99 points James Suckling: "A beautifully layered red with blackcurrant, hazelnut and lead-pencil character and fine, velvety tannins. Full-bodied and reserved. It’s like a tightly knit ball of polished tannins that are cashmere in texture. So very long and impressive. Give this time. A terrific Lynch." (12/2022) 98 points Decanter: "One of my favourite wines of the vintage, this is a wonderful example of high definition winemaking but still offering plenty of Pauillac swagger. Smells dark and slightly savoury, full of black fruit and toasted aromas. Br...

100 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this are incredible with blueberry, minerals, dried flowers, and stones. It goes to dried meat and spices. Full body and incredibly integrated with blackberry, licorice, and minerals. There's a wonderful purity to this. It goes on for minutes. The quality of tannins is amazing. Seamless. There's an amazing transparency that shows you all the elements of the wine's unique terroir." 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A consistently perfect wine every time I've had it, the 2009 Château Pontet-Canet is the greatest wine from this address to date as well as one of the greatest Pauillacs out there. Still youthfully ruby/purple and with a gorgeous perfume of blackcurrants, lead pencil, graphite, crushed rocks, and damp earth, it's still youthful but is just now starting to show more nuance and complexity. Full-bodied on the palate, with a powerful, concentrated mid-palate, incredible depth of fruit, and flawless balance, Bordeaux simply does not g...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure class, the 2019 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande is another brilliant wine from director Nicolas Glumineau that checks in at the top of the vintage. A blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc that was harvested from mid-September through October 8th. Brought up in roughly 60% new French oak, it hit 14.1% natural alcohol with a pH of 3.7. More elegant and poised from bottle than barrel, it offers a brilliant perfume of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and ...

98 points Jane Anson: "Inky ruby colour even at 10 years old, easily as good as the 2016 and possibly even better. You can spend a lot more money on wines of this vintage and not get as much pleasure as you are getting in the glass here. Pure brilliant Pauillac, dripping with liquorice, black chocolate, rose petals, blackberries, liqourice, smoked earth, cassis, all poised with purity. Only just thinking about its drinking window, and just so generous and balanced even now, but come back in 10 years and it will only have moved on a few tiptoes - this is ...

100 points James Suckling: "Dark ruby, purple color. Aromas of blackcurrants, black truffle, crushed stone, licorice and hints of tar. Full-bodied, deep and vertical on the palate, drawing you in and down. The structure is very tannic and powerful, yet the tannins are folded into the wine. One of the most powerful Moutons ever for me." (02/2019) 100 points Wine Advocate: "Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Mouton Rothschild has an opaque garnet-purple color. 100 points Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estate’s great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa a...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "There are tannins, structure and power, but also supreme elegance. The 2004 acidity comes through in the sweet cassis flavors, supported at the back by dry tannins. Currently, the wine is closed up, losing some of its fresh fruit, but this is a moment in its slow evolution towards a classic Latour. (RV)" (06/2007) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Captivating aromas of currant, black licorice and spices, with just a hint of sweet tobacco. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Structured and racy. *Collectibles* (...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure perfection, and reminding me slightly of the 1982, the 2009 Château Mouton Rothschild boasts an opaque ruby hue as well as an incredibly perfumed, sexy, seductive style in its ripe currant and cassis fruits as well as new saddle leather, spicy oak, smoke tobacco, and graphite-driven aromas and flavors. Complex, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, with sweet tannins, this masterpiece is already impossible to resist yet won't hit full maturity for another decade and will evolve for 50-60 years if well stored." 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Château Lynch-Bages is stunningly good, and it's going to be interesting to compare this to the 2018 over the coming decades. Based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 75% new French oak, its dense purple hue is followed by an incredible bouquet of pure crème de cassis, freshly sharpened cedar pencil, spring flowers, smoke, and graphite, with an almost liqueur of rocks-like minerality. (RV)" (06/2007) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Shows beautiful aromas of crushed berries and currants, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with lovely currant, licorice and mint. Long and caressing. Very refined and balanced red. Another winner from Pontet-Canet. *Highly Recommended, Top 100 Wines of 2007* (JS)" (03/2007) 92 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Pontet-Canet vertical in Lon...

