This is one of those Kalinda bottlings that if we could tell you who made it...or put their name on the bottle...it would be gone in less than 24 hours. The 2019 Kalinda Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is sourced from some of the finest organic and biodynamic vineyards in the region and crafted by one of the country's true legends of Pinot Noir. This winery's releases are typically mailing list only, or found on top wine lists across the country. 2016 Hanzell "Estate" Sonoma Valley Chardonnay (Elsewhere $65+) (Elsewhere $65+)
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This impressive white delivers a core of quince, lemon rind and apple that blends with accents of white flower and lemongrass. Crisp acidity drives the freshness on the textured palate, offering elegance and plenty of layers of intrigue. This will do well in the cellar; enjoy 2021 - 2026. (VB)" (05/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay is a very pretty, understated wine from Hanzell. Lifted, gracious and quite subtle, it is super-expressive today. Readers should expect a finessed, translucent, incredibly distinctive C...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard is slightly deeper colored (it's still translucent) and offers a gorgeous nose of ripe redcurrants, cherries, spring flowers, sappy forest floor, and ample spice nuances. With medium to full body, beautiful depth of fruit, and a seamless texture, it's another stunning Pinot Noir from this team that I'd be happy to have in the cellar." (09/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard is wonderfully expressive right out of the gate. Rose petals, mint, dried herbs, pine and blood or...

2012 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
98 points John Gilman: "The wine was finished in 2012 with a dosage of 7.5 grams per liter and offers up a beautiful young nose of pear, apple, fresh lemon, white flowers, a very complex base of chalky minerality, a hint of the caraway seed to come and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a racy girdle of acidity, a rock solid core, impeccable focus and grip, refined mousse and stunning length and grip on the poised and perfectly balanced finish. This is another great vintage of Cristal in th...

2018 Château de L'Ou "Secret de Schistes" Côtes Catalanes
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I continue to love this cuvée from Bourrier, and her 2018 Côtes Catalanes Secret De Schistes is another Northern Rhône-like Syrah sourced all from schists soils and brought up in plenty of new oak, although the oak is so well integrated you'd never know it. Deep purple, with a great nose of flowery red and blue fruits, graphite, crushed stone, ground pepper, and violets, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, plenty of finely polished tannins, and outstanding length. It's a more stream...

92 points John Gilman: "As I have written in the past, I adore Lore Olds’ beautiful Zinfandel bottlings from his Sky Vineyards, located up above Mayacamas on the top of Mount Veeder. The vineyards are farmed organically, the winery is powered by a single solar panel and the wine is raised in barrels that range from one to ten years of age. The 2014 Zinfandel is the current release from this iconic producer, coming in at an even fourteen percent octane and offering up a beautifully refined and complex nose of black raspberries, dried eucalyptus, spit-roas...

It's rich and concentrated, yet also elegant, weightless, and layered, with notable complexity." (08/2018) K&L Notes: Xavier Vignon was always a scientist at heart and began his studies in pharmacology in Reims in the Champagne region. A chance encounter with an oenologist ignited his passion for wine and set him on a new path where he quick...

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean Louis Denois makes exciting, world-class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ...

2019 Domaine de la Ganse Vacqueyras
Top Pick!
Coralie Onde is from the winemaking family behind Domaine les Ondines, but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate in 2008. She formed Domaine de la Ganse in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit, also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to 9 hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014. Her vines are aged from 15 to 55 years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). Her Vacqueyras is a blend of...

Solemme "Terre Solemme" 1er Cru Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
La Petite Montagne, the small mountain of Reims, makes for harder bike riding than the “big” one. It is relentlessly hilly, devoid of even the smallest of flat areas. This little area to the west of the road between Reims and Epernay not only has steep slopes; it also has quite chalky soils, and is home to some of the best Premier Cru vineyards in Champagne. It is here, in Villers-Aux-Noeuds, that Olivier Langlais farms his fifteen acres of organic vineyards. Olivier has incredible dedication to biodynamics, and even disgorges his wine according to the m...

2017 Rippon "Mature Vine" Pinot Noir Lake Wanaka Central Otago
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "This offers aromas of violets, blueberries, red and dark cherries, fragrant, freshly cracked black pepper and wet dark stones. Complex, but still tightly wound and reserved. The palate is very concentrated, dense and elegantly poised with such powerful tannin, carrying concentrated blueberry and dark-cherry flavors long. Really taut, fully ripe and mouthwateringly intense Pinot Noir. Dark cherry-pit freshness to close. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better in five years." 2016 Domaine Benedetti Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As to the reds, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is sensational juice! Made from 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault, brought up in 20% new barrels (the balance was in old barrels and concrete), it boasts tons of black cherry, earth, graphite, and peppery garrigue notes in a rich, powerful, yet beautifully balanced package. This cuvée comes from the La Crau, Pradel and Saintes Vierges lieux-dits, which are a mix of rolled stones and clay." (08/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chateaune...

