According to the Wine Spectator: "Medium garnet-ruby; cedary, tarry vanilla nose; stylish, concentrated cassis, cedar and tar flavors; elegant." (05/93)

Wine Advocate: "Another triumphant success for Gloria, the 1970 is richer and fuller than the lovely 1971, with longer-term keeping possibilities. Dark ruby color with some amber at the edge, with a fully mature bouquet of sweet fruit, cedar, and a spicy, vanillin oakiness, this wonderful, rich, fruity, medium-bodied wine remains impressive. The finish is gentle and soft. This is a voluptuous, decadently fruity Gloria. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/88. (Bordeaux Book, 3rd edition)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Still lively, with good intensit...

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A deep amber colour and a Beerensauslese-lite nose that is well defined, although lacking some botrytis. There are scents of Satsuma, beeswax and just a little chlorine. The palate is commendable, well balanced, a little ginger on the entry leading to a balanced palate with orange rind, Seville orange marmalade, almost Barsac-like on the finish." (08/11)

Jancis Robinson: "Lovely mellow, glowing colour. Much drier and tighter than the 1975. Intense, dry and sturdy -- less obviously Margaux than the 1975. Much more marked by 1970's firm, not to say rather uncompromising backbone than the mellower 1975. 17.5/20 points (JR)" (02/2009) Wine Spectator: "Medium garnet; ripe black truffle nose, with a tarry note; round, ripe and slightly lean, but elegant; a bit dry." (05/1993)

92 points Wine Advocate: "This is one 1970 that appears to possess the necessary components to develop into something special. It remains youthfully hard and astringent, but there is no doubting the high levels of concentration and intensity. Moreover, the wine exhibits a classy, complex bouquet, offering up scents of cedar, black fruits, minerals, and leather. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with outstanding concentration, this wine requires another 7-10 years of cellaring - can you believe that? It is unquestionably a 40-50-year wine. (RP)" (06/1996) ...

Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 1970 Giscours, Margaux (375ml). Neal Martin of Wine Advocate proclaims that the 1970 Château Giscours is one of the famous wines alongside the 1961, 1966 and 1975 that made the reputation of the Margaux property.
Current Bid: $180.00
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1970 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe. Wine Advocate: "It has been quite a few years since I tasted this Cos d’Estournel. This bottle had a much more herbaceous bouquet compared to eight years ago: undergrowth, tree bark, dusty mahogany bureau with vestiges of sweet red fruits eventually rising to the surface. The palate is foursquare and conservative with dusty black fruits and a dry, aloof finish that has its own “classic” charm. (NM)" (03/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 1970 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru (93BH). Burghound: "(Methuselem) I was shocked at how much better this was than the same wine in magnum format (see herein) as it was not only remarkably youthful but possessed terrific mid-palate fat and density with the classic restrained spiciness and dried rose petal nose and striking length as well as the sheer RC class. A stunning effort for the vintage and this dwarfs the 750 ml and magnum format quality at this point in the wine's evolution." (03/2008)
Starting Bid: $6,600.00