99 points Jane Anson: "Muscular but finely-tuned, with a floral, rose-stem edge to Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant flavours that elevates this beyond its surrounding vintages, as is often the case with exceptional 2016s on the Left Bank. Give it time in the glass if you are going near it any time soon, and allow the brambled fruits to appear, with creamy black cherry and damson puree on full display finessed with pencil lead, plum pudding, liqourice and slate-strewn tannins that give a mouth-watering finish. Great stuff, this is one to savour over the long t...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The spectacular 2003 Pontet Canet is still incredibly young and vigorous. This full-bodied classic boasts a dense purple color as well as a superb nose of graphite, creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and a hint of truffles, low acidity, and extravagant richness. Most of the tannins have been resolved in this superstar of the vintage. It should continue to drink well for 10-15+ years. 91-93 points Wine Advocate: "My first really ancient claret, tasted at Chateau Doisy-Vedrines next to the person who proffered the bottle, proprietor Charles Chevalier who had raided the chateau's cellar. A truly exquisite nose: very complex with small red berries, damp woodland, earth and truffles. A wonderful palate with mature herby fruits and a touch of walnut. Medium to light bodied and becoming fragile in the glass. (NM)" (07/2000)

97 points Decanter: "The nose showed warm and sunny, baked black and red fruit on the nose and a supple but dense texture. The impressive level of tannin noted in earlier tastings is softening now, and the wine is ready to drink but will hold. A lovely wine, outperforming the 1996 at this point. Picking was finished in September, taking place from the 13th to the 27th. The final blend is nearly three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon, with just a drop of Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and Merlot for the balance. (CC)" (02/2022) 96 points Wine Advocate: "A ...

Located on the gravelly ridges of the village of St-Lambert in Pauillac, Château Gaudin is a vineyard of 4 hectares acquired in 1901. Three generations later, the estate is still family owned and run. The estate is now 11 hectares total with Cabernet Sauvignon dominating the plantings along with a smattering of Merlot and Carménère. Its classic Pauillac stature frames black fruits, tobacco, and gravelly soil tones with robust and firm tannins providing structure.
90 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh and focused, with violet, berry and cherry character. Medium body, with silky tannins and a clean finish. (JS)" (03/2004) Wine Advocate: "The elegant second wine, 2001 Carruades de Lafite reveals notions of lead pencil shavings intertwined with cherry, currant, cranberry, and wet stone-like aromas. 100 points Decanter: "Smoked grilled tar on the nose, it feels both very 2010 and supremely Mouton - accomplished and confident. A more glamorous, enticing edge than the other Pauillac Firsts at this 10 year window. There are plentiful tannins but they are lined with air, and the overall feel is of plush, plumped fruits, like being rolled-up in luxurious sheets. It is very different in character to the other two Pauillac Firsts, but no less enjoyable. It feels higher in alcohol, more Cos than Lafite in terms of personality, in the way that Pichon Baron i...

Made from 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, this inky purple-colored effort offers sensational Cabernet flare in its crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings, floral, and Asian spice aromas and flavors. It is full-bodied, dense, and incredibly concentrated, yet still has the sexy, opulent, seductive style of the vintage front and center. It will be a candidate for perfection in ...

This was rather controversial at the NY tasting, but I loved it.--Latour vertical. Drink now through 2015." (08/2000) 90 points Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/garnet-colored 1975 Latour offers up a dry, mineral, tobacco, stony-scented nose with red and black currants competing with cedar, spice box, and balsam wood aromas. It changes all the time in the glass, just as in the nose. Yet, it remains cool and classy. Full-bodied with very fine, tight tannins that run the length of the wine, carrying on and on and on. 95 points Decanter: "Another wine that is packed with Pauillac signature; one where you feel the tightness and the bristle of the tannins. They have done a great job of carefully extracting the tannins while maintaining a fresh menthol current running through the backbone of the wine. The fruit lacks a little plushness and concentration compared to the 2016 or 2018, but this is impressive. It's a year where names count, and Lynch Bages is claiming its place at the table. 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "At the time it was shown as a barrel sample in early 2007, this was the best wine of 2006. That accolade remains. It has all the power of the Cabernet Sauvignon in Pauillac, which was the greatest success of the vintage. That power comes from the dense tannins as well as the black plum and spice flavors and minerality. The texture becomes velvet, giving a final richness, but never losing its long aging potential. In a year that is good, but not at the top, Mouton has made a great wine. *Top 100 Wines of 2009, Cellar Selection*...

