2012 Dérot-Delugny Millesime Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $50+) (Elsewhere $50+)
Top Pick!
This 30-acre estate only keeps one third of their production for making their own Champagne, selling off the rest of their fruit. They are the oldest grower-producer in their village. They have been estate-bottling Champagne since 1929, and they’ve been growing grapes longer than written records go back. Everything is aged in a hillside cellar that is over 50 feet deep at the back. This great 2012 Champagne is composed of half each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the oldest vines on the estate. It has a wonderful sourdough toast nose and a touch of smoke ...

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2012 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced for the red wine in this blend was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry, with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the lingering finish.

This Champagne is composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. All of the fruit is estate grown from the Ariston's vineyards in Brouillet — La Vallée Brouillet might be my very favorite place in all of Champagne. I love the rolling landscape, the mix of mustard, vineyard, and colza fields. But most of all I love the quiet peace of this secluded northwestern part of the region. This is the real countryside of Champagne! This area is known for the incredible diversity of fossilized shellfish that can be found in the fields here. The Ariston fa...

2012 Malleret, Haut-Médoc
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: " Lots of pretty fruit here with dark berry, dark chocolate and walnut character. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a long, fresh finish. Tight and polished. " (02/2015) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This 1,000-acre estate with 140 acres of vines is close to Bordeaux and still family owned. With bitter chocolate flavor lying over the fruit, this needs some aging before it can properly integrate. Dark tannins and spice show at the end, along with juicy black-currant fruit. (RV)" (05/2015) Wine Advocate: "This finely m...

2012 Xavier Vignon "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Advocate: "The top wine from the portfolio, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme offers thrilling purity and focus in its lively dark fruits, roasted meats and underbrush-scented bouquet. Full-bodied, ripe and textured, with fantastic polish and sweetness to its tannin, it has a supple, forward feel, yet will easily evolve for 10-15 years. This is another impressive lineup from oenolgist Xavier Vignon, who works with the likes of Raymond Usseglio, Le Nerthe, Marcoux and Grand Veneur, to name a few. These are all negociant wines, but...

2012 Pavie, St-Emilion
Back In Stock!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Bottled under a black label to celebrate Pavie’s addition to the Grand Cru Classé “A” classification, the 2012 Chateau Pavie is a brilliant wine, and readers with bottles in their cellars are in for a treat. From a bottle purchased in the US, this deep purple-hued beauty takes plenty of air (it showed best the day after opening) to show at its best yet offers incredible notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, scorched earth, graphite, leafy herbs, violets, and background oak. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, it nevertheless has incr...

2012 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Back In Stock!
99 points James Suckling: "This is a fantastic and refined Blanc de Blancs. So layered and complex, with lemon curd, chalk, hazelnuts, pastries, baked apples and almond croissants. Structured and tightly wound, with almost imperceptible bubbles. Delicious salty notes at the end. Beautiful. Drink or hold." (12/2022) 97 points John Gilman: "The 2012 vintage of Comtes de Champagne is one of the finest young examples of this iconic bottling I have had the pleasure to taste, though it will be a long distance runner and really is not even close to read to dr...

97 points John Gilman: "The 2012 les Preuses from Domaine William Fèvre is another absolute monument to the vintage, as it delivers a brilliant aromatic constellation of pink grapefruit, pear, tangerine, lemon blossoms, lime zest, oyster shell and every conceivable variation on the theme of chalky minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with a great core of fruit and stunning length and grip on the racy and completely transparent finish. This wine possesses simply gorgeous fruit and floral tones, but it ...

2012 Meyney, St-Estèphe
Top Pick!
92 points Decanter: "Few, if any, non-classed growths have a better terroir or track record in recent vintages. Fragrant fruit, well balanced with a full, rounded flavour. Just right to drink now after 10 years. (SP)" (03/2022) 91 points James Suckling: "A chewy and fresh wine with spice, nut and currant character. Full-bodied and muscular. Needs time to soften." (02/2015) 89-91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is marked by new-wood spice and strong structure that showcases a sense of weight and spicy ripeness. The palate is powerful, while also ma...

