92-95 points Jasper Morris: "Light to medium red, less nose than for the Echezeaux, but at least as much fruit on the palate with both more tannins and acidity. This may yet put on more weight in the rest of its elevage. More energy at the back. Drink from 2027-2033." (11/2022) 95 points Tim Atkin: "Haunting aromas of roses, foraged mushrooms, plums and raw leather permeate the glass. The palate has a pleasing breadth with ripe red fruit flavors, all encased by some notable tannic tug. As ever, there is a discreetness to Nicole's wines that is best a...

93-96 points Jasper Morris: "80% new wood. No whole bunches are used as they do not wish to hide the muscular shoulders of Clos Vougeot. Intense purple. There is a huge volume of fruit but with excellent tension behind, a good fruit acid balance, still ripe and of course not showing detail yet. But this stands up tall and should work well. Long powerful and oaky finish. Why not." (11/2020) 94-96 points Vinous: "The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was completely desteemed this year. It has a vibrant bouquet of black cherries, raspberry coulis and freshly...

94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of red plums, candied peel, exotic spices, dark chocolate and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a deep core, considerable extract and vibrant acids, framed by notably fine-grained tannins that are very promising for its future evolution. Clerget produced three barrels, one of which was new. (WK)" (01/2019) 93 points Decanter: "In 2016, Clerget produced three barrels (one of them new) of Clos Vougeot f...

94-97 points Jasper Morris: "Apart from 2017, Jean-Nicolas Méo only makes one commercially available cuvée of his substantial holding of Clos de Vougeot. Even purple throughout. This is a sturdy, weighty, richly dark fruited, multi-layered wine, with great potential for the long term. Ripe but not exaggerated." (12/2021) 96 points Tim Atkin: "With 3 hectares, Méo-Camuzet is the second largest proprietor in this Grand Cru after Château de la Tour. There's a good chunk near the château as well as a smaller part in Le Grand Maupertui. The 80% new oak st...

2020 Maison Capitain Gagnerot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Top Pick!
93-96 points Jasper Morris: "This plot in Marei Haut was bought by Henri Capitain, great-great grandfather of Pierre-François. 70 year old vines. Rich concentrated purple in colour. Heady nose, a little bit of sun-dried cherries. Ripe pinot rather than over-ripe, absolutely filling out the middle of the palate, finishing on a fresher note. This is rather beautiful though it may become less expressive for a while in bottle. " (10/2021)

2021 Domaine Michel Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis"
New!
91-93 points Burghound: "Note: from .20 ha parcel; note that Gros uses the atypical spelling of Maupertuis, e.g., with an "s" A whiff of green tea is present on the mostly red berry fruit aromas that are cut with copious amount of earth and humus. There is excellent underlying tension suffusing the big-bodied and solidly concentrated flavors that flash evident power on the distinctly austere, very firm and solidly persistent finale. A classic Clos de Vougeot." (01/2023) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2021 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru was sho...

2021 Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Top Pick!
93-95 points Jasper Morris: "5% whole bunch vinification with half aged in new wood. Glowing fresh purple. Quite heady on the nose, ripe fruit. Very solid, more a blood red fruit than anything darker, fills the mouth very well. Long balanced finish, there is plenty here for the long run. " (11/2022) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru had more fruité than other vintages according to Thomas Collardot. It has a pretty, well-defined nose with ample dark cherry and blackcurrant scents. Fine focus. The palate is medium-bodied with grain...

93-96 points Jasper Morris: "A fine purple with a pinkish edge, vibrant. The bouquet is extremely well poised, much less dramatically whole bunch than in the past, with a purity of fresh red fruit alongside. Seamless and a little bit sensual, with darker fruit behind, even a chocolate note, and a long definitely sensual finish. Drink from 2027-2035. " (12/2022) 95 points Tim Atkin: "The gentler of the two cuvées here, as one would expect, this is more open with refined tannins and exuberant yet gentler, redder fruit flavors. Strawberries and wild cher...

