Kalinda is the long running house label for K&L that over the years has been the conduit for secret wines from some of the very top producers in the country. Silver Oak, Kosta Browne, Lewis Cellars, Turnbull, Duckhorn, and Cakebread are just some of the names that have supplid wines for this program in years gone by. However, none are as exclusive and more sought after than the winery that made this particular wine! So much so that we can't even buy their regular wines because they're strictly only availble to mailing list members and high-end restaurant...

Ribbon Ridge is often considered the prime sub-region in the Willamette Valley for world-class Pinot Noir. This tiny appellation is home to icons such as Beaux Freres, Sequitur, Ribbon Ridge Estate, Patricia Green, Brick House and more. Norris planted their small 10 acre estate in 2007 to a mix of heritage clones (Coury, Wädenswil, Pommard), plus some Dijon 667 and 115. The soils are Wilakenzie, an ancient marine sedimentary soil. Having learnt his craft at famed wineries such as Williams-Selyem, The Hilt / Jonata, Trisaetum, Craggy Range and others, own...

96 points Decanter: "Pommard, Wadenswil (50%) and a bit of Dijon, the youngest vines on the Maresh estate, are from 1997, as well as plantings from 1991, 83, and 70, all of it own-rooted. Earth and rose petals announce gorgeous aromatics. Winemaker Jim Maresh destems 100%. It sees 18-24 months in barrel. At $33.50, this may be the best deal in American wine. Earthen aromatics, pine bough, and blood orange spritz. The palate is fresh with blue and red bramble fruits, spicy clove and savoury herbaceousness. (CP)" (07/2024) 93 points James Suckling: "A lo...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a very low-alcohol, brisk and racy style of Pinot Noir, starting with sour cherry and rustic bay leaf aromas. The palate packs orange rind and lemon pith flavors against pomegranate and dusty sage. (MK)" (03/2023)

92 points James Suckling: " Tart red fruit on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins and outstanding balance. The palate displays dusty red fruit with dried flowers and mineral notes on the finish." (03/2024) 92 points Vinous: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Un is remarkably pretty, with a lifted blend of dusty rose and violet pastille accentuating dried strawberries. This model of purity is lifted and refined with crisp red and blue fruits swirling across a stream of brisk acidity. The 2022 leaves a coating of fine...

This all estate grown rosé is based on old-vine Chardonnay from Chouilly and Cramant. It gets its rosé color and flavor from an ancient plot of Meunier grown just between the villages of Chavot and Monthelon south of Epernay. It is a refreshing, elegant style of rosé, great for the aperitif or to pair with a smoked salmon appetizer. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
97 points Decanter: "The Romanée-Saint-Vivant remains a significant step above the Echézeaux and Grands Echézeaux in this portfolio, with a deeper colour and a richer, riper black plum fruit character. The floral elements noticed in barrel are still pronounced, along with a brambly note from the whole cluster ferment and a bit more liquorice spice than it showed earlier in its evolution. The texture on the palate has smoothed out now; there is more depth and richness and less grippy tannins than noted in the fall after the vintage. Picked 27 – 28 Septemb...

96 points Sam Kim: "This is seductively complex and enticing on the nose, showing dark berry, bouquet garni, roasted nut and dried mushroom aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's both refined and robust. It's expansive and finely textured with beautifully pitched tannins, making it splendidly structured and lingering. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2035." (11/2023) 94 points James Suckling: " Very clear and precise on the nose with strawberries, iodine, graphite and some stony undertones. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins, juicy fruit ...

98 points Bob Campbell: "Elegant, seamless pinot noir with fragrant, floral, red rose, dark cherry, anise, spice and restrained savoury and fresh herb characters. It's a complex medley of appealing flavours supported by an ethereal texture and a lingering finish. A surprisingly accessible wine from an excellent vintage. Should develop well with bottle age." (01/2022) 98 points James Suckling: "A complex wine from the outset with gently reductive notes and modern oak spice threading into fresh cherry, spiced bread, rose, forest wood and blood orange, as...

This great bottle comes from the far northern edge of Champagne in the Massif St-Thierry, north of Reims. All of the vines for this 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Meunier cuvée come from Cormincy, the last village in Champagne before the flats facing out towards the Ardennes. As one would expect from a Blanc de Noir, this is a full-bodied wine with plenty of savory red fruit flavor. Due to its far northern provenance, this Champagne also has great snap and refreshment to balance out its power. - Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

94 points Vinous: "An enticing blend of dried roses, peppery spice and woodland berries wafts up from the 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard. This is vividly fruit-focused yet crisp in feel, with tactile minerals adding a crunchy sensation as tart red and blue fruits swirl throughout. It tapers off youthfully tense, leaving a staining of primary concentration while silty tannins frame the experience well. (EG)" (05/2024) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard pours a vibrant ruby/magenta color and is highly expressive in t...

Supremely vibrant and perfumed with fine tannins that run the length of the medium-bodied palate. Textural. Ground spice and fresh fruit are intertwined, providing wonderful depth and complexity. So long as well. Seamless balance. Superb. Sustainable. " (10/2022) 96 points Bob Campbell: "Deep crimson. We can tell you this much: our Kalinda private label hooks you up with awesome wine at a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay for this exact same wine under its normal label. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Get it while it lasts.

