Wine Enthusiast: "With its high proportion of Meunier, this Champagne is a ripe generous wine that has rich pear and kiwi flavors that are full and tangy. (RV)" (12/2020) K&L Notes: This Champagne is composed of 70% Pinot Meunier and 30% Pinot Noir and is aged three and a half years on the lees. The exotic, pure Meunier fruit in this Champagne marries with the creamy, delicately toasty aromas and flavors. The wine has no trace of sherry-like oxidation or bruised apple malic character that Meunier-based Champagnes sometimes have. On the contrary, this i...

This incredible blanc de noir hails from the Courtois estate in Crouttes-sur-Marne, the far west of the Champagne region. It is composed of equal parts Pinot Noir and Meunier and has a light golden color. The boquet is full of savory intrigue and reminds me a bit of Gevrey-Chambertin, but with some sourdough toast from the over four years of ageing on the lees. This is a concentrated champagne with great mid-palate authority and full toasty, noughaty flavors that still come togehter on a fresh, dry back end. -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer
This all estate grown, 100% Pinot Noir champagne comes from Les Riceys, one of the southernmost villages in Champagne. It is the same wine as the reserve, but with an extra year of ageing and without any sugar added. It was the biggest discovery of my March trip to the Aube, but unfortunately only 4000 bottles were produced. This wine has great baguette toast, subtle pinot noir fruit and a great mineral finish that shows off how close this estate is to Chablis. The minerality and length are amazing, and even though it has zero dosage, the 50% reserve win...
93 points Decanter: "Very concentrated, deep kirsch and blackberry fruit. Deeper than most in 2020, with driving acidity and dense tannins, then a touch of fig on the finish. Fluid but concentrated, fresh, with a well-defined tannic structure. 50-year-old Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre. Grown on clay limestone and marl, handpicked, part destemmed, aged in old barriques and foudres. (MW)" (09/2021) 91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "What should be a brilliant classical Gigondas readers will love, the 2020 Gigondas Tradition offers a great nose of red and bl...
95 points Decanter: "A jewel of a wine (Gros Manseng with Petit Courbu and Arrufiac), so particular and distinctive, showing no ambition other than singing its origin. Aromas of apple and notes of vibrant peach, mirabelle plum, dried herbs and a suave enhancement of lees. Elegant and quite delicious with a finesse and fine spine of acidity. (Panel Tasting) *Top White Wines of 2022*" (11/2022) K&L Notes: Founded in 1979, Vignerons de Plaimont is a union of cooperative wine cellars based in the South West of France, in the Gers region. 89-91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Brought up in amphora, the 2017 Rasteau Argilla Ad Argillam is equal parts Grenache and Syrah. Black cherries, lavender, sappy herbs, and floral notes all emerge from this beauty, which is fine, elegant, and about as easy to drink as it gets. (JD) " (08/2018)

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Syrah-dominated 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Roaix Les Hautes Granges offers more peppery herbs, meat, and garrigue notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness, good mid-palate density, and ripe, polished tannins. It’s not a classic Cotes du Rhone, but the quality of the Syrah-dominated cuvées from the Southern Rhône has soared in recent vintages, and this is a prime example. It has remarkable purity of fruit, plenty of structure, and will keep for over a decade. 92+ (JD)" (09/2019)

100 points Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estate’s great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa a...

Domaine Séailles' Armagnacs from the 1970s are absolutely lights out. The balance between fine French oak and shockingly bright fruit—especially for such old brandies—is hauntingly beautiful. The tiny estate only has 2.5 acres of Ugni Blanc dedicated to Armagnac on Ténarèze's famous clay limestone soils, and they manage to produce extremely high quality brandy for very affordable prices. The '75 sits at a wonderful 46% ABV and is so approachable that it may just become the go-to pour for you and your guests. ** These bottles have damaged/cracked wax cap...

(01/2021) Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of ripe cherries, sandalwood, dried herbs, and bouquet garni notes emerge from the 2018 Château Beauséjour Cuvée Prestige, which is medium-bodied, nicely textured, and enjoyable. Drink this well-made, character-filled Fronsac over the coming 7-8 years or so." (03/2021)

Deep vibrant color, spicy blackberry and jammy raspberry flavors, and exceptional balance. Ripe round fruit. Very powerful. Rich and long with super mouthfeel. This will be a fairly early drinker. Watch for it. It’s exceptional. Blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec. 89-91 points from Robert Parker...'One of the vintage's most successful offerings, the opaque purple-colored 1999 Gruaud-Larose reveals the estate's tell-tale aromatics of saddle leather, aged beef, blackberries, cassis, licorice, and toba...

92 points Vinous: "Extremely pale pink. Vibrant, mineral-driven raspberry, redcurrant and blood orange aromas show excellent clarity and take on a suave floral nuance with air. Silky, dry and taut on the palate, offering nervy red berry and citrus fruit flavors that convey a compelling blend of power and delicacy. Air brings out a suggestion of smoky lees that carries though an impressively long, energetic finish that leaves floral and bitter orange pith notes behind. (JR) " (04/2019)

Originally a distinct estate located adjacent to Château Carbonnieux, both properties were purchased by Marc Perrin in 1956. Perrin reorganized the vineyards of both and designated Tour Léognan as the second wine of Carbonnieux. According to the winery, "Château Tour Léognan is made from the younger vineyards of Château Carbonnieux (vine younger than 12 years of age). It follows the same process and deserves the same care as its bigger brother. Being drier and fruitier, the Château Tour Léognan wines can be served younger but they still reflect the rich ...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Bottled under a black label to celebrate Pavie’s addition to the Grand Cru Classé “A” classification, the 2012 Chateau Pavie is a brilliant wine, and readers with bottles in their cellars are in for a treat. From a bottle purchased in the US, this deep purple-hued beauty takes plenty of air (it showed best the day after opening) to show at its best yet offers incredible notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, scorched earth, graphite, leafy herbs, violets, and background oak. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, it nevertheless has incr...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A magical showing, the 2005 Chateau Cheval Blanc is a powerful, deep, incredibly massive wine by this estate’s standards, yet it nevertheless never loses a sense of elegance, purity, and finesse. Bombastic notes of cassis, flowery incense, tobacco leaf, and dried soil all flow to a full-bodied red that has sweet, integrated tannins, a beautiful mid-palate, flawless balance, and a huge finish. It’s drinking shockingly well today, and my money is on it continuing to show this way for another three decades." (06/2019) 100 points W...

