2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A brilliant sweet wine that tops out on my scale, the 2001 Château D'Yquem is now fully mature yet still vibrant and pure, with an incredible nose of honeyed marmalade, caramelized tropical fruits, rising bread, marzipan, and lavender. Incredibly complex, full-bodied, and unctuous on the palate, it's one of those rare wines that can deliver incredible richness and decadence while staying pure, light on its feet, and perfectly balanced. A wine that every wine lover should taste once in their life, it should be just about immortal....

With a history dating the to 14th century, Château Olivier is one of the older estates in the Pessac-Leognan sub-zone of Graves. The 2001 vintage was considered excellent in the region, and this wine is showing the beauty of the year in its mature and delicious aromatics and silken mouthfeel. A perfect score for me considering the age and price of this wine. Buy it and enjoy it. I love the 2001 vintage now-many Bordeaux are perfect at 23 years of age. We have rarely carried this Chateau in the past-especially the red wine. After tasting this wine seve...

100 points James Suckling: "This is a crazy wine! It’s sweet, but not sugary. Mushrooms, furniture wax, spices then dried oranges, lemons, pineapples, and just a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied, with great density and power, yet balanced and refined." (05/2012) 100 points Wine Spectator: "Like lemon curd on the nose, turning to honey and caramel. Full-bodied and very sweet, with fantastic concentration of ripe and botrytized fruit, yet balanced and refined. Electric acidity. Lasts for minutes on the palate. This is absolutely mind-blowing. This is the gre...

94 points Wine Spectator: "Bold and structured red. Dark color; black licorice, raspberry and mineral character and hints of dried flowers; full-bodied, with spicy fruit and undertones of black pepper. Chewy finish. This is fantastic. *Highly Recommended* (JS)" (02/2004) 92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Serpico is another wine that appears to need more bottle age. Today it is in an in-between stage where the fruit is no longer primary but the tertiary notes aren’t fully developed either. The 2001 is a powerful Serpico with impressive tannic clout tha...

94 points Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for a St.-Estephe look-alike should check out this brooding, monster Cabernet Sauvignon from Bill Seavey and winemaker Philippe Melka. Tasting nearly the same as it did eight years ago, it reveals stunning, sweet chocolaty notes interwoven with notions of burning embers, loamy soil, black currants and forest floor. The complex aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, powerful, backward wine that still needs 8-10 years of cellaring. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot from the dry-farmed hills...

93 points Wine Advocate: "Here is a typical Coutet nose that is just beginning to find its groove: barley sugar and quince scents typifying Barsac, augmented by Seville orange and lime. The palate is viscous and extremely well focused with fine mineralité and tension. It feels quite youthful and linear vis-à-vis its peers and concludes with a tangy, marmalade-lavished finish. (NM)" (10/2014) 93 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Subdued but pure aromas of mirabelle, peach, pear and pineapple; hints at a roasted botrytis ripeness. Then fat and rich in the mouth...

94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of walnut, pine needle and cedar with blackberries and cherries. Medium-bodied with round, juicy tannins and a slightly dry finish, but still holding on nicely. Soft and creamy. " (05/2021)
Price: $239.99

97 points James Suckling: "This is really beautiful and decadent with mushroom, chocolate, plum and sliced-meat character. Even some foie gras. Full-bodied, tight and linear. Racy finish. Delicious now and beyond. " (01/2019) 96 points Wine Advocate: "A great showing for this wine in the mini-vertical, the 2001 Pavie has a slight lightening at the edge of its dark garnet/plum/purple color and a big, sweet kiss of cedar wood, incense, licorice, blackberry and lead pencil shavings. The wine is dense, very rich, multilayered and finishes with at least a 4...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A wonderfully firm, concentrated wine that walks a fine, balanced line between richness and poised structure. It is classic in the best sense, showing all the shape of a fine Bordeaux, while adding the extra dimension of the freshest of black fruits, complexity from a few hints of wood, and a dark, brooding, long-lasting aftertaste. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (12/2007) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Léoville Barton is still a few years from full maturity. Unwinding in the decanter and glass with aromas of blackcurrant, lico...