Domaine Begude was purchased in 2003 by British couple James and Catherine Kinglake. The Kinglakes converted the vineyard over to organic farming, using only natural fertilizers and no irrigation. Today their wines are among our best direct imports with an array including Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir and even Grüner Veltliner. The wines are made by Laurent Girault, a native of Charente who has made wine all over France as well as New Zealand’s Central Otago region. 2016 Domaine Benedetti "Larmes Papales" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The special cuvée is the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Larmes Papales, 100% Grenache that was brought up in concrete tanks and demi-muids. Just sensational anyway you look at it, with flamboyant notes of blackberries, roasted herbs, melted licorice, and Asian spices, this beauty is ripe, powerful, and full-bodied, with sweet tannin and a great finish. It’s for the Grenache lovers out there and will keep for 10-15 years. Despite its rich, powerful style, this beauty just glides over the palate. Bravo!" (08/2018) 95 points Robert P...

2019 Château de L'Ou "Secret de Schistes" Côtes Catalanes Blanc
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "My favorite white from this estate is the 2019 Côtes Catalanes Secret De Schistes Blanc. Its medium gold hue is followed by a mineral-laced, rich, concentrated white with lots of tangerine and citrus fruits, medium to full body, a nicely concentrated, richer, textured mouthfeel, bright acidity, and complex orange blossom, spice, and sappy flower-like nuances. Made from mostly Grenache Gris, it has lots of class and will shine on the dinner table. You can safely enjoy bottles over the coming 3-5 years, and I suspect it will have an...

Wilson Foreigner is a small winery that produces three wines. It is co-owned by two families. David & Christine Wilson live on their family vineyard in Napa’s Wooden Valley. Chris and Suzaan Alheit live and work in South Africa. A beautiful terroir skillfully worked by Jérômine Paret and Philippe Garnier. Responding to the call of his parents, Jérômine gave up a career as an English teacher to take over the family estate. She then studied business and allied herself with Philippe Garnier, who has one goal in mind: to achieve excellence. She does not regret her choices today and her customers don't either! Thus, the estate evolves each year with new wines and techniques. The organically-farmed grapes for the rosé are evenly split between Carignan and Grenache with a touch each of...

By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and another 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly-Fumé, just across the Loire River. There is a tart citrus line to the palate, which cuts through the creamier peach and melon flavors, wrapped in paraffin-like tannins." 2019 Domaine Belle "Les Pierrelles" Crozes-Hermitage
Top Pick!
The roots of the Belle family run deep in Hermitage and extend back to the 18th century when the family began acquiring vines in the region. When descendant Louis Belle assumed control of the property he preferred tending vines over making wine. In 1933, Louis became one of the founding members of the Cave de Tain, the local cooperative. It was not until 2003 when grandson Philippe began making wines for the domaine. Picks up savory mineral details midpalate, while hints of cardamom and coriander mark the prolonged finish. Drink now through 2027. (AZ)" (11/2019) K&L Notes: Stephane Riffault, son of Claude Riffault, is turning out some of the best Sancerres in the region. After working with Olivier Leflaive in Beaune, you can see a streak of Burdundian sensibility in Stephane's winemaking style. With 13 hectares of vines across 4 vil...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fermented and aged in wood, this Champagne is still young but is showing fine potential. The wine's acidity gives it a crisp texture and brings out the citrus and green-apple flavors along with the nervy edge. It will certainly age, so wait to drink until 2022. (RV)" (12/2020) K&L Notes: This Champagne was made in the most expensive way possible. The entire Brison estate is organic, and the wine is entirely barrel fermented. The Verquière estate has been passed down from father to son for four generations and is now managed by Thibaut Chamfort. Following age-old traditions and sustainable practices, the estate was certified organic in 2014. Following their wines for many years, we were happy to add them to our Direct Import portfolio in 2015. The Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, grown on chalky clay soils with loads of large pebbles in the vineyards. Established in 2005 by Henri Le Roy in the Côtes du Jura, Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes focuses on producing terroir-driven wines from local varietals. The 'Le Clous' is made from 100% Savagnin, known in his sub-region as Naturé. Savagnin is in the Traminer family of grape varieties, a close cousin of Gewurztraminer, though Savagnin is much more citrus driven with high acitiy and a mineral focused palate. These gives way to a medium-bodied, elegant Gigondas that has fine tannins, good acidity, and the class to evolve for over a decade. It’s well worth seeking out! 98 points Decanter: "Aromatically slightly subdued, though there is a sense of great freshness. Thyme emerges after a while along with a smoky bacon note. Fluid and fast-moving in the mouth, there's a great sense of tension and intensity on the palate. The tannins are present, like fine sand in texture with a very light grain. This feels painfully young to drink now. There's no serious reduction, and this will have a lot to give when the time comes. It exudes balance and power, but try to wait for this to show its best. Sweet plum, graphite, lavender and spice develop in the glass, but it is the wine's exceptional balance and captivating beauty that stand out most. The richness of the vintage has filled out the wine's classically built frame nicely. Even so, what comes through is a powerful, structured Diamond Mountain Cabernet that exudes class and polish from the first taste to the last. Don't miss it.
