Wine Spectator: "This fleshy red shows black cherry, spice and herb flavors with firm tannins. It has good concentration and while it's drinkable now, it should improve. " (06/1997) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. After Joel passed away, his daughter Veronique now makes wines with the help of her husband, Thierry Foltzenlogel...

97 points Decanter: "The nose showed warm and sunny, baked black and red fruit on the nose and a supple but dense texture. The impressive level of tannin noted in earlier tastings is softening now, and the wine is ready to drink but will hold. A lovely wine, outperforming the 1996 at this point. Picking was finished in September, taking place from the 13th to the 27th. The final blend is nearly three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon, with just a drop of Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and Merlot for the balance. (CC)" (02/2022) 96 points Wine Advocate: "A ...

94 points Wine Spectator: "A beautiful wine, with layers of ripe fruit, berry, cedar, vanilla and light spice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Very, very classy stuff." (03/2007) 91 points Wine Advocate: "Somewhat closed and reticent after bottling, but still impressive, this 1995 possesses a dark ruby/purple color, as well as an oaky nose with classic scents of cassis, vanillin, cedar, and spice. Dense and medium to full-bodied, with softer tannin and more accessibility than the 1996, but not quite the packed and stacked effect on t...

90 points Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Chateau Fonsalette Côtes du Rhône is a twenty-year wine that requires 4-5 years of cellaring. It exhibits a black/purple color, good acidity and tannin, a closed, dense, moderately tannic personality, exceptional richness, and a powerful, full-bodied finish. Yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare were slightly higher than the 15-20 achieved in 1996. This is a wine for those who cannot find or afford to purchase Rayas. (RP)" (10/1997)

Wine Spectator: "Well-crafted red. Vivid blackberry and violet aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and very silky, with lovely tannins and a medium aftertaste of fruit and toasted oak. " (01/1998) K&L Notes: The Beychevelle property boasts the deep Garonne gravel soils that make St-Julien famous. Just 90 hectares of the 250 hectare property are planted to vine —predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, followed next by Merlot with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot — and its winegrowing tradition dates back to the Middle Ages.

92-94 points Wine Advocate: "A meaty rich ripe nose of cassis, mulberry and cherry. Full-bodied and expansive structure. Approachable with layers of strawberries and red fruits. A rich voluptuous Barton that should be ready in 2-3 yrs. Then blind in April 2005. A very attractive nose with a slight under-ripeness that lends it freshness and vitality. The palate is well-balanced with toasty new oak. But quite backward compared to others with a dense sweet, chocolate tinged finish. Quite modern in style on the surface, but you can tell that there is a robus...

We've been carrying the Baraillon Armagnacs for years now and it's been a match made in heaven for K&L, the Claverie family, and our customers—we're their biggest account and their biggest fans. There's something special about walking into the tasting room at Baraillon, which is really just a little hut next to their home with plastic furniture and humble offerings (like fresh foie gras straight from the farm next door). Mr. Baraillon will come in from feeding the pigs wearing rubber boots, while his daughter Laurence stands by quietly, yet does most of ...

90 points Vinous: "The 1995 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge is a good but perhaps not great wine from Olivier Bernard. Now at 23-years of age, it remains surprisingly backward, almost sultry on the nose, whereby the oak feels a little too prominent for its age. The palate offers dense red and black fruit tinged with hickory that becomes pronounced with aeration. Firm in grip, it has a rather hard and atypically charmless finish that in this instance is shown up by its 1989 counterpart. Give this another three or four years if you can. (NM)" (08/2018) K&L No...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Léoville Las Cases is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. Medium garnet colored with a touch of brick, it needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock the intense notes of baked plums, dried mulberries and boysenberry preserves with hints of black truffles, Chinese five spice, unsmoked cigars and dusty soil, plus wafts of beef drippings and cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers good weight and generous fruit, supported by plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with ...

95 points Decanter: "The bouquet of the Ducru-Beaucaillou 1995 offers an array of fresh fruit, blackcurrant, plum, spices and liquorice complicated by mint and minerality. It has a juicy and quite fleshy texture and flavours that evoke graphite and cedar along with a touch of leather. This is now at the beginning of its apogee but should hold well for another 10 years thanks to the quality of its tannins. (YC)" (05/2021) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Proprietor Bruno Borie noted this was a somewhat unusual blend this year: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlo...

94 points Wine Spectator: "Fabulous nose of crushed currants, blackberries and forest flowers. Full-bodied, with plenty of ripe fruit and silky tannins. This is really holding back. *Ranked #15 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 1998* (JS)" (03/2007) 92 points Wine Advocate: "An old style Pauillac, yet made with far more purity and richness than the estate's ancient vintages, this broad-shouldered, muscular, classic wine exhibits a saturated purple color, and sensationally dense, rich, concentrated, cassis flavors that roll over the palate with impressive purit...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (Web-2007)" 90 points Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated ca...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (94WS, 91VN). Wine Spectator: "A wine that continues to improve with age. Shows loads of ripe plum, almost prune, with hints of vanilla and mineral. Full, chewy and tight. Still needs time. (JS)" (11/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 La Conseillante, Pomerol (94DC, 93WS, 91VN). Decanter: "1995 was a warm year and the ripe fruits, with notes of fig and prune, come through strongly on the nose. The palate showcases soft truffles, gentle tobacco and some mushroom notes alongside the ripe fruit. You can feel the warm embrace of those Pomerol tannins, tugging rather than dragging you through the palate. It's softened so beautifully that it's fully in its drinking window and should be enjoyed now, although it won't dip for at least another decade. (JA)" (11/2017)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 René Rostaing "Côte Blonde" Côte-Rôtie (94RP). Wine Advocate: "From a vintage that produced classic, structured and focused reds, the 1995 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde came from miniscule yields of 18 hectoliters and offers a gorgeous bouquet of sweet dark fruits, tobacco leaf, olive tapenade and mint. About as classic an expression of this incredible terroir as you’re likely to find, it has full-bodied richness, superb concentration, and a seamless, silky texture. It’s drinking brilliantly today, and can be consumed anytime over the coming decade. (JD)" (02/2015)
