Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930, and since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The estate has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A big, meaty, mineral-laced Syrah, the dense purple-hued 2020 Cotes Catalanes Secret De Schistes offers up a great nose of blackberries, roasted herbs, chocolate, and graphite that develops more meaty and leather notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated, and rich, it hits the palate with a soft, supple, seamless mouthfeel, impressive tannins, and a great finish." (05/2022) Jancis Robinson: "Smells like red apples, polished church pews and walnuts. Violin-string tension, tangy, a little more chisel and groove and t...

Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. With citrus and stone fruit profiles, zippy acidity, and a minerality that comes from their humble terroir, we think Renaud is one of the best entry-level Burgundy estates we carry at K&L.

The Ariston's vineyards are vastly different than those of the other Blanc de Blancs producers that we carry. The steeper slopes, less chalk, and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This is one of my favorite toasting Champagnes. All of the flavors are up-front and it's open-knit and fun. It is a perfect way to start a party. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

92 points Wine Advocate: "The darkest ruby of the 13 samples I received from the industrious Cave Les Vignerons de Tavel & Lirac, the 2022 Tavel Cuvee Royale kicks off with notions of crushed stone, lime zest and macerated berries. It's full-bodied, concentrated and richly textured, with a long, citrus and berry finish that could actually use a few months to smooth out. (JC) 92+" (05/2023) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A robust, big-boned style, with expressive wild cherry and cassis flavors. Fruity and concentrated yet also impressively fresh, with miner...

If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north—the wrong way, away from the sun—and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some say it's because of a meteor that,...

This balanced, elegant Champagne is composed of 30% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier. The grapes are all from the Gonet family's estate, spread from the southernmost 1er cru of Vertus to the valley of the Marne. It is a gorgeous wine to toast with: bready, vibrant and flavorful. 91 points James Suckling: "This has aromas of grapefruit, pomegranates, and biscuits. It’s honeyed and sleek with a medium body and supple bubbles. Soft and creamy finish. Majority pinot noir, with chardonnay and meunier. Around 40% reserve wines. 10g/l dosage." (02/2023) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This ever-popular Champagne is getting imperceptibly drier. There is a fresh edge to it that is new and welcome. Crisp apple fruits give the wine a lift at the end. (RV)" (12/2022) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A firm, fresh version, with the lively bead car...

92 points Decanter: "Lovely upfront and distinct aromas that span lemons and limes, apples and pears, with wet stone and light brioche touches. The palate is wonderfully creamy, with delicate soft bubbles and flavours driven by lemon curd and toasty shortcrust pastry. This is refined, elegant and offers good complexity for the price; excellent value. There's lots to like here, it's tasty and easy to enjoy. Nos Jolies Ouvrées Bourgogne Chardonnay beautifully showcases the elegance and complexity of Burgundy. Crafted from Chardonnay grapes, this wine offers a harmonious balance of ripe fruit flavors, minerality, and refreshing acidity. Its subtle oak influence adds depth and structure, while the unique terroir imparts a distinct character.
This all estate grown, 100% Pinot Noir champagne comes from Les Riceys, one of the southernmost villages in Champagne. It is the same wine as the reserve, but with an extra year of ageing and without any sugar added. It was the biggest discovery of my March trip to the Aube, but unfortunately only 4000 bottles were produced. This wine has great baguette toast, subtle pinot noir fruit and a great mineral finish that shows off how close this estate is to Chablis. The minerality and length are amazing, and even though it has zero dosage, the 50% reserve win...
Paul Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my last trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic Brouillet black cherry power, and finishes very dry and super long. It is a powerhouse in the style of a vintage Bollinger, but with even more soul! Like almost all Champagne, this wine has relatively low alcohol, 12%. (Gary Westby, K&L Ch...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A year's barrel aging has broadened the appeal of this rich Champagne. With its full texture and tight acidity from the low dosage, the wine is set for further bottle aging. (RV)" (10/2021) K&L Notes: This is Jerome Trudon's smallest production Champagne, and we only received three cases of it for the US market. It is a combination of two vintages, and always spends more than six years on the lees. It is a brioche/toasty style of Champagne with plenty of dried fruit and vinous power behind it. To highlight the concentration ...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A consistently perfect wine every time I've had it, the 2009 Château Pontet-Canet is the greatest wine from this address to date as well as one of the greatest Pauillacs out there. Still youthfully ruby/purple and with a gorgeous perfume of blackcurrants, lead pencil, graphite, crushed rocks, and damp earth, it's still youthful but is just now starting to show more nuance and complexity. Full-bodied on the palate, with a powerful, concentrated mid-palate, incredible depth of fruit, and flawless balance, Bordeaux simply does not g...

Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the more pleasant fall ev...

Wine Spectator: "This fleshy red shows black cherry, spice and herb flavors with firm tannins. It has good concentration and while it's drinkable now, it should improve. " (06/1997) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak. (WK)" (09/2023) 88-90 points Burghound: "Note: from a .40 ha holding A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose combines notes of both white and yellow orchard fruit and those of citrus confit and quinine. 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Produced by the Dragon family, the wine is brightly textured with a bite of pepper as well as plenty of acidity. A dry wine, it needs a few months. *Best Buy* (RV)" (07/2023) K&L Notes: Domaine Jacourette lies in the shadow of the Montagne-Ste-Victoire just east of Aix-en-Provence. This long-aged, pure Meunier hails from the cold climate of Pierry, and has had at least five years on the lees. It is sleek, savory, and framed with a sourdough toast aroma of the best of non-vintage Champagne. The wine is entirely fermented in stainless steel, and then riddled in manual giropallettes, the first I have ever seen in the region. Didier says "it is easy", but I don't think I would have the arm strength to do it! -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Mostly Grenache Gris (past vintages have had a splash of Roussanne), the 2020 Côtes Catalanes Secret De Schistes Blanc is another brilliant white. Made in a richer, more concentrated style, it offers a great nose of white currants, orchard fruits, white flowers, chalky mineral, and green almond nuances in a medium to full-bodied, brilliantly textured, balanced white that brings both richness and freshness. I've always thought this wine was best enjoyed in its youth, but I suspect this might be changing, and the 2020 should evolve ...

The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things: oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I obviously underrated the 2016 Château Haut-Bailly on release, and it easily tops out my scale. A hypothetical blend of the 2009 and 2010, it has the opulence and sexiness of a ripe, sunny vintage (à la 2009) paired with incredible purity, concentration, structure, and elegance (à la 2010). Incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, cedar pencil, flowers, and minerals give way to a full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered Haut-Bailly offering ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, nothing out of place, and the class t...
