91-94 points Jasper Morris: "Glowing mid purple. Super sensual fruit on the nose, and this is just the basic Volnay, a perfect expression of the appellation. And then a level of density that I wasn't expecting in this cuvée. How can you do better? Only by going further up-scale chez Lafarge, I suspect." (10/2021) 93 points Decanter: "This is among the reference points for village Volnay. It is a wine with a winningly ripe aroma of blackberry, spice and roses. The texture is supple and approachable, but with time one sees the concentration and subtle ta...

93 points Burghound: "A more floral and elegant nose freely offers up its slightly riper array of plum, black cherry and exotic spice nuances. The lilting and beautifully detailed middleweight flavors deliver outstanding length on the balanced, youthfully austere and stony finale. This doesn't presently have quite the same depth as the Clos l'Audignac but the texture is more sophisticated and overall, this is class in a glass. *Burghound sweet spot Outstanding!*" (04/2023) K&L Notes: Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "This needs a little air – starting with...

94 points Burghound: "An exuberantly spicy nose of plum, black raspberry and violet introduce precise and refined yet powerful tension-filled flavors that are built on a base of almost pungent minerality while terminating in a markedly compact, austere and hugely long finale. This is terrific, stylish and classy but note well that it's unapologetically built-to-age. In a word, excellent. *Burghound Don't Miss Outstanding!*" (04/2023) K&L Notes: Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A more vertical nose – plenty of freshness too – here is good energy. Fuller wi...

93 points Burghound: "In much the same fashion as the difference between the two cuvées of the Bousse d'Or, this is also less expressive and cooler aromatically. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors are also very much built on a base of fine minerality while exhibiting excellent precision on the equally chiseled finale. One minor difference though is that this is not quite as complex though it is just as firmly structured. We will see in time if the "missing" complexity eventually develops. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2023) ...

92-95 points Burghound: "A ripe yet cool nose also features an abundance of spice elements along with notes of poached plum, warm earth and a whiff of the sauvage. The larger-scaled, concentrated and intensely mineral-driven flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine shaping the hugely long finale. This should age effortlessly for years, indeed it should see its 30th anniversary in fine form. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 94 points Decanter: "Dark in colour, the cassis fruit aromas ar...

91-93 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Highly perfumed, musky aromas of black raspberry and smoky minerality. Large-scaled, round and rich but not yet complex; less creamy and fine-grained than the Chevrets, showing a youthful toughness from the calcaire-rich soil. Despite the fact that this was the first Pinot parcel Boillot picked in 2011, this wine relies more on its big, ripe tannins than on its acids for balance. Really saturates the palate on the aftertaste. (ST)" (06/2013) 91-93 points Vinous: "A big, firm wine, the 2011 Volnay Les Frem...

93-95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Volnay Les Fremiets is all crushed rocks, graphite, minerals and wet stones. With time in the glass the fruit gradually begins to emerge. Sweet red fruit, mint and freshly cut flowers are some of the nuances in the glass, but in the end the Fremiets remains decidedly cool and inward. A pointed, chiseled finish continues the theme to its logical conclusion. Readers will need to be especially patient here. (AG)" (02/2012) 91-93 points Burghound: "This is at once cooler, fresher and more elegant than the Clos des Angl...

95 points Tim Atkin: "Lightly smoky and meaty, the strawberry and rhubarb preserve flavors are lifted by scents of lavender and dried flowers. Filigree tannins and buoyant acidity give this medium-bodied wine supreme lift and a sense of lightness. 2024-35." (01/2022) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2020 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a slightly earthier bouquet than its siblings this year, a litle more introspective. The palate is more expressive with red berry fruit, allspice and a touch of dried orange rind. There is ample energy and plenty of structure o...

93 points Burghound: "A very ripe nose of black raspberry liqueur and warm earth nuances where the latter character also suffuses the exceptionally rich flavors that ooze a plenitude of dry extract that renders the otherwise firm tannic spine almost invisible at present. This is an overtly powerful and muscular effort that is classy, harmonious and impressively persistent on the impeccably well-balanced finish. Terrific and very Santenots. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (04/2012) 91 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Tight, rocky aromas of bitter ...

93-96 points Burghound: "This is even spicier with a terrific range of floral elements as well on the aromas of plum, violet and ripe dark raspberry. The firm, focused and almost painfully intense mineral-driven flavors are at once chiseled and breathtakingly long on the balanced, compact, austere and built-to-age finale. This is absolutely superb though note well that this is a wine to allow at least 7 to 8 years first as it's presently a block; a beautiful and very classy block, but a block nonetheless. *Don't Miss! Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 93-96 poi...