2012 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Feusselottes"
New!
95 points Wine Advocate: "The Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Feusselottes is much more backward, broodier on the nose compared to the les Chaignots, the fruit slightly darker with blackberry mixed with raspberry, a hint of mulberry and undergrowth developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firmer tannin than the Chaignots, a little more masculine with very fine acidity, a touch of salinity coming toward the finish that lingers long in the mouth. There is something crystalline about this Chambolle-Musigny that is just exceptional. (NM)" (06/...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Showing the serious side of Lafite, this is big and dark, powered by tannins as much as fruit. The wood aging is still showing, although that will integrate into the great structure that holds up the ripe black currant fruits. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also having great freshness. Drink from 2024. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (05/2015) 95 points James Suckling: "Superb structure for the vintage with blackcurrants, cedar, mushroom and sweet tobacco charact...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Produced in the magnificent new cellars at Montrose, this big, tannic wine is powerful and concentrated. It has something of the classic severity of a wine from this estate, but that’s mitigated by the ripe, generous blackberry fruitiness and the final freshness of a 2012. A great success, to drink from 2022. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (05/2015) 94 points Decanter: "From a blend of 37% Merlot, 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, Montrose managed to take advantage of the good weather that returned in ...

2012 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne
Back In Stock!
98 points Decanter: "What a magnificent bouquet for this Dom Pérignon 2012! Pastry, a hint of smoke and autolytic notes provide a compelling counterpart to eager yet elegant aromas of citrus (lime, tangerine and kumquat) joined by those of fresh fruit, herbs, liquorice, and menthol. There is even a refreshing note of ivy. The palate is tense, vibrant, and very fresh despite its impressive density, which meets its match with an unending finish. This 2012 incarnates the very essence of Dom Pérignon with such a concentrated degree of intensity, along with a...

93 points Vinous: "(this is a retaste of this wine, which I reviewed last year and scored at 92+ because I was hopeful that its oak would recede, which it has): Saturated ruby. Deep-pitched cherry, dark berry, cola and floral pastille aromas are complemented by smoky mineral and incense notes in the background. Supple, sweet and expansive in the mouth, offering sweet blueberry, cherry compote, candied lavender and licorice flavors that show excellent depth. A hint of vanilla appears on the smooth, gently tannic finish, which lingers with serious tenacity...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Continuing to show brilliantly, the 2012 La Mission Haut-Brion is a quintessential Graves, boasting a deep purple color as well as heavenly aromatics of blackcurrants, tobacco, scorched earth, graphite, and licorice. It’s a big, full-bodied beauty yet has a weightless, elegant style, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs a solid hour in a decanter if drinking today and promises to evolve beautifully for another 3-4 decades." 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A flat-out gorgeous wine in the vintage is the 2012 Troplong Mondot, which sports an inky ruby/purple color to go with heavenly notes of black currants, smoked earth, plums, licorice and graphite. Full-bodied, seamless, ultra-pure and impressively concentrated, this blockbuster effort needs 3-4 years in the cellar to let the tannins integrate, and it will knock your socks off over the following two decades." 98 points Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Haut Brion (65% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc) is certainly one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage, with a dense purple color, classic nose of crushed rock, lead pencil shavings, black raspberry, blueberry and flowers. The wine shows subtle barbecue smoke notes in the background, but is full-bodied, stunningly concentrated and builds incrementally, yet finishes with luxurious, almost extravagant amounts of fruit and intensity. From only 46% of the production, this is an absolutely remarkab...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. Powerful and fruity, this finely situated chateau on the edge of the slopes of Saint-Émilion has produced a brightly fruity wine typical of the year. It's a wine that's ripe with berries, soft tannins and great juiciness. (RV)" (04/2013) 90 points Vinous: "The 2012 Berliquet is quite attractive. Succulent dark cherries, menthol, licorice and new leather are all pushed forward. The 2012 is open-knit and generous, with good up-front appeal, and enough underlying structure to drink well for at least a decade, per...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This combines considerable power and concentration with rich, impressive fruits. It has both style and elegance, with density to give it great aging potential. The tannins are firm while also having a velvet texture. The wine, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, is for serious aging. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (05/2015) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Wafting from the glass with aromas of rich berries, plums, loamy soil, baking spices and pencil shavings, the 2012 Léoville Las Cases is medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, with im...

