2013 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Perfumed with apple, green mangoes, perfume and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied with a creamy and integrated texture and a subtle finish. Bitters. Botanicals. Intense." (07/2023) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Vivid acidity and a chalky underpinning make a crystalline frame for finely detailed notes of ripe melon, mandarin orange, toasted brioche and candied ginger in this harmonious Champagne, which is expressive and expansive on the palate, but with a sense of finesse and restraint. Long and creamy on the mineral-laced finish. (AN)"...

2013 Launois "Special Club" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (Ships as a 1.5L Due to Bottle Size/Shape)
Top Pick!
Without a doubt, this is one of the best Champagnes we carry at any price. This is made from the Launois "mother vines" the massal selected old vines planted from 1947-1953 on the best mid-slope sites of their grand cru vineyards in Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. This is the last special club that they will ever produce, as they are moving to a proprietary tete-de-cuvee in the future. This shows off how well Chardonnay did in 2013 with laser like focus and a display of chalk that is hard to find in any other bottling, but at the same time remains creamy and g...

2010 Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
"The first ever straight vintage rosé from the masters of the style at Billecart. This wine is composed of 55% Chardonnay from the grand crus of Chouilly, Mesnil and Cramant and 45% Pinot Noir from Verzenay, Mareuil and Ludes. The red wine comes from ancient vines in the Valleofois vineyard just next to the Clos des Goisses in Mareuil. This incredible wine has the pure, subtle fruit that this great house is famous for on a frame that is as delicate and fine as one could imagine. The finish is nearly blanc de blanc like, with excellent lift and great chal...

2014 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Revelation" Extra Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
This Champagne comes from a very special plot in Monthelon, just behind the Le Brun house on a southeast facing slope. It is entirely Meunier, half of which was planted in 1952 and the other half in 1902; the oldest living vines that I have seen in Champagne. The village of Monthelon is in the Côteaux de Sud Épernay, one of the coldest microclimates in Champagne, and that cold climate, in tandem with these ancient vines, has given us a truly epic wine. Alex’s craft has added to this — he uses a combination of small oak and large foudres for this wine alo...

2010 Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival, Elsewhere $200) (Pre-Arrival, Elsewhere $200)
Top Pick!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A tour de force from Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte matches the 2009 in terms of quality but possesses a more dense, powerful, compact style. Absolutely heavenly aromatics of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked tobacco, scorched earth, and truffle all define the aromatics, and it takes air to show at its best today. With full-bodied richness, massive concentration, and building tannins, it's flawless balanced, has an insane level of purity, and incredible length on the finish. This brilliant, brilliant Graves will ...

2018 Mt. Beautiful "12 Barrels" Sauvignon Blanc North Canterbury (Elsewhere $28) (Elsewhere $28)
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "On the restrained side, relatively speaking, this white offers attractive aromas of tangerine, lime blossom and honeysuckle, with just a suggestion of oak. The palate harmonizes texture with refreshment, echoing the nose, but adding white spice on the lengthy finish. The oak supports, adding weight, texture and complexity. (CP)" (09/2020) 92 points Bob Campbell: "Quite a serious Sauvignon with good weight and a pleasingly rich texture. A hint of tropical fruit with melon, nectarine and nutty yeast lees flavours. Dry but not ...

2009 Bodegas Riojanas "Monte Real" Gran Reserva Rioja (Elsewhere $40) (Elsewhere $40)
Top Pick!
93 points John Gilman: "The 2009 Monte Real Gran Reserva is an excellent wine, offering up a complex and now nicely mature bouquet of red and black raspberries, Cuban cigar wrapper, cinnamon and clove-like spice tones, a lovely base of quite salty soil tones, a hint of celery seed and a lovely framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and starting to get quite velvety on the attack, with a lovely core and soil signature, still a fair bit of ripe tannin and a long, tangy and very complex finish. At twelve years of age, this wine i...

Finally, the great 2010 Gran Reserva from our favorite Rioja winery has arrived! As is the case with so many other great spots in Spain, Bodega Casa Juan is located opposite the village church, in the beautiful walled pueblo of Laguardia. The winery is a converted flour mill, featuring concrete tanks for fermenting and blending the wine, and barrels that are used for up to seven years. These are traditional Riojas in elaboration and spirit, though the site specificity of their Laguardia and Villabuena vineyards confers a fruit character all its own to th...

Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import, or even carry from Champagne at just 7.5 acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to negociants--his production is just one thousand cases a year total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and this hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and this wine comes from just two rows in the grand cru of Chouilly, in a plot called La Derriere du Mont Aigu. This is elect...

