Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the more pleasant fall ev...

94 points James Suckling: "Deep nose of spices, licorice and dried cherries with a pronounced flinty note. Cool and sleek but with impressive concentration for the 2021 vintage, this already has wonderful harmony right through the long, structured and stony finish. Bottled with low sulfur addition and unfiltered. Drink or hold." (02/2023) 93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Morgon Non-Sulphité has a beautifully-defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, hints of black olive and oyster shell - very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Co...

92 points James Suckling: "Very attractive dried flowers and slightly musky spices with rose perfume and strawberries. Lots to like here. The palate has a smooth array of fine tannins that are nicely built in layers to drive the finish. Gentle chew, great depth and ripe fruits to close. " (02/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Vivid ruby. An expressive bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, candied flowers and minerals, along with a hint of allspice in the background. In a distinctly elegant style, offering seamless, appealing sweet raspberry, cherry and spicecake flav...

90 points Vinous: "Deep violet. Fresh dark berry and cherry aromas take on a hint of pungent flowers as the wine opens up. Sappy and nicely concentrated, offering intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter and livelier on the back half. Closes spicy and long, with a lingering suggestion of cherry liqueur and round, even tannins. (NM)" (08/2021) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the Grand Cras cru of Morgon, this wine shows a refined structure that melds well with the black fruits and acidity. The refreshing, succulent feel makes...

Though the property dates back to the 13th century, the vaulted stone cellars of Château de Juliénas were built in 1744. In 1907, Claude Condemine bought the estate and restored it to its former glory. Currently his great-grandson, Thierry Condemine, and his wife, Aurélie, run the estate, which is certified sustainable (Terra Vitis) and is transitioning over to organic practices. This release is comprised of handpicked and carefully sorted Gamay that grows in the estate’s 38-hectare vineyard on a slope called Bessay in the Juliénas appellation. Some vine...

94 points Wine Advocate: "Fans of old-school Beaujolais will adore the 2021 Fleurie Cuvée Tardive from the Clos de la Roilette. Bursting with aromas of crunchy red berries, peonies, spices and plums, it's medium-bodied, ample and enveloping, with succulent acids, melting tannins and a pretty, perfumed finish. Despite the challenges of the year, the Coudert family have produced a lovely classic, and it's a wine that's much more drinkable and vibrant than some of the recent banner vintages at this address. The Coudert family were indisposed when I made by...

90 points Burghound: "Note: planting densities are a Côte d'Or-like 10,000 vines/ha; les Morieres is a steep vineyard next to Moulin- à-Vent zone, creating a marriage of the two. A distinctly peppery and spicy nose is comprised by notes of earth, plum and various dark berries. The supple, caressing and forward middleweight flavors possess an easy-going yet nicely punchy mouthfeel before terminating in a ever-so-mildly tangy finish where a hint of rusticity slowly emerges. This could be enjoyed now or held for another 2 to 3 years first, which is what I w...

91 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Fleurie from Clos de la Roilette is drinking well out of the gates, offering up pretty aromas of spiced plums, petals and orange rind, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and melting palate. Fleshy and fine-boned, it's a pretty, demonstrative wine that will show at its best young. It's bottled under Nomacorc. The Coudert family were indisposed when I made by annual tour of the Beaujolais this spring, but I made a point of catching up with their 2021s as soon as I could find them in bottle. They've turned out very nicel...

95 points James Suckling: "This is so lively and vibrant offering aromas of sour cherries, raspberries, dried strawberry bush, white pepper, smoked herbs and pomegranate skins. It’s medium-bodied with a delicacy and freshness to the red fruit highlighted with a clean, juicy acidity. Silky and polished. Beautiful now, but can hold too." (11/2023) 93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, matured in used barrels, has a more complex bouquet than the Corcelette: a melange of red and black fruit, potpourri/lavender, and a faint hint of curry leaf that ...

95 points James Suckling: "The intensity of the forest-berry fruit on the nose must be experienced to be believed! And when you look closer, there are also notes of bitter chocolate and dried sage. On the sleek and super-focused palate, the fruit doesn’t let up and is married to a delicate mineral note that gives this so much energy at the supernaturally refreshing finish." (03/2022) 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py is one of the region's most dependable classics, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, sweet berry fruit, spice...

Founded in 1904, Domaine Marcel Lapierre is currently run by brother and sister team, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. The estate’s 11 hectares of organically-farmed Gamay vines average 45 years of age. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo a native yeast, whole cluster fermentation “à l’ancienne” for 10 to 20 days. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for at least 9 months in neutral oak and bottled unfiltered. The result is a bright, juicy, fruit-driven, and eminently quaffable Morgon.

95 points James Suckling: "This Morgon is so vibrant, it’s shocking! Serious tannins and whiplash acidity give this almost supernatural drive and energy. At the moment, the black-fruit aromas are way in the background, but maybe we have to learn that Beaujolais can live for decades, because this one sure will!" (04/2021) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, wild berries, warm spices and licorice, the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py James is medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with superb mid-palate amplitude, liv...

