94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Champagne Brut Rose is an attractive pale salmon hue, with a fresh perfume of wild strawberry, ripe peach, white and red flowers, a hint of tropical fruit, and grapefruit. The palate is rounded, with fruit up front and through the mid-palate, and it has a silky and fresh lift. There is a wonderful ease and drinkability to this wine, which delivers balance and finesse. (AF)" (11/2022) 93 points James Suckling: "Attractive salmon color with aromas of dried strawberries and lemons, as well as hints of flowers. Full-bodied wi...

This Champagne comes from a very special plot in Monthelon, just behind the Le Brun house on a southeast facing slope. It is entirely Meunier, half of which was planted in 1952 and the other half in 1902; the oldest living vines that I have seen in Champagne. The village of Monthelon is in the Côteaux de Sud Épernay, one of the coldest microclimates in Champagne, and that cold climate, in tandem with these ancient vines, has given us a truly epic wine. Alex’s craft has added to this — he uses a combination of small oak and large foudres for this wine alo...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A finely textured rosé Champagne, this wine is rich yet with a fine dry core. It is 100% Pinot Noir, structured with acidity as well as red fruits. Drink this fine wine now. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (12/2023) 92 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant version, sleek and satiny, with a subtle entry for flavors of creamed cherry and raspberry puree, almond biscotti, fleur de sel and pink grapefruit zest, but gains momentum and breadth on the palate. Lingering, minerally finish. (AN)" (11/2023) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Champa...

This super rare bottling is made with some of the nearly extinct, native grape varieties of Champagne. It is composed of 40% Petit Meslier, 40% Arbanne, and 20% Pinot Blanc. I think it is the best of the excellent Ariston portfolio. The nose has only hints of exoticism; the overall impression is of rich cream and toast, but underneath is a hint of pine and exotic white fruit from the old varieties. On the palate the Champagne makes for a double take: it is very rich and textural, but finishes with a laser beam of chalky acidity that just goes on and on. ...

Produced from a small estate plot, this Armagnac is aged in 400L barrels and was distilled entirely in 1979. From the importer: "Domaine Séailles is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the Côtes de Gascogne region of Southwest France. A family-owned estate since 1961, Séailles is now run by Jean Labérenne, who lead the domaine to Ecocert organic certification in 1997, swearing off all chemical fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and synthetic chemical products. 89-92 points Burghound: "Note: from a parcel that sits on the opposing hillside from La Forest This is aromatically similar to the Petit Chablis with just a bit more Chablis typicity. There is also better underlying tension and detail that suffuses the medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly more refinement, all wrapped in a more mineral-driven and drier finale. This is excellent for its level and a wine that could also be enjoyed young or held for up to a decade. Buy it. *Burghound Top Value!*" (08/2023) 90-92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Chabl...

If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north—the wrong way, away from the sun—and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some say it's because of a meteor that,...

This wine is selected from Alex's best parcels and made in very small quantities. It is composed of 55% Chardonnay from the grand cru of Chouilly, 35% Pinot Noir from Sezanne and 15% old vine Meunier from Monthelon. It is entirely barrel fermented, and always aged more than 10 years on the lees. If you like a savory, rich, concentrated champagne with a ton of complexity, this tiny production bottle is for you. I love it with foie gras and rich appetizers! -Gary Westby, K&L

89-91 points Wine Advocate: "Exhibiting aromas of sweet stone and orchard fruit mingled with lemon oil and clay liquor, Dauvissat's 2022 Petit Chablis is medium-bodied, ample and fleshy, with lively acids and a mouthwateringly mineral finish. (WK)" (09/2023) 88-90 points Burghound: "Note: from a .40 ha holding A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose combines notes of both white and yellow orchard fruit and those of citrus confit and quinine. The rich and very generous medium weight flavors possess a beguiling texture while coating the palate on the nicely dry ...

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2012 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced for the red wine in this blend was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry, with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the lingering finish.

Roger Voss' selection of the best grower-producers of Champagne: "Michel Arnould & Fils has 30 acres based around Verzenay on the Montagne de Reims. Pinot Noir dominates his production, of which the best are the Cuvée Carte d’Or and Grande Cuvée." If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger, and Krug in the past, you may very much enjoy the bold Champagne of Michel Arnould. The Brut Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir Grand Cru, acquired by assembling different vintages and red Coteaux Champenoises coming from old vines. This lovely rosé Champagne offers h...

The Ariston's vineyards are vastly different than the other blanc de blancs producers that we carry. The steeper slopes, less chalk, and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This is one of my favorite toasting Champagnes, as all of the flavors are up front, and it's open-knit and fun. It is a perfect way to start a party. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

Styles vary tremendously across Armagnac and Domaine Séailles' flavor profile falls firmly in the middle between the two extremes of woody or fruity. The small 2.5 acre plot of Ugni Blanc on clay limestone soils makes for a brandy that has generous fruit, but a mineral backbone that stands up to long aging in French oak. As the brandy crests the 30 year mark it begins to develop distinct secondary sweetness notes as the fruit/wood interplay develops. Lots of maple/molasses/honey tones mark the '89 without sacrificing fruit. The stone fruit flavors jump o...