2001 Hyde de Villaine "HdV" Carneros Bordeaux Blend
Back In Stock!
91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "**Two Stars** This involving Merlot-based assemblage begins with deep, very well-concentrated aromas of cherries, chocolate and smoky oak, and it makes good on its promise with broad, impressively extracted flavors that keep ripe cherry fruit fixed at center stage. It is moderately full-bodied, wonderfully supple in feel and firmed by a nice bit of late-arriving tannins, and, if very tasty in its youth, it deserves to be left alone for another four or five years." (05/2004) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "They pulled out all ...

98 points Decanter: "Small concentrated berries from a long harvest that lasted from 1st September 1 to 19th October. Michael Salacci arrived as winemaker this year, taking over as Patrick Léon retired. This was the first time that Opus had its own winemaker, and immediatley you feel the impact of his work. He felt instinctively that Opus needed to go richer, and from this point on it more regularly hits the Californian stride. It comes through in the construction of the wine, almost chewy, with striking, sexy dark chocolate, black pepper and cassis frui...

2001 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Back In Stock!
97 points Decanter: "Still surprisingly dark in the glass, with an enticing, gamey, liquorice, animal nose. More gaminess on the bright-acid palate, with herbal nuances and just-ripe blackberry fruit. Very open and juicy, with enjoyably strict tannins and a fresh, long, ferrous, bloody finish. A vintage that has always had acidity and freshness, according to Jean-Louis Chave. (MW)" (12/2023) 96 points James Suckling: "Super chalky nose with peach blossom and orange blossom leading to peach, orange citrus and orange peel flavors. This still has a little...

2 Glasses Gambero Rosso. 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Pungent dried red berries and rose complicated by mocha, leather and spices: classic perfumed sangiovese. Then suave and silky in the mouth, with lovely vinosity and length thanks to harmonious acidity. Flavors similar to the aromas. Dry, concentrated and firmly structured Brunello, with excellent mouth coverage, fine-grained tannins and excellent persistence." (July/Aug 06) 91 points Robert Parker: "This family-run estate makes an excellent Brunello from its 15...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2007) 96 points Vinous: "The 2001 Léoville Las Cases is simply stunning. I was fully prepared to decant it given that Las Cases is almost always a brute in its youth. And make no mistake about it, a twenty...

97 points Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Amarone is on another level entirely. It exudes notable warmth and ripeness, with profound layers of Venezuelan bitter chocolate, herbs, licorice, smoke, dark fruit and toasted oak. Made in an explosive style, this palate-staining Amarone possesses remarkable detail and nuance for such a big wine. It has been phenomenal on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. (AG)" (10/2007) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A dense, tightly packed red, with currant, raisin, pungent earth and oak. Full-bodied, with well-placed tannins ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "To call Kirwan a rising star is no longer true, since this property, owned by the Schyler family, and with Michel Rolland as consultant, is now firmly back in its right quality place among classed growths. It is modern in style, as is expected, but the dark, black currant, extracted fruits, new wood and structure don't detract from its elegance. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (06/2005) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Very pretty red with violet, vanilla and berry character. Medium- to full-bodied, with a fine finish. Lovely subtlety and...

95 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruits from pear and apples to all citrus. Honey undertones too. Full body, tangy fruit and acidity. Hints of limes and vanilla also. A fascinating wine. Drinking heritage. Aged six or seven years in used American wood. Drink or hold." (07/2015) 95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Vina Tondonia Reserva is bridled with a lovely nose of decayed red fruit, fireside hearth, a touch of mulberry and small red cherry. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp red fruits (wild strawberry and cranberry) with a ...

94 points Wine Spectator: "Loads of plum, chocolate and spices on the nose here. Full-bodied, with supersoft tannins and a long, rich aftertaste. This gives you loads of everything in a reserved, determined way. Better than the 2000." (10/2005) 92 points Wine Advocate: "I would be hard-pressed to name another Barolo that delivers as much pure drinking pleasure at its price point than Cavallotto’s gorgeous 2001 Barolo Bricco Boschis. It is a muscular, structured wine with deeply expressive layers of tar, menthol, spice and dark cherry flavors that flow ...

