This Armagnac, produced from a small estate plot, was distilled in 1986 and aged for 34 years in 400L barrels before being bottled at 46% ABV. From the importer: "Domaine Séailles is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the Côtes de Gascogne region of Southwest France. A family-owned estate since 1961, Séailles is now run by Jean Labérenne, who lead the domaine to Ecocert organic certification in 1997, swearing off all chemical fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and synthetic chemical products. Located in the town of Ténarèze, which is uniqu...

92 points Wine Advocate: "For L'Arrosee, this vintage has taken an atypically long time to round into shape. It has always possessed considerable power as well as a muscular, concentrated style and hefty tannin. Beginning to shed its tannin, it reveals an intriguing dusty herb, black cherry, kirsch, and mineral-scented nose, with subtle vanillin from new oak in the background. There are medium-bodied, concentrated flavors with some firm tannin, but by and large this is a very accessible wine. It remains youthful, with only a hint of amber at the edge of ...

90 points Wine Advocate: "Having matured more quickly than many northern Medoc 1986s, Meyney is a deep, dark garnet/purple-colored wine with a moderately intense fragrance of minerals, licorice, smoke, roasted herbs, and sweet black currant fruit. On the palate, the wine still has some tannin to shed, but its expansive, savory style suggests it is already accessible. With outstanding extract and layers of fruit, this wine is a candidate for another 10-15 years of cellaring - at a minimum. (RP)" (08/1997) K&L Notes: One of the oldest estates in the Médo...

97 points Decanter: "Both vintages of Gruaud-Larose absolutely stand out in this lineup, and I recommend them both for thoroughly enjoyable drinking today. This was pretty monolithic when young and evolved very slowly. It's still showing tons of black fruits with tobacco, coffee and truffle. Chewy tannins are still evident, with everything clearly signposting a great vintage from legendary winemaker Georges Pauli. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. (JA)" (05/2019) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Still remarkably youthful, my most recent bottle of the 1986 ...

100 points Decanter: "Wonderful, concentrated and still astonishingly young, this has brushes of violet aromatics rising above the tight cassis fruits and rich black truffle, and the classic menthol edging of a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Pauillac. We drank this over lunch and it was breathtaking, but were told that 24 hours later it had blossomed even further, so make sure you give this a serious amount of time in carafe to open up - something that gives you just a small clue as to how structured, layered and complex the wine we are dealing with here i...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1986 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac (97WS, 92JA). Wine Spectator: "Seductively rich and supple with layers of elegant plum, cherry and currant flavors that are beautifully defined before the tannins kick in on the finish. The notes linger on and on. * Wine #2, Top 100 Wines of 1989*" (05/1989)

Bid on this magnum of 1986 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (1.5L). Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir. This 1986 Grand Cru release is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from Clos de Vougeot, a walled vineyard acquired by winemaker Étienne’s grandfather, Gaston Grivot, in 1919. The total holding is 4.6 acres from the middle of the vineyard to the lower wall, and the average vine age is 40 years old. The grapes are completely de-stemmed and fermentation is spontaneous.