92-95 points Jasper Morris: "4 barrels made, about one third below the normal. Deep black purple, a rich sensuality to the nose, very promising. There is a solid core of rich dense cherry, with a firmer more tannic background, but in balance with the density of the fruit. Definitely a wine to put away for rather longer (10+ years) Worth waiting for. " (11/2021) 92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, smoke, spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, rich and broad-shouldered...

92-94 points Jasper Morris: "3.5 barrels from 35 year old vines. A deep purple centre with crimson rim. High class Volnay on the nose, a level of class superior to the preceding premiers crus. Some rose petals and peonies in the bouquet as well as red fruit. A beautiful aftertaste, this time with some concentrated brisk red cherries and even a little breadstick note. Pure and fine." (11/2021) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2020 Volnay Champans 1er Cru comes from a single parcel. This has an overtly floral bouquet with wilted rose petal and iris flower perme...

91-93 points Burghound: "This is also overtly floral in character with its aromas of violet, rose petal, lavender, black raspberry and anise whiffs. There is excellent intensity to the lacy medium weight flavors that flash plenty of soil tones on the refined, focused and sneaky long finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit slowly emerges. This is lovely and very Volnay in style. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 92 points Decanter: "Inky dark, with abundant aromas of black plum and cherry, plus an edge of menthol, pepper and spice. The texture is dens...

91-94 points Burghound: "Like the Clos des Angles, the expressive nose is exuberantly floral in character with its array of cassis, wild red currant, raspberry and jasmine tea scented aromas. The rich, elegant and energetic medium-bodied flavors possess ample punch on the palate drenching finish that flashes first-rate depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This is a classic Chevrets of refinement and style. *Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2020 Volnay Chevret 1er Cru contains 30% whole cluster fruit, cropped at jus...

94 points Tim Atkin: "Pure purple fruits pop out on the nose. They are lifted by toast and vanilla bean. This is a surprisingly dense Volnay that comes from the bottom of Frémiet near Clos des Angles and that sits in a mere dusting of brown clay before the vines hit limestone slabs. The tannins are a bit punchy and the acidity lights up the palate. It wouldn't hurt to wait a few years for the zippiness to relax. " (01/2023) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru has a very pure and open bouquet, perfumed red cherry and wild strawberry...

92-94 points Burghound: "A mentholated top note is present on the almost as spicy nose of black currant, violet and warm earth scents. The succulent and impressively voluminous larger-scaled flavors possess a taut muscularity before culminating in a serious, equally compact and more powerful finish. This isn't nearly as refined as the Caillerets though it is just as complex and notably more powerful. A qualitative choice though the intrinsic character of the two wines is very different. *Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2022)
Price: $129.99
89-92 points Burghound: "Background hints of wood and menthol surround the ripe aromas of poached plum, cassis and pretty floral wisps. The suave, round, sappy and seductively textured middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the slightly more complex and equally structured finale. This sneaky long effort possesses first-rate quality for its level, and this is one to look for. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2022) K&L Notes: Note: this is essentially an old vines cuvée with vine ages of between 50 and 85 years; the vineyards include Grands Cham...

91-93 points Jasper Morris: "Raspberries and crushed strawberries, even though there are no whole bunches, the flavours coming from perfectly destemmed grapes which are ripe. Fills the mouth, shows a little oak, some darker cherries now at the end. Very good. Drink from 2027-2034." (01/2023) 90-92 points Wine Advocate: "Offering up aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest, peonies and mint, the 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets is medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy, with bright acids and a clove-inflected finish. (WK)" (01/2023) 90-92 points Vinous: "...
Price: $129.99
92-94 points Burghound: "This is the spiciest wine in the range with its array of Asian-style tea, sandalwood, black cherry and floral notes that include mostly violet and rose petal. There is outstanding density to the delicious middle weight flavors that flash almost aggressive minerality on the youthfully austere, compact and very tightly wound finale. At least 5 to 7 years of patience strongly advised though this refined and very classy beauty should easily reward 12 to 15 years of keeping. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2022) K&L Notes: ...

Burghound: "A cool, pure and airy nose blends together mostly red pinot fruit and discreet earth nuances with those of menthol and discreet wood wisps. There is both better refinement and an appealing texture to the well-defined and lingering finish that turns mildly rustic as the finish sits on the palate." (04/2023) Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Volnay Village is lovely, bursting with aromas of red berries, rose petals and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with supple tannins and a pure, perfumed core of fruit, it will offer a broad ...

