94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Champagne Brut Rose is an attractive pale salmon hue, with a fresh perfume of wild strawberry, ripe peach, white and red flowers, a hint of tropical fruit, and grapefruit. The palate is rounded, with fruit up front and through the mid-palate, and it has a silky and fresh lift. There is a wonderful ease and drinkability to this wine, which delivers balance and finesse. (AF)" (11/2022) 93 points James Suckling: "A succulent, delicious and precise brut rosé, made of chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot noir. It has notes of w...

This single-walled vineyard is the top of the line from Fallet-Dart. Although not labeled as a vintage, it is 100% 2006 and composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir that is barrel fermented. It is aged for over 12 years on the lees before release. The word "tirage" in French, which appears on the back label, means "bottling", and this all 2006 champagne was bottled in fall of 2007 and has spent an incredible 12 plus years on the lees. At just 7.5 acres, Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer from Champagne that we import, or even carry. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to négociants. His production is just 1,000 cases a year, total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and his hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and, although small, it is diverse. He farms 22 plots in eight different villages. Among these are some of the oldest vines in Cham...

Elisabeth Goutorbe and her husband Jean-Marie Egrot run their tiny production Champagne house almost entirely by themselves. They get very little help from their cat Maurice, but can rely on Elisabeth’s father, René Goutorbe of Champagne Henri Goutorbe for a little bit of help. Of the 15 acres they own in Ay, Louvois, Tauxieres and Mutigny, they only keep the fruit from their 2.5 best—mostly in Ay, but also a touch of Louvois Chardonnay for balance. Their home straddles the border of Ay and Mutigny, two great terroirs in the Gand Valley of the Marne, whi...

100 points James Suckling: "This is really something. Electric on the palate. The aromas are so complex with sliced fresh and dried ginger, subtle pie crust, tarte tatin and hints of nutmeg with some salted caramel. Toasted bread, too. Always subtle. The palate is full- to medium-bodied yet hemmed-in with a freshness and balance that draws you back. Savory and vibrant. It's full of energy. Spectacular. Fascinating." (07/2023) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Tautly textured, the Champagne is delicious with a poise between white and citrus fruits along with ...

This Champagne used to be called Elisabeth Goutorbe Cuvée Éclatante. Elisabeth changed the name over to her married name Egrot when she and her husband moved out of her parents' facility in Aÿ, and into their own. It is a 100% estate-grown, direct-import gem. It is a blend of two thirds Pinot Noir and one third Chardonnay, mostly from the grand crus of Ay and Louvois and including some from the premier crus of Tauxieres and Mutigny. Dosage is a little under 8 grams per liter. This wine has the silky texture and tiny streamers that only patience brings. ...

This wonderful vintage Champagne is composed exclusively from old-vine selection massal Pinot Meunier. The two plots it comes from are Les Chaillots, planted in 1970, and Les Jenne Craux, planted in in 1969. The dosage is kept low, at six grams per liter, and it has both power and also refreshment.

97 points James Suckling: "Perfumed with apple, green mangoes, perfume and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied with a creamy and integrated texture and a subtle finish. Bitters. Botanicals. Intense." (07/2023) 96 points Decanter: "Silky, narrowly sculpted and serene, Dom Pérignon 2013 is a less hedonistic release than the 2012 (and less intensely energetic than the 2008), but showcases a beautiful mid-place between tension and expressiveness already. Orange-coloured fruit – apricots, mango and orange – play along with snappy lemon syrup and delicate red fruits,...

Mas Codina is a 40-hectare estate in Alt Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Gran Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 25- to 40-year-old vines and estate-bottled. Vines are planted in calcareous and sandy clay soils which keep the wine minerally and lively. Varietals include Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. 100% hand-riddled, it has spent over 30 months on its lees and is bottled with no dosage.

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 80% Pinot and 20% Chardonnay, with the base 2019 and the rest reserve wine from the past couple of years, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Parcelles is expressive and fruit-forward on opening, with notes of cherry blossom, fresh peach, and honeycomb. With zero grams per liter dosage, there’s no lacking for ripeness and freshness. Long on the palate and quite inviting, it’s going to be wonderful drinking over the coming 8-10 years. 100 points Jane Anson: "Easily the best Champagne I had all year, first tasted at a château lunch. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and eventually bought a bottle for my husband's 50th. Just so much power and precision, while still having the delicacy, easy glamour and the most moreish delivery of fresh acidities and fleshy citrus. At it opens, toasted brioche, liqourice root and oyster shell curl out of the glass. Richard Geoffroy cellar master." 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A ripe, mature wine, with spice and acidity at the service of the vanilla and white-fruit flavors. A fine, balanced wine, this blend of all three main Champagne grapes is ready to drink. *Editors' Choice* (RV) " (09/2023) K&L Notes: This great bottle of vintage champagne shows off the advantages of the fresher style of 2014 with a fantastic combination of Puligny like lime and sourdough toast on the nose, and a very light, but surprisingly persistent impression on the palate. It is entirely estate grown from vineyards in Cha...
In the part of Champagne known most for Pinot Noir, there is a magical place called La Perle Blanche de la Montagne de Reims, the east-facing slope of this small but prominent hill. The first village of this sub-region is the Premier Cru of Trépail, where the Petiau family tends to a small but exceptional vineyard. In the past, this family ran the nursery for the surrounding area, and like many of the best producers in Champagne, they have continued to nurture their own massal selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, choosing not to use the earlier ripeni...

