One of K&L's very finest buys from France. This is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their fresh...

94 points Bob Campbell: "Smooth, seamless sauvignon with lemongrass, capsicum, lime, passionfruit and subtle mineral flavours. Refreshingly dry with a crisp, mouthwatering and lengthy finish. Refined and sophisticated wine." (11/2022) 94 points Sam Kim: "A beautifully styled Sauvignon, showing Granny Smith apple, nectarine, lime peel and fig characters on the nose. The palate displays pristine fruit flavours with refined texture and zesty acidity, finishing lingering and mouth-watering. Wonderfully expressive and harmonious with true varietal intensity...

98 points Tim Atkin: "2023 Chilean White Wine of the Year "I hope this won't sound like exaggeration, but I can't remember tasting a better Riesling from the New World in the last decade. Sourced from a single 0.7-hectare parcel in one of Chile's most beautiful vineyards, this is an unwooded marvel that used 20% skin fermentation. Celery and honeysuckle aromas lead you into a concentrated, perfectly balanced palate of lime, green apple and wet stones. Stunning." 2023-29" (04/2023) K&L Notes: Rafael Tirado owns one of Chile's truly original properties i...

Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

Winemaker Anthony Girard grew up in his family's Sancerre winery, but spent a number of years learning about wine production all over the world before returning home to continue working with Sauvignon Blanc. While helping with the namesake Girard label, Anthony wanted to create his own project on the side and eventually purchased a small plot of pristine real estate near the town of Récy, with primo Sancerre limestone soils. After acquiring the vines, he was given a large key as a symbolic gesture of new ownership, a "clef du récit," which became the nam...

92 points Vinous: "Bedrock’s 2022 Rosé Ode to Lulu, a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah is one of the more complete Rosés readers will come across. Deep and beautifully layered, Ode to Lulu is a complex wine that will be at home either as an aperitif or as a companion at the dinner table. Rich, red-toned fruit, crushed flowers and subtle earthy notes all open effortlessly. (AG)" (05/2023) K&L Notes: An homage to Lulu Peyraud from Domaine Tempier, this old-vine Mourvèdre is amongst the very best rosé from California, and the world for that matter.
The Millet Sancerre has been a favorite here at K&L for a long time. Grown in limestone-clay soil, the wine reflects the terroir wonderfully. The flavors are bright with lime, mineral, passion fruit, and that wonderful chalkiness one wants from a Sancerre. This wine over-delivers and pairs beautifully with oily seafood dishes, and of course, your favorite cheeses.

The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her grandfather. Before Aurore took over the estate, most of the fruit was sold off through négociants. She has slowly phased out the négociant contracts. The estate is home to more than just vines, with grain crops and farm animals also finding a home there, but for Aurore, the focus is on the wine. She farms organically and empha...

Burghound: "An exuberantly fresh and expressive nose freely offers up its array of mostly citrus-suffused white fleshed fruit aromas. The delicious and agreeably textured flavors conclude in a slightly simple but chiseled, dry and refreshing finale. To enjoy young." (10/2023) K&L Notes: Robert Goulley is made by Domaine Gueguen located in Chablis. The juice is essentially the same wine that goes into the Domaine Gueguen bottlings. From the winery: "Let us tempt you with our Bourgogne Chardonnay, an exceptional wine growing close to Chablis vineyard. Ta...

Domaine Côtes Blanches was established in the 1930s by Bernard and Pierre Millet. In 1980, it was time for the second generation to take the reins, so François and Monique expanded the estate to 21 hectares of vines (15ha of Sauvignon, 6ha of Pinot Noir). After returning from his studies in Beaune, Nicolas (son of François and Monique) joined the family-run estate and brought a newly energized passion. The family is dedicated to the land and the environment by which they are surrounded. All farming is done organically, harvest dates are dictated by natur...

Domaine de la Colombe is based in the village of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, located at elevations between 900 and 1,300 feet. The terroir includes clay-limestone soils in combination with sandier soils in the valley. The higher elevations combined with full sun exposure allow for full ripeness without sacrificing acidic balance and texture. It's a classic patio wine for aperitifs or lightly grilled seafood dishes.
Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. With citrus and stone fruit profiles, zippy acidity, and a minerality that comes from their humble terroir, we think Renaud is one of the best entry-level Burgundy estates we carry at K&L.

89-92 points Burghound: "Note: from a parcel that sits on the opposing hillside from La Forest This is aromatically similar to the Petit Chablis with just a bit more Chablis typicity. There is also better underlying tension and detail that suffuses the medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly more refinement, all wrapped in a more mineral-driven and drier finale. This is excellent for its level and a wine that could also be enjoyed young or held for up to a decade. Buy it. *Burghound Top Value!*" (08/2023) 90-92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Chabl...

Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. Most of the grapes for his red wines come from his own 20 hectares, which are north-facing and located at 600 meters in altitude, affording the visitor with one of the most dramatically beautiful views of Rioja's main mountain ranges: the Sierra Cantabria mountains immediately to the north and the Sierra de la Demanda mountains to the south. Jancis Robinson: "Pinot Noir clone 777 grown in clay soils on a hillside. Direct whole-cluster pressing, then inoculation for a cool-temperature ferment for 42 days. The wine is then racked and cold stabilised before being moved to steel for settling for four months. Filtered before bottling. Pale baby-pink. Aromas of strawberries and watermelon. Flavours of watermelon and berries have a silky texture and nice juiciness thanks to very good acidity. There's a touch of citrus peel lingering in the finish. A textbook summer wine to chill and enjoy. (AY)" (0...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A Mourvèdre that will change the way you think about Mourvèdre. Donkey & Goat gives us a wildly perfumey expression with immediately pronounced aromas of gardenia, white roses and white pepper, along with pops of vibrant red fruits: raspberry, red cherry and cranberry, which carry onto a palate lined with fine-grained tannins and a shivering verve of acidity. This light-bodied wine is perfect at room temp but can also cross into the category of chillable reds, making it a diverse and exciting wine for any occasion, any time of...

Amats is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover crops between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Zuri grapes, this is classic Txakoli: zippy, crisp, tart green apple flavors are enlivened by a lovely sparkle from the CO2 retained in tank during fermentation.

Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things: oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul, we ask each other, "does this pic your poul?"

It's a cool place, and the temperatures were accentuated by the cold 2022 season, which resulted in an electric sauvignon with herbal notes and tart white fruit in a body that's light yet full of nerve and tension.
