s medium-bodied with creamy tannins and a juicy, lightly chewy finish." (04/2021) Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Bourdieu sports a deep garnet-purple color and notes of stewed black plums, blackberry preserves and underbrush, plus wafts of dried herbs and dusty soil. The medium-bodied palate offers a good amount of expressive black fruits with a soft texture and lively backbone, finishing with an herbal lift. (LPB)" (06/2021)

This entirely estate grown champagne comes from just three miles north of the border with Burgundy in the legendary village of Les Riceys. It is 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, from the old vines on the Lamoureux property. From the ripe and clean 2018 harvest, this is an expressive champagne with an airy feel, and tons of minerality on the nearly saline back end. -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

90 points Vinous: "Deep violet. Fresh dark berry and cherry aromas take on a hint of pungent flowers as the wine opens up. Sappy and nicely concentrated, offering intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter and livelier on the back half. Closes spicy and long, with a lingering suggestion of cherry liqueur and round, even tannins. bouquet is deep, nascently complex and very precise, offering up a constellation of tart orange,
apple, pear, flinty minerality, citrus zest, a gentle framing of vanillin oak and a topnote of anise.
On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with a great core, outstanding mineral
drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, focused and perfectly balanced finish. Another
simply stunning wine. 2029-2075." (01/2023) 94-...

95 points James Suckling: "What a deep and complex nose this great southern Rhone red has! There’s everything from forest berries to tar and licorice with stacks of delicate spicy notes, bonfire and smoke, too. Enormous concentration and structure that enable this to stand next to the best Gigondas! Also there is very healthy acidity at the long and intense licorice and chalky finish. A cuvee of grenache, syrah and mourvedre that was matured in French oak for 12 months. (SP)" (05/2023) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A deeper, richer wine, the 2019 Côtes Du Rh...

96-99 points Burghound: "Here the almost unbelievably complex nose is more restrained than that of the Bâtard with its pure aromas of lilac, rose petal, lavender, spiced pear, exotic tea and lemon confit. There is excellent richness and outstanding volume to the wonderfully textured and highly sophisticated flavors that are also blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the very firm acid backbone on the explosively long and palate staining finish where the minerality is so prominent that it's like rolling small rocks around the mouth. Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from twelve hectares of estate vineyards.