96 points Decanter: "60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grands and premiers crus; 15% fermented in old oak barrels. The complexity and richness of Special Cuvée is unparalleled among the entry non-vintage blends of every Champagne house, short of ascending to the mesosphere of Krug. Its grand recipe explains why, built on incredible depth of 50%-60% reserves. Triumphant complexity is a given at Bollinger, but it’s the dynamic freshness and vitality that really set it apart as one of the most afforda...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An estate-grown wine given 30% whole-cluster fermentation, this is a fleshy and lively red wine, broad in appeal and funky earthiness. Forest, black tea and spicy white pepper dominate a lighthearted palate of silky texture and elegance. (VB)" (11/2021) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Pinot Noir West Pole is outstanding as well as a notable value. 97 points James Halliday: "Whole berry/bunch open fermentation for 3 weeks; matured for 10 months in French oak. The Willowlake vineyard is one of the first to venture to the Upper Yarra. Balance is the key word for this beautiful pinot, the red cherry/berry fragrance is mirrored by the palate, where delicate but clear savoury notes of spice are woven through the red fruit palate and aftertaste." (11/2022) 96 points Bob Campbell: "Medium-deep red-purple colour; intense and bright spice aromas, nutty/smoky barrel and foresty fruit aromas combine to give...

This translates to the palate, where it is sweet-fruited and charming, with gorgeous flavour and mouth-feel. The fruit-sweet core is succulent, the flow beautifully even and lingering. A lovely pinot noir. (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)" (12/2022) 96 points James Halliday: "A blend of MV6, C777 and C115 clones from the 2008-planted Henk vineyard at Woori Yallock. Wine Advocate: "The pale pink NV Brut Rosé Crémant d'Alsace Charles Baur is based on Pinot Noir from Eguisheim from 2019 and spent 18 months on lees. A gentle yeastiness with red apple flavors is countered by vivid freshness. Fine red apple fruit also characterizes the palate which is bright and light and slender but has pristine flavors and a lovely length. 95 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind in Hong Kong, the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts 2004 does everything to convince me that I had this brilliant wine correct when I tasted it from barrel. Deep in colour, there is an initial burst of red berry fruit intermingling with shaved black truffle and cigar box, a little autumnal perhaps, but very well defined. The palate has real guts and substance, the new oak melded into the fabric of the wine, silky smooth in texture with a vitamin-like purity toward the energetic finish. What a great les Malconsor...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Pinot Noir Jessie James Vineyard sports a deeper ruby hue, although it’s still clear, and it’s fantastic now in the glass, opening with notes of black and red fruit, wild violets, piney herbs, and layered earth. Medium-bodied, with a lot of completeness, it’s super-seamless in its structure, with ripe tannins, even, mouthwatering acidity, and a long finish. It’s seamless on the palate, with plush, velvety tannins, clean, even acidity, and a lovely, tapered finish, which floats away ever so slowly. This is another outstanding wine from this site, which was purchased by Resonance (Jadot) in 2022. Drink it over the next 20 years. (AF)" (08/2024) 95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Pinot N...

From K&L On the Trail blog: "Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Folktale Winery was founded in 2015 by a group of artists, craftspeople, and lovers of life who wanted to create a place where stories and wines could be shared. They use organic and biodynamic farming practices and low-intervention winemaking techniques. The winery is situated on 15 acres of sustainably-farmed vineyards and gardens along the Carmel River.
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fat black-cherry aromas are spiced by cola and clove on the nose of this bottling. The palate is framed by dusty tannins, with more cherry-cola components taking center stage. *Best Buy* (MK)" (12/2023)
As Neal Martin writes: "Nuiton-Beaunoy is a co-operative of around 115 growers in the Cotes and Hautes Cotes. Anyone who has driven south from Beaune would have passed their enormous facility at the roundabout leading to either Meursault or Pommard." Their wines offer the best of collectives: Excellent value wines made from grapes hand-tended by devoted small farmers.

Burghound: "An ultra-fresh and nicely ripe nose freely offers up its pretty aromas of mostly red pinot fruit and soft earth scents. The racy, delicious and attractively textured middleweight flavors conclude in a dusty and lightly austere finale. While this could be approached young, 2 to 5 years of keeping should round off the finish and develop more depth." (01/2024) Jasper Morris: "Plots on the sand for the most part. A bright purple. Lean, austere, fresh. Red berries with even a chocolate note behind. Drier finish but enough fruit. Ready to bottle....

Elisabeth Goutorbe and her husband Jean-Marie Egrot run their tiny production Champagne house almost entirely by themselves. They get very little help from their cat Maurice, but can rely on Elisabeth’s father, René Goutorbe of Champagne Henri Goutorbe for a little bit of help. Of the 15 acres they own in Aÿ, Louvois, Tauxieres and Mutigny, they only keep the fruit from their 2.5 best—mostly in Aÿ, but also a touch of Louvois Chardonnay for balance. 92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Seafarer showed beautifully, with a darker strawberry, plum, and mulberry-driven profile offering lots of cooler peppery herb, violet, and underbrush-like nuances. It's medium-bodied, silky, and elegant on the palate." (08/2023)
94-97 points Jasper Morris: "A clear fresh mid purple. The bouquet is really very stylish, more floral. Also with a fresh raspberry touch, and some red cherries. Super texture in the mouth, not a blockbuster at all, but a very evenly balanced fruit with some alpine strawberries to finish. Note the particularly fine long aftertaste. This is the only wine to be racked. The tannins that shape the fruit in the mouth are whisper fine and curl and curve their way across the tongue. This is a beautiful wine with grace and poise." 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Like many of Te Mata's 2020 reds, this young pup needs a little time to open if drinking now. Once it does, there're elegant aromas of cherry and blueberry fruit, violets and roses, ground black pepper, cloves and a slight meatiness in a well-tucked bed of mocha oak. Tangy red fruit on the silky palate is tightly wound by fine tannins and lifted by a crunch of acidity. A unique Pinot that bears the Te Mata stamp of place, polish, freshness and structure.