92-95 points Jasper Morris: "The Clos des Ducs and Champans were a little less affected by the frost, with 15 barrels of each made. Quite discreet at first, which is not unusual, then an explosion on the second half of the palate. One can really see the class of this terroir, offering subtly nuanced red fruit with raspberry and alpine strawberry. Guillaume d’Angerville reports that the Clos des Ducs is fattening up nicely during the elevage. Definitely the most complex wine. " (10/2022) 92-94 points Burghound: "(a monopole that measures 2.15 ha). A sli...

93 points John Gilman: "The domaine’s Clos des Chênes was another of the most severely-frosted parcels in their
vineyard portfolio, so there will be very little of this beautiful wine to go around. The wine delivers
a refined aromatic constellation of red and black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, gamebird,
woodsmoke, a beautiful base of soil, vanillin oak and a topnote of violets. On the palate the wine
is pure, full-bodied, focused and quite transparent in personality, with a lovely core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and impeccably ...

94-97 points Burghound: "An exuberantly floral nose combines notes of rose petal, violet, lavender, earth, clove and black cherry liqueur. The almost painfully intense, sappy and muscular big-bodied mouth coating flavors brim with minerality on the explosively long and balanced finish that is less youthfully austere than usual. Even so, the supporting tannins are prominent and leave no doubt that this is going to mature gracefully if slowly. This stunningly good Clos des Ducs is a clear candidate for the best Côte de Beaune red in the 2020 vintage. *Burg...

95-97 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is a magical bottle in the making, wafting from the glass with a deep and complex bouquet of plums, cassis and warm spices, complemented by subtle hints of raw cocoa, peonies and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, it's elegantly powerful, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Finer-boned than the 2018 or the 2015 rendition before it, this is an exquisite wine from the Lafarge family. (WK)" (01/2021) 93-96 points Burghound: "Once again th...

93-95 points Wine Advocate: "If the Cuvée Carnot tends to take center stage chez Bouchard, it's the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds that's the Volnay to beat to my palate this year. Exhibiting aromas of cherries, raspberries, loamy soil, black truffle and raw cocoa, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and elegantly muscular, with terrific depth and mid-palate amplitude, concluding with a long, mineral finish. (WK)" (01/2022) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2020 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru has a lovely spicy bouquet with clove and white pepper scents ...

Of the 2005 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Champans", Burghound writes: "From vines that average 50 years of age. A reserved and inexpressive nose of distinctly ripe red berry fruit and subtle warm earth and underbrush notes where the latter element continues onto the dense, rich and powerful medium full flavors supported by impeccably ripe structure on the energetic and hugely long finish. " (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $405.00
90-93 points Burghound: "A deft application of wood sets off notably ripe dark currant, blue berry, plum and earth-suffused aromas. The equally ripe, rich and velvety flavors possess excellent size and weight before terminating in an utterly delicious, moderately firm and attractively long finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose resurfaces. I very much like the sense of underlying tension and overall, this is a wine of relative refinement. Recommended. *Outstanding*" (04/2017) 92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets is lovely, ...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Vieilles Vignes. Wine Advocate: "The Voillot 2005 Volnay Vieilles Vignes smells of Kirsch, maraschino, and almond paste, awakens the palate with tart, fresh, juicy sour cherry fruit, then finishes long, sappy, startlingly clear and brisk, but with subtle underlying suggestions of raw red meat. (DS)" (06/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2018 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets - Ancienne Cuvée Carnot" (OWC - 93JS, 93RP, 91JM, 90BH) in original wood. Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot is showing beautifully from bottle, unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis, black plums, sweet soil tones and subtle spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's one of the more tightly wound wines in the range, with powdery structuring tannins, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish. (WK) 93+" (10/2020)
Current Bid: $390.00
96 points Decanter: "The Lafarge wines are often some of the palest and most delicate in Burgundy, but don't confuse that with a lack of concentration or intensity. Chalky and pithy yet sweetly, alluringly fruity, this is a beautifully transparent, nuanced expression of a great terroir. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030. (TA) " (10/2018) 94-96 points Vinous: "The 2017 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a deep, broody, almost surly bouquet that gradually unfolds in the glass to reveal blackberry, raspberry and briary aromas. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1999 Jean Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Fremiets" (92ST, 91WS). Int'l Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Superripe but utterly sappy nose offers an essence of black berries. Very tightly wrapped but pure and precise, with a superb core of sappy fruits and spices. Here the new oak has been thoroughly absorbed by the wine sheer density of material. The creamy, silky texture is apparent on the palate-staining finish. "Less dry than the last wine, " Boillot offers. (ST) 92+ " (03/2002)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay. This Village-level wine from the Marquis is a classic Volnay burgundy, a region known for it's voluptuous fruit
Starting Bid: $300.00
89-91 points Burghound: "An appealingly layered nose is also admirably fresh and bright with its mix of various red and dark berries that also display hints of spice and earth. The rich and attractively textured medium weight flavors manage to retain equally good detail on the softly mineral-inflected finish that it at once finer, more complex, longer and better balanced." (04/2019) 91 points John Gilman: "The 2017 Volnay villages from the Lafarges adds yet more sappiness to the mid-palate in comparison to the wines that preceded it in the tasting, whi...