90 points Burghound: "from a massive 4 ha parcel, 3.5 of which is planted to chardonnay and the remainder to pinot; Morey noted that in 2021 he made only 13 barrels vs his usual production of 90! This is aromatically similar to the Baudines if perhaps just a hair riper. There is excellent intensity to the utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that also exude evident minerality on the slightly better-balanced and longer finale." (06/2023)

This spectacular Champagne is one of the most sought after in France, and Launois' cult status made it very difficult for us to make a purchase. We lucked out, and now we buy it directly, nabbing a top-quality value. This house is from Mesnil, the southernmost Grand Cru in Champagne and home to both Salon and Krug's Clos de Mesnil. This Champagne is 100% Chardonnay and all Grand Cru from the villages of Mesnil, Oger, Cramant and Avize - a roll call of the finest crus for Chardonnay in all of Champagne. Additionally, all the vineyards are Veritas-certifie...

The wonderful Daniel Bouju has become renowned to our customers for his light and ultra fresh "Fine Saveur" offering. But what makes Bouju famous in Europe and around the world are actually his ultra old, unfiltered, cask-strength offerings. The Royal Brut de Fut is one of the most sought-after and well regarded high proof Cognacs made today, but it's been years since we've seen it in California. Nothing is added nor taken away from this high proof blend with a minimum of 15 years of age. It's dark, dry, powerful stuff, but not without a nuanced elegance...

The palate's assertive and fully formed, really expands as it moves, delivering bright red berry and ripe peach and nectarine flavors. There's a little spicy twist through the finish. An expressive style made to drink now." (07/2015) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A blend of equal amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 15 percent Pinot Meunier, this is vinified with...

The Chardonnay gives the wine a steely edge that suggests the bottling could age, so wait to drink this very fine wine from 2023. (RV)" (12/2022) 94 points James Suckling: "Attractive and complex nose of salted almonds, apricots, figs, raspberries and white chocolate. Tangy green apples, too. 91 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Langoa Barton has a lifted nose of small dark cherries, blackberry, incense and marmalade - quite showy for Langoa Barton - but there is joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, ripe and demonstrating impressive density plus a firm grip. This really coats the mouth in tannin, although it is still balanced. It just needs another 4-5 years in bottle, the stubborn little lady. (NM)" (05/2016) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sof...

The wine has a steely edge that suggests this bottling is young but that also has beautiful fruit and minerality. (RV)" (12/2022) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The current release of the NV Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut is based on the 2015 vintage and pours a pale straw color. The result in 2021 was exquisite, with aromas of quince and ripe, almost honeyed apricots. The texture was broad and supple, balanced acidity and a long finish. This wine should open with time to become even more expressive. This interesting wine is produced from a quarter-hectare at the base of the slope just over the border from Meursault. Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. Paul Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my last trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic Brouillet black cherry power, and finishes very dry and super long. It is a powerhouse in the style of a vintage Bollinger, but with even more soul! Like almost all Champagne, this wine has rel...

First year for technical director François Brehant. 70% new oak." We've expanded our selection from one of our favorite Armagnac producers: Domaine de Baraillon. After the success of last year's 1985 vintage brandy, we wanted to introduce you to their younger Folle Blanche selections. This 25 year old Armagnac is distilled from 100% Folle Blanche and exhibits that same unctuous, rich, caramel-laden profile but with more spice and a dusty finish. It's a big time crowd-pleaser of an Armagnac, the kind of thing that will taste good to your great uncle Larry, but still scratch that spirits geek itch in the back of your thr...

We've been carrying the Baraillon Armagnacs for three years now and it's been a match made in heaven for K&L, the Claverie family, and our customers—we're their biggest account and their biggest fans. There's something special about walking into the tasting room at Baraillon, which is really just a little hut next to their home with plastic furniture and humble offerings (like fresh foie gras straight from the farm next door). Mr. Baraillon will come in from feeding the pigs wearing rubber boots, while his daughter Laurence stands by quietly, yet does mo...

94 points John Gilman: "Though the 2018 Grenouilles from Domaine Louis Michel is as ripe as the Vaudésir, it seems just a tad less tropical in personality, as it delivers a refined bouquet of apple, fresh lime, chalky minerality, beeswax, dried flowers and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with a very good girdle of acidity, lovely focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and very promising finish. This is lovely juice." (12/2019) 93 points Wine Advocate: "Wafting from the glass with a...

Always delicious. Best in 2014." (02/2012) 91 points Wine Advocate: "This is one of the most popular wines in the French home marketplace, and no wonder. A sleeper of the vintage, this full-bodied, decadently fruity wine has power, fat, richness and a hedonistic quality that is hard to ignore. However, once past all the glossy, flamboyant fruit, there is st...

95 points Vinous: "Age makes all the difference in Grande Champagne, and at 20 years old, this Cognac has begun to show its elegance and depth. Pronounced aromas of dried rose, peach jam, marmalade, toasted nuts and the beginning of rancio glide softly on to a palate of baked, spiced pear, warm pastry, and a savory note on the finish. My favorite of the Dudognon collection. (JW)" (09/2019) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for a burnished gold hue and mild floral aromas. Musky and otherwise haunting flora scents suggestive of narcissus, peony, and rowan are joined by grapefruit and herbal essences for a striking nose; then reemerge on a silken, expansive, succulent Persian melon- and bittersweet nut-oil-informed palate. Its dense purple color is accompanied by an exquisite bouquet of boysenberries, mulberries, blueberries and other wild mountain blue and black fruits.