Antonio Galloni writes for Vinous: "The Moncuit family makes consistently outstanding Champagnes but doesn’t seem to get much attention, and that’s really a shame. The core of the domaine’s holdings are in Mesnil. Readers will find terrific expressions of this Grand Cru village in the Delos and Vintage cuvées. The wines are all done in steel, with full malolactic fermentation, yet preserve tremendous cut, energy, and, most importantly, personality." (11/2020)

94 points Int'l Wine Review: "The 2012 Malescot St. Exupery is an exceptional showing in this vintage. Displaying a lovely dark color, this instantly begins to impress with its expressive aromas of blackberries and dark cherries woven together with espresso, damp soil, charcoal, sweet exotic spices and roasted herbs all bursting from the glass. On the palate this is medium-plus bodied with gorgeous velvety tannins that have softened up and are beautifully integrated. The 2012 has shaped up remarkablly well and turned out to be an absolutely outstanding w...

91-94 points Burghound: "A brooding and still very tight nose only grudgingly reveals subtle spice nuances on the dark berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in a more moderate application of wood. There is excellent size, weight and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that exude a fine minerality on the impressively long and very firmly structured finish. This is very Malconsorts in basic character as there is plenty of muscle." Such grandeur and complexity." (09/2015) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The beeswax lift of mature Riesling shows immediately on the heady nose of this wine that's also imbued with baked-pear ripeness. With more air, notes of dark fir honey combine with wet chalk. The bone-dry palate adds in candied-lemon brightness that lends dynamism and drive. This is concentrated, lemony and elix...

Jancis Robinson: "Fully ripe dark fruit. Lightly perfumed. Good harmony on the mid palate, lightish but refined and fresh. (JH)" (10/2014) James Suckling: "Some blueberry and mineral character, a light to medium body and a simple finish. Turns a little lean. But good flavors. " (02/2015) Vinous: "The 2012 Fourcas Hosten has more definition and focus than the 2011, offering higher-toned and more vivacious black fruit laced with cedar and crushed stone. There is something almost Pauillac-like about this Listrac. The palate is medium-bodied with fine t...

2012 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (1.5L)
Top Pick!
98 points John Gilman: "The 2012 vintage of Cristal is the first to be produced entirely from Demeter-certified, biodynamically-farmed fruit, which is a landmark for Maison Roederer. The future is now here! I have been looking forward to this release of this vintage of Cristal for a few years now, but sadly found myself not in top form to appreciate its debut, as I was so suffering from jet lag after my three weeks on the road in November that my energy level was no match for this beautiful young wine. The 2012 Cristal is its customary cépages of sixty p...