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Merryvale "Profile" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (93WE). Wine Enthusiast: "An amazingly delicious and complex wine. Dark and rich, filled with blackcurrant, cocoa and new oak flavors and lush, sweet tannins. Finishes with a scour of fresh acidity. Made from some of Napa’s greatest vineyards, such as To-Kalon and Georges III, this is a wine with a great future. " (12/2004)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine du Clos du Caillou "Réserve le Clos du Caillou" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 96ST, 96WS). Wine Advocate: "An off-the-charts effort that was one of my wines of the trip, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Le Clos du Caillou is a spectacular effort that doesn’t put a foot wrong. Getting a bevy of incredible, spectacular, and a few other adjectives (i.e. expletives) in the notes, this rock-star-of-a-Chateauneuf boasts off-the-hook notes of blackcurrants, saddle leather, beef blood, pepper, spring flowers and licorice. Possessing full-bodied richness on the palate, with beautiful underlying structure and depth, this incredible effort represents the essence of this fabulous terroir, and is a thrilling drink that I wish every Rhone- lover could have the opportunity to taste. (JD)" (08/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (93BH, 93VN, 92JG, (89-91RP)). Vinous: "Healthy medium red. Musky wild raspberry, coffee and Cuban cigar tobacco on the nose and palate. Suave and velvety but with terrific energy and retention of red fruit flavor. The tobacco element is quite apparent in the mouth. Nicely integrated acidity and tannins accentuate the wine's smoothness and give it sex appeal. Jeremy Seysses noted that the estate did more destemming of the fruit in 2001 than in most vintages but that the whole-cluster element 'rounded things off.' (ST)" (04/2017)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (91BH, 90RP). Burghound: "This is slowing transforming itself into a really lovely wine of weight, depth and intensity with a richly detailed, expressive nose and impressively pure and harmonious flavors that offer superb clarity of expression. This is a classical Burgundy lover's dream with linearity, purity, harmony and simply knock out delineation plus a subtle complexity that is finesse personified. Consistent notes and this is one of those wine that has such balance that it can easily be enjoyed now or held for further development. Personally, I would advise holding it for a few more years but as I note, it can certainly be drunk now with pleasure." (07/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Dujac Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-93JG), 91BH, 91ST). John Gilman: "The Charmes is more on form than the Gruenchers today and displays excellent potential. The nose offers up a lovely blend of black cherries, plums, a touch of Gevrey meat, dark chocolate, herbs and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full, complex and possesses a fine core of fruit. The tannins are ripe and buried in the fruit, and the vintage’s acids provide a fine tangy framework for the wine. This will be another fine Charmes and well worth a spot in the cellar. " (01/2003)
Current Bid: $511.00

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Georges Roumier Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru ((90-91RP)). Wine Advocate: "Aromatically, the 2001 Corton-Charlemagne bursts with a plethora of spices. A well-focused effort, it reveals delineated flavors of crisp pears, nuts, spices, and gravel. Medium-bodied and lively, it exhibits a long, buttered juniper berry-filled, detailed finish." (06/2003)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Claret (96RP, 94ST, 93WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Reserve Claret (an intriguing blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot) is a massive mountain wine possessing both power and elegance. Its dense saturated ruby/purple color is followed by youthful aromas of creme de cassis, new saddle leather, toasty oak, crushed rocks and spring flowers. Extremely young, vigorous, full-bodied and multidimensional, this is a layered, supple textured wine with enormous fruit and richness as well as a tremendously long finish. ne of the most impressive high elevation wines made in northern California...(RP) 96+" (06/2011)

Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (100JD, 100JS, 100RP, 100TWI, 100VN, 100WS). Vinous: Just weeks after tasting the 2001 Château d’Yquem at the estate, another bottle was served at a lunch in London and it was perfection. The aromatics are practically identical and likewise the palate, but this bottle, which had been decanted, displays a scintilla more tension, perhaps more vibrancy that so effortlessly counterbalances the richness. Irrespective of points, it is simply one of the most magnificent wines of any kind that can pass your lips. (NM) (09/2021)
Current Bid: $900.00