Château de Sarenceau is a family property and the 4th generation runs it today. This small estate of only 9 hectares allows a precise and careful work of the vines. This is the first time we have carried this property and it was our biggest buy on April 2022 trip. Rare enough to be underlined, this Saint-Emilion is a 100% Merlot! It offers an evolved nose, with notes of truffle, plum and licorice. The mouth opens with a lot of fruit and freshness, and it finishes with ripe black fruit flavors. A great wine from a great vintage. Will cellar well 10 mor...

Full body and incredibly integrated with blackberry, licorice, and minerals. There's a wonderful purity to this. It goes on for minutes. The quality of tannins is amazing. Seamless. There's an amazing transparency that shows you all the elements of the wine's unique terroir." 2001 Barde-Haut, St-Emilion (Elsewhere $80) (Elsewhere $80)
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Even better, the 2001 Château Barde-Haut offers a full-bodied, beautifully textured style on the palate as well as incredibly complex notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco, and Asian spices. With resolved tannins, a great mid-palate, and a concentrated, rich, powerful style, it's another 2001 that's drinking brilliantly today." (03/2020) 90 points Vinous: "The 2001 Barde Haut has an open-knit nose of black plum and crushed strawberry; subtle, almost gamy aromas develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a pliant...

91 points John Gilman: "The 1996 Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil “Vieilles Vignes” is the first wine I have ever tasted from Domaine Taluau and I was quite impressed. Monsieur Taluau started with a couple of hectares of vines in 1970 and has planted more on his estate as the years have allowed; he was joined full-time at the domaine by his daughter Véronique and her husband, Thierry Foltzenlogel in 1993. The domaine’s ’96 Vieilles Vignes bottling of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil is deep and complex on the nose, offering up scents of dark berries, cassis, tree ba...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "The tannins are very fine, with rich fruitcake and smoky flavors. Red berry and black plums give a fruity character, along with delicious acidity. The wine is structured while still remaining very approachable. *Top 100 Wines of 2012* (RV)" (04/2012) 92 points James Suckling: "Big and massive wine for this appellation. Some may say too much but loads of fruit underneath. Full and chewy. 92 points James Suckling: "Classy red here with currants, blueberries and mahogany aromas. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. Intense and powerful. " (07/2014) K&L Notes: Situated near St-Estephe about 10 min north of Montrose, these vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cab Franc. On the stone lintel of the door's oldest vat of Verdignan there is engraved a date: 1720! The 2009 is a great bargain from Bordeaux.

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another magical wine from this property, the 2009 Château Cos D'Estournel reminds me slightly of the 2005 with its incredibly rich, powerful, opulent style married to stunning finesse and elegance. Still youthful yet with a touch of maturity, its deep ruby/plum color is followed by classic Saint-Estèphe notes of blackcurrants, dried tobacco, loamy earth, Asian spices, and licorice. Deep, full-bodied, and massive on the palate, it's flawlessly balanced and has building tannins hiding under its wealth of fruit, with no hard edges a...

Wine Spectator: "This fleshy red shows black cherry, spice and herb flavors with firm tannins. It has good concentration and while it's drinkable now, it should improve. " (06/1997) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. After Joel passed away, his daughter Veronique now makes wines with the help of her husband, Thierry Foltzenlogel...

Best ever from here. " (02/2013) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Juicy and engaging, offering dark plum, raspberry coulis and sweet tobacco notes at the core, studded with wood spice and licorice snap accents. 2011 Michel Arnould "Cuvée B 50" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north—the wrong way, away from the sun—and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some say it's because of a meteor that,...

Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Chardonnay Cellar Note comes from a handful of sites on the Sonoma Coast and spent 11 months in 30% new French oak. White flowers, crushed citrus, honeysuckle, and brioche notes all emerge from this beauty. It's another rich, textured Chardonnay that stays fresh and lively. With subtle background oak and terrific balance, it's going to keep nicely for at least 4-6 years, probably longer." (05/2021)

2012 Dérot-Delugny Millesime Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $50+) (Elsewhere $50+)

This 30-acre estate only keeps one third of their production for making their own Champagne, selling off the rest of their fruit. They are the oldest grower-producer in their village. They have been estate-bottling Champagne since 1929, and they’ve been growing grapes longer than written records go back. Everything is aged in a hillside cellar that is over 50 feet deep at the back. This great 2012 Champagne is composed of half each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the oldest vines on the estate. 1989 d'Yquem Sauternes (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jane Anson: "This took home the audience award at the 67 Pall Mall tasting that I was hosting, with good reason. What a brilliant example of why Sauternes should be left to gather nuance and to shed its more exuberant, fattier early years before opening. This is just a masterclass in the layers and complexity that you find in fully mature Yquem; saffron, truffle, pineapple, quince, lime, apricots and lemon. Hugely persistent with a squeeze of scraping slate acidity through the final few minutes that gives a dry but mouthwatering finish. It is ...

