Glenlivet 12 Year Old "Illicit Still" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
New!
Glenlivet is getting back to their roots, a time when distilling was illegal in Scotland, but the whisky was necessarily crafted in small batches, higher proof, and obviously was non chill filtered. Bottled at 48% this is taste of Glenlivet 12 that is more robust and fruity than the classic 12 year old (now called Double Oak).

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged in oak and former Sherry casks, this enticing Scotch has a ripe red-apple scent and rich salted caramel and butterscotch on the palate. It’s powerful, with a thick, buttery feel and a long finish of lip-smacking spice cake and sea brine notes. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "Somehow this 12 year old—a mix of sherry and American oak—is overlooked by malt lovers heading straight to the mental world of a’Bunadh. This is Aberlour at a crucial point in its growth: you’ve lost the maltiness of the 10 year old, but there’s n...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Speyside Scotch is rich with vanilla notes, along with bright tropical fruit and a touch of smoke on the finish. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2013) K&L Notes: This is a great introduction to the Glenfarclas style. This Highland distillery's 12 year is aged in sherry casks and has a nose and palate of spice and sherried fruit, with hints of peat and a lingering spiciness.

92 points Whisky Advocate: "This expression was distilled from malt peated to 12 to 14 ppm, and aged for 9 years in 80% bourbon and 20% sherry casks before a final year in more sherry casks. Sweet smoke on the early nose, with malt, vanilla, quite dry sherry, apple, and toffee. Smoky barley, vanilla, subtle sherry, and light honey on the palate. Peaches, ginger, and woodsmoke on the medium-length finish. Very accomplished. *Editors' Choice* (GS, Summer 2020)" (06/2020) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This copper-hued whiskey offers concentrated caramel, pe...

BenRiach has revamped their entire lineup for 2020. Under Rachel Barrie's (of Glendronach fame) guiding hand the whiskies are better than ever from this often overlooked distillery. The 10 year is a touch smokier and thicker than the Smoky Twelve. The Ten packs a big punch for those that like a bolder style.

Whisky Advocate: "The U.S. Singleton comes from Glendullan, a distillery that makes a sweet, light spirit. Here, a percentage has been aged in ex-sherry casks, which has added a layer of fruity sweetness - think port-like sloe notes, Muscatel, and wisteria. The wood is lightly handled, allowing the aromas full rein on the palate. (DB, Fall 2011)" Wine Enthusiast: " *Best Buy* The nosing passes find aromas of sugar cookies, orange zest, baked pineapple, dry breakfast cereal and citrus-flavored hard candy. Entry is malty sweet, woody and toffee-like; at m...