100 points Vinous: "The 2005 Latour was mind-blowingly profound in two recent tastings for this report. Deep and sensual to the core, the 2005 is utterly captivating. All the elements are so seamlessly put together. Graphite, crème de cassis, licorice, dark spice and lavender infuse the 2005 with so much energy. More than anything else, though, the 2005 is a Latour of texture and resonance. Even after several hours, the 2005 is fresh and full of energy. Wines like this are just life affirming. That's about all I can really say. (AG)" (04/2021) 100 poin...

Excellent quality, and now starting to open - it was a baby at the 10 years on tasting but has inched open over the past three years. Harvest from October 2-15, with relatively low yields of 34hl/ha. Jancis Robinson: "45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot. Very small vintage (20-25% of the usual crop) due to the hard frost 21 Apr. Serious frost damage to new shoots. Slightly bricky rim but garnet core. Fresh and cedary but less fragrant than the 1996. A little sappy and nutty. Touch of undergrowth on the nose and comes through more on the palate. Dry, fine tannins, fully resolved and sweet. Some sweetness of undergrowth and red fruit. Just enough fruit to be in balance now but I wouldn't keep it much longer. Good fo...

From Robert Parker…'One of the most consistent wines made in Bordeaux since the late seventies, Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (called Pichon-Lalande by its admirers) is unquestionably one of France's most popular wines. It combines wonderful finesse, complexity, and supple richness with adequate availability and early drinkability. Although it only has two candidates among this century's greatest Bordeaux wines, the estate has produced a bevy of delicious, well-made wines. Pichon-Lalande produces approximately 25,000 cases of wine from its 150...

Excellent balance of power and smooth texture. Noé Tesseron described it as 'older school Pauillac', and I liked it a lot. Long finish. Aged 60% new oak. (PK)" (09/2021) 94 points James Suckling: "I drank this fabulous 2000 Pontet-Canet in Hong Kong last summer at home with family. 98 points Decanter: "Mouton was voluptuous and immediately appealing, with spicy ripe cassis and plum fruit that poured from the glass, surrounded by liquorice, coconut, and toasted cedar. The texture was not abrasive but very full-bodied and round. The tannins initially appeared fine-grained and silky, but with a bit of time, one realised the immense structure of this wine. Impressively concentrated and very long on the finish, this is still youthful and should age for decades to come. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 14% Merlot, with a touch of...

Full-bodied with firm tannins yet polished and velvety. It still has an incredible freshness. I love it." (07/2013) 95 points Wine Advocate: "Made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, this spectacular 2003 hits all the sweet spots on the palate. 94 points Decanter: "A rich and enticing nose, dark and brooding with sweet spices and bramble fruit touches. You can smell the ripe fruit and heat of the vintage. Plush tannins are offset by mouthwatering acidity on the palate - all in balance with a juicy core. Distinct power but there is also tons of freshness and an underlying minerality. Depth and layers of flavour with a slightly 'hot' finish, clearly a step up in terms of concentration and general structure after the 2014. Still, this would benefit from more time with lots more ageing potential. (...

Try after 2028." (12/2022) 98 points Vinous: "The 2020 Pichon Baron is every bit as magnificent as it was en primeur. A rush of dark red and purplish stone fruit, mint, new leather, spice and blood orange give the 2015 a very decidedly exotic character that is impossible to miss. Raspberry jam, mocha, new leather and expressive floral notes appear with time in the glass, rounding things out nicely. There is more fruit concentration and much more intensity. The medium-bodied palate features sappy black fruit laced with seaweed and orange peel. A lovely underlying saline edge lends tension toward the finish. This d’Armailhac is maturing beautifully and clearly has the upper hand over its millennial counterpart. (NM)" (06/2021)

Although August was hot, there was rain at harvest and the team didn't begin to pick until October in an effort to wait it out. The final blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The grand vin is made with just over half of the grapes from the estate.