92 points John Gilman: "The 2021 Chiroubles from Domaine Lafarge-Vial is very nicely red fruity in personality in
this cool year, offering up a vibrant bouquet of cranberries, cherries, bonfire, pigeon, granitic
minerality and a topnote of fresh thyme. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, complex and
quite long, with a lovely core of fruit, good soil signature and grip and a long, tangy and modestly
tannic finish. This will drink quite nicely from the outset, but also improve if given a couple of
years in the cellar to fully blossom. Good ...

94 points John Gilman: "The 2021 Pré Jourdan bottling from Mélanie and Daniel Bouland is another simply
outstanding young Morgon. There is a lovely sense of sappiness to the nose here that is quite rare
in this vintage, with scents of black cherries, sweet dark berries, dark soil tones, gamebird,
espresso, peonies and woodsmoke wafting from the glass. On the palate the wine is pure, fullbodied, focused and complex, with a rock solid core of sappy fruit, great mineral undertow and
grip, ripe, buried tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. Like ...

93 points John Gilman: "The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent “les Trois Roches” from Jean-Etienne Chermette is an excellent young wine. It comes in this year at 13.5 percent and delivers a superb aromatic constellation of cherries, pomegranate, a touch of juniper berry, pigeon, coffee, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and a refined base of dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a bit of ripe tannin and a long, beautifully balanced finish. This has a bit of baked fruit elem...

92 points John Gilman: " The Fleurie bottling from the lieu à dit of Bel Air are the oldest the Lafarges worked with in the 2014 vintage (I am not sure of the age of their parcels in Joie du Palais which will not make its debut until the 2015 vintage), having been planted in the 1930s and 1950s. The wine is very pretty and very red fruity in this vintage, offering up a fine constellation of cranberries, tart cherries, granite, vinesmoke and a topnote of fresh thyme. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and intensely flavored, with lovely mineral drive...

93 points Vinous: "The 2020 Côte de Brouilly (Kermit Lynch Cuvée) is very intense on the nose with black cherries and boysenberry fruit, underlying crushed stone and powdered dark chocolate aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, taut and fresh. There's fine grip but clearly more backward than the '21 that will be for earlier drinking. Cellar this for 3-4 years - it will be worth the wait. (NM)" (05/2023) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Known for its iconic wines, this producer was instrumental in creating the Côte de Brouilly appell...

93 points James Suckling: "I love the nose of sour cherries and ripe strawberries with a touch of fresh garden herbs. Only medium-bodied but with good concentration and elegant tannins, this is surprisingly long and spicy at the finish for this vintage. From vineyards on shallow granitic soil in a site with plenty of wind. Matured in concrete tanks for about eight months before bottling. Drink or hold." (03/2023) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe, rounded and packed with black plum fruits and soft tannins, this is a full, generous and warm wine. Aged in...

92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Fleurie is very pretty, soaring from the glass with scents of raspberries, peonies, warm spices and subtle soil tones. Medium-bodied, bright and lively, with terrific purity of fruit, lively acids and fine, melting tannins, this Bel Air-based blend has turned out beautifully. The 2019s have turned out beautifully at Domaine Lafarge-Vial, bursting with fragrant fruit, finer boned and more ethereal in style than the 2018s at the same stage. (WK)" (08/2021) 91 points Burghound: "Slightly more elegant aromas are comprised...

94 points Wine Advocate: "One cuvée that really doesn't miss a beat in this more challenging vintage is the 2021 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine evocative of plums, sweet berries, spices and forest floor. Layered and concentrated, with an enveloping core of fruit and melting tannins, it will delight readers nostalgic for more classically proportioned Beaujolais. Daniel Bouland has turned out another very successful set of wines in this challenging vintage, which has delivered a cooler, brighter, lo...

93 points John Gilman: "The Clos Vernay is a very granitic vineyard and this can really be felt in the 2014 version from Domaine Lafarge-Vial. This was picked fully ten days later than the Chiroubles and Bel Air bottlings (September 15th versus the 25th) and is a lovely bottle in the making. The bouquet is young and quite reserved in profile out of the blocks, offering up scents of cherries, pomegranate, plenty of granitic minerality, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and hints of the gamebird to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and las...

92 points John Gilman: "The regular bottling of Fleurie from the Lafarge family has turned out very nicely in 2021.
This wine includes any production they were able to glean from their parcels in Bel Air and Joie
du Palais in this tiny crop. The cooler summer conditions have given this bottling a nice blend of
black and red fruit tones, as it offers up a complex bouquet of red and black cherries, pomegranate,
raw cocoa, gamebird, a lovely base of dark soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine
is pure, full-bodied and quite elegant in pr...