Full and super silky with lovely fruit. Gourmand. Tasty. I want to drink it. Always great value!" (04/2011) 92 points Vinous: "Fully saturated inky-ruby. Somewhat oak-dominated on the nose presently, with aromas of red cherry, rose petal, graphite and brown spices. 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A consistently perfect wine every time I've had it, the 2009 Château Pontet-Canet is the greatest wine from this address to date as well as one of the greatest Pauillacs out there. Still youthfully ruby/purple and with a gorgeous perfume of blackcurrants, lead pencil, graphite, crushed rocks, and damp earth, it's still youthful but is just now starting to show more nuance and complexity. Full-bodied on the palate, with a powerful, concentrated mid-palate, incredible depth of fruit, and flawless balance, Bordeaux simply does not g...

2018 Sarno 1860 "Erre" Fiano di Avellino
Top Pick!
93 points Vinous: "White flowers and chamomile give way to freshly sliced apple, crushed almond and stone as the 2018 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Erre slowly awakens. This coats the entire palate in silken richness, yet it maintains perfect poise, as mineral-tinged stone fruits give way to brown spice under an air of pretty inner florals. There’s an almost-crunchy feel to the finale, yet also a balanced inner sweetness combined with residual acids that creates a sense of total harmony, as hints of lime and melon slowly taper off. It could benefit from aging, at least three years, to bring out the inherent richness of the wine. *Wine Enthusiast Best of 2009* (RV)" (07/2009) Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, this constant over-achiever’s 2007 exhibits notes of plum sauce, soy, spice box, and unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco. Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. The 2013 Millésime is a blend of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier, and 15% Pinot Noir and aged eight years on the lees, with 8g/L dosage. 2009 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. All of the grapes for his red wines come from his own 26 hectares, on chalky clay soil, all within the Rioja Alta village of Abalos. Felix, Jesús's older brother, handles the winemaking (as well as packing all our orders--gracias, Felix!). A fascinating sparkling wine from Sandhi with a long time ageing on lees and significant ageing on the cork before release. This wine combines the power of old vine Sanford & Benedict Chardonnay with aged vintage Champagne chracters for a truly unique experience. 100% Chardonnay from Sanford & Benedict's original, own-rooted plantings from 1971. The base wine was aged in neutral barrique before being bottled for secondary fermentation. It then spent 40 months sur lie. It was bottled with zero dosage, then aged for 5 years on the cork post disgorgement. J...

Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Aviza, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Stainless steel, 100% malo and six years sur lattes. Dosage 2.5 g/l. Smells of sour cream and lemon zest. Lots of groovy, grooved bitterness, lots of dusty spice and stone dust. This wine is much more about the finish; the mid palate backfills right at the end. I love the contrast of the rich smoothness and ‘thickness’ of sour cream with the tiny, sharp, peppery, ground-rocks sensation of the bubbles. (TC)" (05/2023)

2018 Vivo Carneros Chardonnay (Elsewhere $75) (Elsewhere $75)
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Advocate: "From the Hyde vineyard, the 2018 Chardonnay vivo has open-knit aromas of baked apples and lemon peel, cut hay, saline and almonds with a spicy undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied, silky and super energetic, opulent but pleasantly punishing in its raciness all at once, broad then precise, savory then citrusy, with incredibly addicting juiciness begging for another sip on the very long, coiled finish. This is fantastic, singular, super structured and should age a very long time in bottle. Wow! About 100 cases were made. Cali...

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. It boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious notes of spring flowers, blackberries, black raspberries and wet rocks. The wine’s gravelly minerality and spectacular opulence and density make it an instant classic. … It showed incredibly well last year, and it still reveals the potential to possibly merit a 3-digit score – it’s that special. Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2012 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced for the red wine in this blend was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry, with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the lingering finish.

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. This is one of the extremely rare examples of a pure Chardonnay Champagne from the Aube department. It comes from one plot, at the highest elevation in the village of Les Riceys, all on Kimmeridgian clay soil, the same as in Chablis. In fact, this plot is less than three miles from the boarder with Burgundy, and over its long history belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy as often as to the Comtes of Champagne! (NM)" (11/2011) K&L Notes: Tasting note from Chris Kissack of TheWineDoctor.com: "This vintage, perhaps unsurprisingly, looks a little more advanced than the 2006 just tasted. This Champagne is composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. All of the fruit is estate grown from the Ariston's vineyards in Brouillet — La Vallée Brouillet might be my very favorite place in all of Champagne. I love the rolling landscape, the mix of mustard, vineyard, and colza fields. But most of all I love the quiet peace of this secluded northwestern part of the region.