2021 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Petits Vougeot"
Top Pick!
90-93 points Burghound: "Cool, pure and airy aromas of spicy dark pinot fruit are laced with hints of clove, anise and lavender. The detailed and utterly delicious middleweight flavors also exude a subtle minerality on the lightly austere, balanced and sneaky long finale. This is lovely and also quite understated in style. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*" (01/2023) 93 points Decanter: "This wine represents another level of concentration and depth in the Hudelot-Noëllat stable, with lovely black cherry fruit and plenty of earthy nuance. The grapes ar...

95 points John Gilman: "The 2021 Clos Vougeot from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is a simply outstanding young wine. The bouquet is very elegant and pure, offering up scents of red and black cherries, plums, dark chocolate, gamebird, a complex base of soil, a nice framing of vanillin oak and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, complex, refined and full-bodied, with a sappy core of fruit, excellent soil inflection and grip, ripe, fine-grained tannins and a long, balanced and soil-driven finish. This is a gorgeous young Clos ...

94-98 points Jasper Morris: "A slightly richer purple colour than the classic cuvée. The nose is a little bit more discreet, just a question of backwardness, because there is clearly more weight. A massive burst of deep raspberry fruit, less sucrosity and far more power at the finish. The tannins are enveloped by the fruit and the stems only show in the white pepper. Very persistent. Drink from 2028-2040." (01/2023) 97 points Tim Atkin: "This hails from vines planted in 1910 in the heart of the Clos. Its nose is wildly fragrant with peak-season cherri...

2015 Domaine Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is all tannins at this stage, smothering the black fruits. That will change as it matures, revealing dense blackberries and plums as well as keeping its tannins as a base for the exuberant fruitiness. The wine comes from a blend of different parcels that together make up just over four acres of this vineyard owned by Louis Jadot. (RV)" (02/2018) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Monolithic today, this seems one-dimensional, displaying elements of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit, with rose, mineral and spice flavors. F...

96 points Tim Atkin: "With 3 hectares, Méo-Camuzet is the second largest proprietor in this Grand Cru after Château de la Tour. There's a good chunk near the château as well as a smaller part in Le Grand Maupertui. The 80% new oak stands out now, both with toasted spice lift and lightly grainy tannins. Granted, there's no rush; at the domaine, they don't start drinking this until eight years post-vintage. In time, the robust and concentrated black fruit core will easily absorb the wood. 2028-45." (01/2023) 92-95 points Burghound: "Note: from a hug...

94 points Burghound: "Here the nose is much more deeply pitched with attractively spiced aromas that include iron-infused warm earth notes as well as animale and underbrush hints that lead to delicious, powerful and youthfully austere big-bodied flavors blessed with ample dry extract and a linear, concentrated and driving finish. There is real energy here and while the tannins are a bit brut at the moment, this is actually fairly refined as young Clos de Vougeot typically presents itself. Worth a close look as there is real depth here." (01/2008)

95 points Decanter: "Made from the 4.1ha that isn't used for the Vieilles Vignes bottling, this cuvée has evolved over time. Formerly fermented almost completely with whole clusters, today it is not more than 50-60%. The wine ages 20 months in cask (40% new), and the result is less powerful than the Vieilles Vignes (not to mention Hommage), but it is more elegant and approachable, with a lovely perfumed red and black fruit character touched with floral notes. (CC)" (10/2021) 93-95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru unwinds in the gl...

90-93 points Burghound: "Firm reduction flattens the fruit today. Otherwise, there is reasonably good concentration to the detailed and intensely mineral-driven flavors that display excellent persistence and balance, though this will need to develop more depth to merit the upper portion of my predicted range. *Outstanding!*" (01/2022) 91-93 points Jasper Morris: "12% whole bunch. Not too deep in colour with a vivid fresh fruit on the nose, more floral in fact, then pleasing light raspberries and a saline aftertaste. Discreet yet persistent, very attrac...

