Wine Advocate: "Dark plum/garnet-tinged with some amber at the edge, the 1979 offers up notes of garrigue, truffles, damp earth, hints of iodine and seaweed (which I associate more with wines made within 100 kilometers of the Mediterranean coastline, not the Atlantic Ocean), sweet currants, plums, cherries, cedar and roasted herbs. This medium-bodied, elegant, fully mature 1979 is a lighter version of La Mission than the 1978, but, for the vintage, it is a dramatic, authoritative effort. From Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France: "For many, Talbot embodies the ideal Saint Julien, a generous bouquet, extremely stable and dependable during aging." The 107-hectare vineyard is located in the heart of Saint-Julien and is comprised of alluvial gravel soils that have proven perfectly suited to Bordeaux varieties over the centuries.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1979 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 92VN). Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep brick colored, the 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour features well-defined dried cranberries, redcurrant jelly and stewed plums notes with hints of dried lavender, eucalyptus, bouquet garni, damp soil and pencil shavings plus a touch of leather. Medium-bodied and sporting a modest alcohol level of 13%, the palate offers fantastic intensity and a firm, chewy frame, culminating in loads of savory and exotic spice-accented layers on the finish. This vintage is currently holding a nice plateau, so no rush to drink. (LPB)" (05/2019)

Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 1979 Diamond Creek "Gravelly Meadow" Cabernet Sauvignon (94JG), 1-bottle of 1979 Diamond Creek "Red Rock Terrace" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (90WS), and 1-bottle of 1979 Diamond Creek "Volcanic Hill" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94JG). Of the 1979 Diamond Creek "Gravelly Meadow" Cabernet Sauvignon, John Gilman writes: "I have made a lot of notations about alcohol levels in my notes on many of the younger wines I have tasted from California, as I firmly believe that it is a key fundament in determining how well a wine will age over the long-term, and for wines such as cabernet sauvignon, I frankly just have little interest drinking them young. Here is a beautiful example on how a lower octane cabernet can age brilliantly, as the powerful style of Diamond Creek’s 'mountain cabernets' found the ’79 Volcanic Hill tipping the scales at a cool and collected twelve percent alcohol!"