97 points Vinous: "The 2012 Cheval Blanc boasts stunning power and a vertical, imposing sense of structure that is quite rare in this vintage. Dark and almost brooding in style, the Cheval is a rare 2012 that absolutely demands cellaring. Smoke, tobacco, incense and dark spices open up with time, but the 2012 is a reticent, tannic wine that is only showing the barest hints of its ultimate potential. This is a magnificent showing and one of the clear highlights of the year. (AG)" (01/2016) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep garnet colored, the 201...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of my favorite wines in just about every vintage is the old vine cuvée from Janasse and the 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is another beautiful wine. Made from 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and the balance Syrah, aged in a mix of foudre and barrels, it offers terrific black fruits, crushed rocks, garrigue, and violet aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, with ripe tannin, it’s a joy to drink and will keep for another 10-15+ years." (02/2018) 96 points Wine Advocate: "Up in the...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2012 Champagne Brut is equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and has 8 grams per liter dosage. Since the 1950s, only 30 vintages have been produced by the house. The aromatics are reminiscent of a Burgundian feel, with pleasant flinty reduction, smoke, and vibrant green fruits of pear and citrus blossoms. Offering an energetic mousse with green apple, yellow plum, lemon curd, and wet stone, this wine is well-balanced and should continue to improve over the coming 15-20 years. 95 points James Suckling: "A rich year with low yields and a perfectly warm summer. The nose is all chalky, oyster shell and dried berries. Plenty of powerful wild red fruit. Super focused with a very crisp, linear, acid drive. Pink grapefruit to close. A great vintage for this rosé. Drink now or hold – this has the structure to support some ageing." (10/2017) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon upped Roederer’s game with a new, dedicated rosé winery in 2007, allowing more precise control over the maceration of pinot noir from Cumières, ...

92-94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncieres is from the brothers’ 0.97 hectare of vine. It has a tightly knit bouquet with superb mineralite – wet limestone, sea spray and strawberry pastilles. The palate is clean and fresh with a crisp tannin lattice and then it unties its bodice, lets it all flow on the more rounded, sumptuous Morello, raspberry leaf and blood orange. Wonderful. There is outstanding complexity and plenty of size, weight and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that display plenty of palate and tannin-buffering dry extract on the superbly persistent finish." (04/2014) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2012 Corton Greves wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure power. Rich and seamless to the core, the 2012 boasts tremendous intensity. 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin is all about texture. A round, sensual Burgundy, the 2012 flows across the palate with gorgeous resonance and sensuality. Dark red stone fruits, wild flowers, spices and a hint of citrus ring out on the generous finish. Today, it looks like the 2012 will offer a long drinking window beginning pretty much upon release. (01/2016) 95 points John Gilman: "The 2012 Château Lafleur has more merlot in it than is customary, as the merlot was perfect and the cabernet franc required quite a bit of selection to ensure that only the choicest vats were included in the g...

Vinous: "The 2012 Chapelle-Chambertin bursts from the glass with dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol and new leather. Rich and enveloping, the 2012 is one of the more sensual, voluptuous wines in this range. Accordingly, the 2012 should be cellared for at least a few years to allow for some of the baby fat to drop off. Today, it is the wine's inner perfume, silky personality and exceptional balance that impress most. There is plenty of promise here. (AG)" (01/2014)

93 points Burghound: "A lavish application of wood all but overwhelms the red currant, menthol, earth and pungent sauvage nuances. There is excellent punch to the large-scaled, intense and mineral-driven flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before terminating in a robust and moderately austere finish that delivers superb depth and seriously good length. This is an old school Corton and while not overtly rustic it's clear that this will require plenty of cellar time to arrive at its full apogee. In a word, excellent." (04/2014) 93 points V...

2012 Trotanoy, Pomerol 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
96-98 points Wine Advocate: "The blockbuster 2012 Trotanoy has more in common with the 2009 or 2010 than most 2012s do. It stands as an example of just how successful Pomerol was in 2012. A dense black/purple color is followed by a bouquet of minerals/crushed rocks, powerful, intense black currant, licorice, roasted meat, barbecue and truffle notes. Full-bodied and super-concentrated, it is an amazing tour de force in this irregular as well as challenging vintage. Trotanoy’s 2012 should be on every connoisseur's buying list. 94 points Wine & Spirits: "This comes from Jadot’s five-acre holding in Clos Vougeot. The vines in Jadot’s holding are 50- to 60-years-old, located from halfway to two-thirds of the way up the hill. My notes from the blind tasting read like a lecture from Jacques Lardière, the recently retired technical director at Jadot, who often spoke as if he’d been dynamized for a biodynamic prep: 'Floral buzz. The feel of limestone in the tannins. Energized. Vigorous.' Aside from the energy in the wine, there is a lovely richness, the powerful tannins seamlessly me...