93-95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is shaping up beautifully, unfurling in the glass with scents of peonies, sweet berry fruit, blood orange, smoke and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed, it's velvety and charming, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is the highest in alcohol of all of Rossignol's 2019s, but it appears to be seamlessly integrated. Rossingol began picking in mid-September, and he has produced a lovely set of wines: rich and gourmand, they're dramatic and elegantly mus...

Founded in the late 19th century and currently in its fifth generation, Domaine Maurice Chapuis is a part of Burgundian history. The family actively participated in the establishment of the AOC laws in the 20th century and have been involved in the promotion of Burgundy and its wines ever since. In the last five years, the winery has invested in many updates and modernizations and follows an environmental protection plan to help decrease pesticide use.
Starting Bid: $455.00
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay "Vendanges Sélectionnées" ((90-91RP), 90BH, 90JG). Wine Advocate: "From four parcels proximate in geography and potential quality to their uphill, premier cru neighbors comes the Lafarge 2005 Volnay Vendanges Selectionnees. Deeper, darker and denser in color, structure and flavor than the “regular” Volnay at this address (and as such more typical of this vintage), this offers generous black cherry and plum with tart fruit skin and bitter fruit pit adjuncts. A rich meatiness puts one in mind a bit of Pommard (not surprising given that two of the vineyards incorporated into this bottling lie on the communal line), as does this wine’s firm tannic backbone. Wet stone and humus notes add complexity to the persistently bright fruit and rich meatiness. (DS) 90-91+" (06/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 2-bottles of 2000 Nicolas Potel Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru ((91-93ST)) and 1-bottle of 2000 Nicolas Potel Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Malconsorts" ((88-91BH), 90ST). Of the 2000 Nicolas Potel Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru , Int'l Wine Cellar writes: "Ruby-red. Cool, noble aromas of black raspberry, minerals, violet, bitter chocolate and coffee. Dense and sweet but vibrant, with a penetrating minerality framing and extending the concentrated flavors. Finishes very long and juicy, with fine tannins and a strong note of sweet oak. Like Bonnes-Mares, this is always a complete wine, says Potel, and never really dominated by the character of the vintage. These top crus from the Cote de Nuits show more pristine flavors than most of Potel cuvees from the Cotes de Beaune. (ST)" (03/2002)

Of the 2009 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Echanges" Vieilles Vignes, Burghound writes: "A discreet application of wood frames the fresh nose of upper and lower register red currant, cassis and violet aromas. The middle weight flavors offer lovely richness and mouth coating sap as well as a seductively textured and mineral-inflected finish that is dusty, firm, balanced and long. This is very Chambolle in character as there is finesse and minerality." (01/2011)

91-93 points Vinous: "(13.8% natural alcohol, from vines picked on August 29; entirely destemmed): Bright medium red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry, cherry pit, coffee and mocha. Big, broad and savory, offering concentrated flavors of red berries, dusty spices and earth. This light soil on the Pommard side of Volnay features a lot of little rocks but also a strong clay influence. This wine finished its sugar fermentation in barriques, which has given it more gras, noted Boillot. Finishes salty and long, with substantial but fully ripe tannins. " (01/2017...

The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, veins of blueberry, lightly spiced with white pepper and a touch of clove towards the finish. Great length here. Superb. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay 1er Cru "Fremiets" ((90-93BH), (88-89RP)). Burghound: "Not surprisingly, this is more aromatically elegant still with high-toned, airy and perfumed aromas of pure essence of red berry fruit and background notes of plum and violets that merge into delicious, suave, detailed and penetrating flavors underpinned by good fat and plenty of minerality on the long finish. This is a lovely wine in every respect and if not quite as powerful and deep as the Brouillards, there is even more finesse. *Outstanding* " (04/2007)

Dark rich deep red. The nose remains under wraps, but there is a huge amount of energy on the palate. The tannins are nicely folded in, the acidity is not showing overtly but is present in the structural makeup, and the intense but as yet undetailed fruit on the palate precedes a very gorgeous svelte long finish. Could drink this now but ideally one would wait for the bouquet to develop." (10/2019)