Offering awesome white grapefruit, floral, mint, and chalky notes, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a vivid, pure, chiseled mouthfeel, and a great finish. I'd be a buyer." In addition, this blend incorporates Arbane, Pinot Blanc and Petit Meslier. The resulting wine is ripe, perfumed and full of concentrated creamed-apple flavors allied to tight acidity. It is ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: This is one of the most exotic, complex bottles of Champagne in the store. 91 points Wine Advocate: "In only its second vintage, Barroche's 2016 Liberty Vin de France is a terrific wine, produced from a patch of 65-year-old vines in Côtes du Rhône and some declassified Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After spending 20 months in foudres and demi-muids, it was bottled less than a month before my visit. It's medium to full-bodied, intense, firm and spicy, with herbal notes from the bit of Carignan in the blend, pinches of black pepper and cinnamon and crunchy red fruit. There are 1,250 cases of this wine, which is right up there with some of...

(02/2019) 97 points Wine Advocate: "A brilliant young wine, the 2016 Léoville Barton unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berries and cigar box mingled with subtle hints of loamy soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with a great core of fruit and stunning length and grip on the racy and completely transparent finish. (03/2022) 96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau is a hugely successful vintage, marked by scents of sun-warmed stones, garrigue, black cherries and black olives. Very sweet, rich, full-on unctuous and densely laden in the mouth, the palate possesses almost electric freshness supporting layer after layer of dried fruit and nut notions, finishing very long. Checking in as a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc raised in 60% new French oak (the balance was in once-used barrels) and representing a tiny 36% of the production, this deep purple-colored 2016 possesses powerful, incredibly classic Saint-Estephe notes of creme de cassis, graphite, damp earth, lead pencil shavings, and burning embers. Offering notes of cassis, roasted meats, beef blood and licorice, this heavenly 2007 is full-bodied, hugely concentrated and rich yet shows incredible purity, focus and precision, with no sensation of heaviness or weight. 96 points John Gilman: "There was a bit of hail damage in the Clos de la Roche this year for Monsieur Lignier (an isolated storm around the tenth of July), so between ten and fifteen percent of the crop was lost. This is too bad, as the 2014 Lignier Clos de la Roche is a stunning young wine! The bouquet is stellar, offering up scents of red and black cherries, plums, venison, cocoa, a very complex base of soil, mustard seed, woodsmoke and a gentle framing of cedary wood. 93-95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Volnay Les Fremiets is all crushed rocks, graphite, minerals and wet stones. With time in the glass the fruit gradually begins to emerge. Sweet red fruit, mint and freshly cut flowers are some of the nuances in the glass, but in the end the Fremiets remains decidedly cool and inward. A pointed, chiseled finish continues the theme to its logical conclusion. Readers will need to be especially patient here. (12/2022) 97 points John Gilman: "The 2012 vintage of Comtes de Champagne is one of the finest young examples of this iconic bottling I have had the pleasure to taste, though it will be a long distance runner and really is not even close to read to dr...

97 points Decanter: "With high expectations that this will be classified at the next round in 2022, and the new winery by Sir Norman Foster nearly completed, it's fair to say that this is a good moment for Le Dôme. The high Cabernet Franc percentage makes its presence felt, and I suggset giving it the full 10 year ageing to really reveal all the nuances, but there is plenty to admire even at this early stage. 94 points Decanter: "This is great white Burgundy that happens to be made from Aligoté. The wine boasts aromas of ripe pear, exotic spice, and fresh tarragon; the texture is dense and deep, with crisp acidity equally balanced by enormous extract. The wine is made from ninety-year-old vines in Chenôve’s Clos du Roi vineyard planted in thin clay soils with high iron content and limestone pebbles (grèzes litées). Pataille works the vines with a horse, and ‘weaves’ the vine shoots rather than cutting them. The result of these labours of love is an absolutely...

Give this some time to mellow out." (03/2011) 95 points Decanter: "Not surprisingly for such a hot vintage, the wine has a degree of solar expression, but it also presents freshness and elegance, and has no element of cooked fruit whatsoever. On the palate the seductively textured flavors are not quite as concentrated as those of the Champs Canet but they're even more complex with really lovely purity of expression. There is excellent volume to the explosive, intense and driving finish that is unusually dry, balanced and long. Like its stable mate, this is exceptionally classy and my predicted range obviously assumes that the sulfur will be integrated successfully in time but in this case th...

100 points Wine Advocate: " Administrator Frederic Engerer says the 2003 is “the sexiest Latour ever made.” He also described it as “the 1990 without any brettanomyces.” I loved this wine from the barrel and was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a small quantity, enjoying every bottle I have had. A profound example of Chateau Latour, the full-bodied, opulent 2003 is already performing well at age eleven, which is somewhat atypical. The pH is a relatively high 3.8, which also indicates low acidity. The wine is very ripe, but not over-ripe, offers gr...