92 points Burghound: "This is aromatically similar to the Chiroubles but with just a touch more elegance. The cool and restrained nose mixes both red and dark fruit aromas with those of discreet spice and floral wisps. There is very good detail and energy to the more refined if slightly less concentrated flavors that possess a lovely texture on the lingering finale that firms up as it sits on the palate. Very good quality here. *Outstanding, Top Value*" (04/2022) 92 points John Gilman: "The regular bottling of 2020 Fleurie from the Lafarges has turned ...

90-92 points Vinous: "The 2021 Fleurie La Joie du Palais has even more reduction on the nose, with dark berry fruit, iodine and light violet scents percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and fleshy, with fine acidity and gentle grip on the nubile finish. The best of Lafarge's Bojos this year. (NM)" (01/2023) Jasper Morris: "900 bottles made from 1.2ha. A fuller purple, and notably more intensity of bouquet. But is it classic? There is a little touch of grenadine alongside the strawberry notes, more volume in the mouth, and m...

91 points James Suckling: "I love the fragrance and the silky generosity of this 2021 vintage Chiroubles. Effusive aroma of violets. Long finish that’s beautifully supported by the fine tannins. Minimal sulfur addition and bottle unfiltered. Drink or hold." (02/2023) Vinous: "The 2021 Chiroubles Indigène comes from vines at around 430m in altitude, meaning maturity comes 10 days later than average in Beaujolais with greater phenolic maturity. It undergoes natural fermentation and includes just 10mg/L of sulphites and no filtration. It is quite broody a...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A juicy wine with just a bite of tannins, this promises well. The ripe structure will soften well into a generous, blackberry-flavored wine. (RV)" (05/2023) K&L Notes: The Amethyste from Perroud comes from a two-acre vineyard of 75-year-old vines planted on granite and sandy soils. The terroir is said to also contain purple crystals in the soil, lending minerality to the wine and providing the vineyard its name.

93 points John Gilman: "Like the Chiroubles in the Lafarge-Vial lineup in 2021, the Clos Vernay is also very red fruity in profile this year. The wine’s complex aromatic constellation offers up scents of cherries, cranberries, blood orange, gamebird, stony soil tones, a touch of white pepper, fresh thyme and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely structured for a young Fleurie, with excellent sappy depth at the core, suave tannins, excellent soil undertow and a long, tangy and modestly tannic finish. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is named after the number of the large barrel from which it came. A concentrated, structured wine, it shows tannins and firm berry flavors. It is still young and needs to age, so drink from 2025. (RV)" (02/2023) K&L Notes: Considered a lucky number by winemaker Robert Perroud, the noble Gamay in "Foudre No. 5" grows on a three-acre vineyard on the slopes of Mont Brouilly. Perroud's family winemaking history stretches all the way back to the French Revolution. In the name of the environment and biodiversity, he and ...

the making. The bouquet hops from the glass in a youthful blend of strawberries, cherries, sweet
cranberry, granitic soil tones, pigeon, woodsmoke and a lovely topnote of fresh thyme. On the
palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very soil-driven in personality, with a lovely core of red
fruit, fine-grained tannins, bouncy acids and fine focus and grip on the long, complex and
seamlessly balanced finish. This will be a terrific example in ...

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2020 Domaine Jean Foillard "Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon. William Kelley of Wine Advocate writes: "As I've written before, it's an open secret that this is one of the region's finest, most consistent addresses, and the just-released 2020 vintage has turned out especially well. Jean and Agnès Foillard's first vintage was in 1981, but it was in 1985 that Jean began to work differently, influenced by his neighbor, the late Marcel Lapierre. Lapierre followed négociant and microbiologist Jules Chauvet in rejecting selected yeasts and manipulative winemaking in favor of minimal effective sulfur dioxide and carbonic maceration at comparatively low temperatures."

92 points John Gilman: "The 2020 Chiroubles from Lafarge-Vial includes thirty percent whole clusters, with the grapes brought in on August 24th in this hot summer. The wine is really very lovely on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in a mix of cherries, sweet cranberries, stony soil tones, fresh herbs and a nice touch of spit-roasted gamebird. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, vibrant and tangy, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil signature and grip, a bit of backend tannin and a long, complex and very well-balance...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2017 Château des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Grand Clos de Rochegrès (94VN, 94WE, 92JS, 92RP, 90JM). Vinous: "Glistening ruby. Oak-spiced cherry and dark berry preserves on the deeply perfumed nose, along with suggestions of mocha, licorice and candied flowers. Plush black and blue fruit flavors show very good clarity and become firmer and spicier through the midpalate. Rich, to be sure, but there's energy here as well. Finishes extremely long and smoky, with building tannins and a lingering cherry cola note. This one deserves some patience. (JR)" (04/2021)

95 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous aromas of stems and spices with crushed berries and beautiful florals. Coffee beans and charcoal, too. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and lovely caressing fruit. Very long and delicious. Made from organic grapes. Very drinkable now but better in a year or two." (02/2017) 94 points Vinous: "Deep vivid ruby. Mineral-accented blackberry, cherry and licorice aromas are complemented by a sexy floral nuance that gains strength with aeration.