Wine Enthusiast: "Dominated by Pinot Noir, this rich Champagne, mainly from the 2014 harvest, is full of mature fruitiness that is discovering toasty flavors. San Venanzio has won many awards over the years. At K&L they get the coveted "Guido" award of two thumbs up and three stars for value. On the nose, there are generous notes of apples, peaches, tropical fruits, and pear blossom. It’s wonderfully balanced and elegant, with a pleasurable spiciness. The palate is rich and creamy, with pretty fruit closely mirroring the nose and admirable fullness and length. This is balanced, elegant, and an excellent apéritif. 9.0 grams/liter (RS)

Although not labeled as such, this is a Blanc de Noir composed of 60% Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir. It is aged for over four years on the lees and dosed at about ten grams per liter. It has a lovely combination of spiced pear, pie crust, and black cherry on the very generous, open nose. The wine is broad, rich, and textural in the mouth, and has a persistent black fruit finish.

This Champagne is composed of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. The Champagne has a graceful, delicate balance that Verzenay wines sometimes lack but with the signature hazelnut Pinot core. I found it to have creaminess to complement its racy cherry fruit on the palate and an extraordinarily long, dry finish. It is dosed at 9 grams per liter: very dry! It will age very well. The Arnoulds own 27 acres in the village of Verzenay, a quite sizable holding in this high-rent area. It is planted to 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, which is avera...

If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. Juicy and inviting, with a fluffy mousse, it’s full-bodied and has a clean, supple, fruity texture. Produced from Loureiro and Pederña grapes grown in the granitic soils of the Vinho Verde region, the Santola (or as we here are calling it, "the crab wine") is a delicious, spritely, and refreshing white. The Gilbert Jacquesson rosé is entirely estate grown in the village of Troissy, in the heart of the Marne Valley. It is 100% Meunier and it gets its color from specially selected plots of Meunier that are vinified red. 98 points Vinous: "I remember the first time I tasted the 2002 Dom Pérignon with then-Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy at Hautvillers. It was the upcoming release at the time. As was his custom, Geoffroy served the 2002 in a flight that included a number of previous releases. The bouquet was immediately stunning for its audacity. I had never tasted anything like it. Two thousand-two was a year marked by extreme ripeness in the Chardonnays, and that opulence has always been a big part of the wine’s profile. Today, what strikes me most about the 2002 is its ...

This Champagne is made entirely from selected grand cru estate fruit from the village of Mesnil. It is fermented and aged in 600-liter new-oak casks before being bottled and aged four years on the lees. It has a super rich nose of vanilla, sourdough toast, and Mesnil minerals. In the mouth it's very racy and dry, not nearly as broad as the rich nose suggests. I think this is one of the ultimate lobster Champagnes in our stock, and will repay five years of cellaring with a gorgeous drink. If you love Selosse's Origine and Tarlant's Cuvée Louis, this is on...

If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger, and Krug in the past, I think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. This is a great party Champagne, since it is full of flavor yet refreshing and moreish. The hazelnut Pinot character, so unique to the village of Verzenay, is pronounced in this wine, and many good tasters have mistaken it for barrel fermentation (it is...

He is a ninth generation winemaker whose family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and built their cellars in 1822. This bottling is simply great! The Chardonnay comes through on the finish with bright green apple fruit and a touch of minerality.

95 points Decanter: "Finca La Emperatriz is situated close to the borders of the Rioja appellation, in one of the coolest areas in the whole region. So much so that a little bit more to the west, vine cultivation is not feasible. It is also at relatively high altitude – almost 600m – which is particularly beneficial for white grape varieties. Grapes for this wine are Viura from poor soils, which were cool-macerated before crushing. Partly fermented and aged in barrels, partly in concrete vats, with lees contact, for 10 months before bottle ageing. Pedro ...

The whole village faces north, the wrong way, away from the sun, and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir, the most difficult Champagne variety to ripen perfectly. This 100% Meunier from Croutes-sur-Marne is done in the fresh, clean style of Blanc de Noirs. It is an ideal aperitif! The warm bread and tarte-tatin aromas and flavors give this some power for people who like a toastier style, but without going over the edge into heaviness. Again, the bead and texture are spot on, I expect partially due to the cold, dead consistent temperature in their hillside cave. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Jacques Coipel worked in the petrol industry until 2002 when he decided to change career paths and enter the wine business. He purchased an exceptional site in the Cotes du Rhone Village Cru of Valreas. His vineyards sit at around 1200 feet with a mix of clay, limestone and gravel making up the soils. With cooling winds from the north and at this higher altitude, there is a crispness to the wines showing more red fruit qualities in the reds and more vibrant apple tones in the whites.