94-96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is another fabulous wine bursting with energy and a sense of urgency that is hard to capture with mere words. Freshly cut roses, crushed rocks and red berries come together beautifully in the glass. The Clos de Vougeot is impeccable and totally engaging from start to finish. The only possible downside is that the seriously firm tannins will require considerable bottle age to soften. (AG)" (02/2012) 94 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Good bright, medium red. Pungent minerality, complex soil tones and nobl...

96 points Tim Atkin: "These vines are clustered together as a single hectare just south of the château. Caroline said that after vacation they were concerned about the alcohol here as it was already at 14%. It ended up under 14.5%, and it has stirring concentration and absolutely buoyant lift. Cassis, black plums and incense dance across the palate. The tannins are immensely finessed and the oak is stylish and well placed. Give this time. 2025-45" (01/2023) 92-95 points Jasper Morris: "No stems. A significant, dense purple black colour. Lush raspbe...

Bid on this magnum of 1986 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (1.5L). Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir. This 1986 Grand Cru release is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from Clos de Vougeot, a walled vineyard acquired by winemaker Étienne’s grandfather, Gaston Grivot, in 1919. The total holding is 4.6 acres from the middle of the vineyard to the lower wall, and the average vine age is 40 years old. The grapes are completely de-stemmed and fermentation is spontaneous.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Anne Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Grand Maupertui" (95DC, 94ST, 92RP). Decanter: "Showing a good depth of colour, this has an exuberant nose with lush, smoky, overtly fruity raspberry aromas. The palate is very rich and concentrated, a mouthfilling wine typical of this great vintage, but it's still taut and youthful. An assertive wine which shows terrific energy and vibrancy with fine acidity, and excellent balance and refinement for Clos Vougeot. Very long. (SB)" (02/2018)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1993 Domaine Robert Arnoux Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (91WS). Wine Spectator: "Racy red sporting sleek tannins and loads of smoky, berry, raspberry character. Medium-bodied, finely tannic, a super fruity finish. " (11/1995)
Current Bid: $631.00

92-94 points Burghound: " This too is firmly reduced and all that can be discerned is a whiff of herbal tea. The bigger, richer and more powerful medium weight plus flavors terminate in an austere, compact and much more complex finale. This appears to have impressive potential though it's unlikely to be a wine that will show especially well young." Price: $1,995.00

91-94 points Burghound: "A distinctly earthy nose flashes notes of plum, dark currant, violet and discreet but not invisible wood. The rich, full-bodied and powerful big-bodied flavors terminate in a mildly edgy and austere but impressively long finish. Note that my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will ultimately harmonize if allowed at least a few years of bottle age." (01/2018) 90-93 points Vinous: "Bright, dark red-ruby. Pure but muted aromas of medicinal black cherry and licorice. In a distinctly virile style and hard to t...

94 points Wine & Spirits: "This comes from Jadot’s five-acre holding in Clos Vougeot. The vines in Jadot’s holding are 50- to 60-years-old, located from halfway to two-thirds of the way up the hill. My notes from the blind tasting read like a lecture from Jacques Lardière, the recently retired technical director at Jadot, who often spoke as if he’d been dynamized for a biodynamic prep: 'Floral buzz. The feel of limestone in the tannins. Energized. Vigorous.' Aside from the energy in the wine, there is a lovely richness, the powerful tannins seamlessly me...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Jean Tardy Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis" ((91-93BH)). Burghound: "The 100% wood treatment is evident as this is distinctly oaky at present with the earthy and smoky black pinot, cassis and black raspberry fruit struggling to be heard from with big, rich and powerful flavors that saturated the palate with ample dry extract while the wood resurfaces on the impressively long finish. This is delicious if woodier than I personally prefer but there is so much material that I don't believe the wood will compromise the balance or ageability going forward." (01/2007)
Current Bid: $210.00
