Monica Larner reports: "The Ermacora family estate is located among the gentle hills of Ipplis and Montsclapade ad Orsaria in the township of Premariacco. This area has vineyards from 120 to 150 meters in altitude with mineral-rich marl soils that are also especially rich in organic material. These conditions favor old vines, with some estate plants now over the 50-year mark. Nicola Ermacora is working toward sustainable farming practices. The estate farms 40 hectares of vines and inaugurated its new winery in 2019."

Wine & Spirits: "This wine’s candied-apple flavors meet some malic acidity, making it fleshy and refreshing in a rustic way." (08/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of wet earth and apple combine on the nose of this wine. Frothy fizz enhances these notions on the palate where they are joined by lemony freshness. The finish is dry, lively and fresh. (AK)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s that is. 2020 Cantina Terlano "Terlaner Cuvée" Alto Adige
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "The flinty minerality and intense wild-herb aromas set the ripe-citrus aromas of this concentrated, racy Alpine dry white alight! So much mountain freshness and minerality at the long, high-energy finish. A cuvée of pinot bianco, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc that dates back to this producer’s foundation in 1893. Drink or hold." (04/2021) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Representing excellent value, this release of about a quarter-million bottles is not at all what you would expect from a production of this scale. ...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Alto Adige Weissburgunder Pinot Bianco Karneid is beautifully light and fragrant with moderate overall aromatic intensity. The right accents are delivered in the right doses. The bouquet shows bright flashes of citrus, white peach and, of course, those unmistakable mineral tones that remind you of the white dolomitic rocks of this mountainous area. One-third of the wine is aged in barrique and tonneaux. (ML) 91+" (09/2019)

92 points James Suckling: "A layered, dry pinot blanc with dried lemons, apples and pears. It’s full-bodied and delicious. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap." (09/2020)

Winery notes: When Alsation clones of Pinot Blanc becae available in Oregon, a small test plot was planted in Eyrie's Sisters Vineyard. The Block was doubled in the late 1990's. The corp is picked by hand, destemed, pressed, and run through small stainless stell tanks to ferment and age. We take the slow approach; our Pinot Blanc ages 3-4 times longer than most commercial versions before bottling.