Bid on this magnum of 2001 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 97WS). Wine Advocate: "Remarkably, the 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon may be even better. Staggeringly pure notes of creme de cassis, violets, licorice and graphite soar from the glass of this inky/purple-colored wine. Composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, and tasting like it is 2-3 years old, it is a stunningly pure, rich, full-bodied, prodigious example of high elevation mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that will not reach full maturity for another 5-7 years, and should age beautifully for another two decades or more. It is a magical wine to smell, taste and contemplate. (RP) 98+ " (06/2011)
Current Bid: $280.00

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis Grand Cru (93BH, 91ST). Burghound: "A mature though still attractively fresh and elegant nose offers up notes of spice, mature and notably earthy fruit, smoke and a hint of game that is framed in just enough wood to notice. There is an abundant minerality to the delicious, round and intense medium-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense of detail on the dusty finish that delivers excellent length. For my taste this has arrived at its peak though it should hold here for many years. Tasted several times with consistent notes." (10/2013)

Current Bid: $67.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (93RP, 93VN, 92WS). Vinous: "Bright, pale yellow color. Highly complex but subtle aromas of yellow plum, honey and vanilla. Fatter and fuller than the young 2002, with superb thickness of texture but also terrific definition and cut. Big, chewy wine, with an almost saline impression of extract. This really fills the mouth. Very long and gripping on the back. (ST)" (05/2003)
Current Bid: $1,050.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 94VN, 93WE, 90WS). Wine Advocate: "Just hitting late adolescence, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee exhibits an opaque dark purple color along with a beautiful, smoky, sweet black currant, licorice, truffle, toast and underbrush-scented nose. With fabulous concentration, great intensity and tremendous purity, this voluptuously textured, full-bodied classic is one of the all-time great Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. While drinkable now, it will continue to evolve for at least another 20 years. Of all the superb Private Reserve vintages, the 2001 ranks alongside the 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2005 and 2007. " (05/2011)
Current Bid: $285.00

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (98VN, 95RP). Vinous: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is flat-out stunning. That's the good news. The not so good news is that it remains very, very young! Apparently, the three years Randy Dunn gave the 2001 in barrel were not enough. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2001 is an especially somber wine packed with dark fruit, gravel, spice and menthol accents. This is the sort of wine that make you hope actuarial tables are on your side! Quite frankly, the 2001 might need another decade to be at its best, but I am hopeful five might be enough. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Vineyard sources in 2001 were Trailer, Frank and Park Muscatine. (AG)" (10/2021)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru ((91-93RP), 91ST, 91WS, 90BH). Wine Advocate: "Blackberries and cassis can be discerned in the nose of the big, bold 2001 Clos Vougeot. An inky, enormously deep, medium-bodied wine, it slathers the palate with intensely flavored black cherries, a myriad spices, juniper berries, toast, and hints of licorice. Powerful, fleshy, and fresh, it has a sumptuous finish that exhibits some road tar-like flavors. (PR)" (06/2003)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Silverado Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Enthusiast: "A well behaved Cab that displays forward fruit and softly smooth, gentle tannins, as well as polished oak. The flavors of currants and cassis impress on the finish. " (12/2004)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Rotllan Torra "Tirant" Priorat ((96-98RP), 95JD, 91ST). Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9, 000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. (RP)" (04/2004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (94JG, 94VN, 93BH). Vinous: "Moderately saturated red. Wonderfully suave, mellow, inviting scents of raspberry, mocha, smoke and underbrush; the most resolved and integrated nose to this point of the tasting. A classic, harmonious Clos des Lambrays with impeccable balance and a wonderfully refined, silky texture to its flavors of red cherry, red berries, mocha and underbrush energized by high notes of pepper and spices. Not a powerhouse but this beauty fills the mouth while conveying a magically weightless impression. Finishes with sweet, perfectly supported tannins, a sexy floral quality and subtle building length. It is a magical wine to smell, taste and contemplate. These impressive 2001s from Pride Mountain Vineyards were made during the regime of Bob Foley and the late Jim Pride.
