Precedent was founded by Nathan Kandler who fell into a career in winemaking after a summer stint as a bartender provided the proverbial "bite" from the wine bug. The Kirschenmann Vineyard is recognized as one of Lodi’s great old-vine Zinfandel vineyards. Planted in 1915 on its own roots, this organically farmed vineyard has fast become one of Lodi’s most prized sites under the stewardship of famed winemaker Tegan Passalaqua. The sandy silica soils and the river’s cooling influence make this vineyard one of a kind. Nathan’s winemaking hand has everything...

The Perlegos Assyrtiko is a delightful wine for summer drinking. From the winery: "The Thera Block of Assyrtiko is located in 25 miles northeast of Lodi in the village of Clements. Assyrtiko's birthplace is the Mediterranean island jewel of Santorini, officially called Thera. The grape is the current face of Greek wine and for good reason - it's spectacular, intense and stands out in a crowd. There is very little of the grape planted in the new world. As sons of Greek immigrants we are especially proud to be amongst the first to grow & produce this wine ...

92-94 points Vinous: "The 2021 Zinfandel Del Barba emerges from a site that formerly was used for the Duarte bottling. Bright and punchy, with gorgeous purity, the 2021 is positively stellar. Bright red/purplish Zinfandel fruit, blood orange and exotic spice abound. This is such a compelling wine...the 2021 hugely overdelivers.(AG)" (01/2023) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The Del Barba Vineyard fruit, from vines planted around 40 years ago, used to be incorporated into the Duarte wine. This is the first time it has been bottled on its own, winemaker Tegan ...

Flame Tokay is one of the rarest grape varieties in California. The vines at Blodgett Vineyard are approaching 100-years of age, planted in 1926! The grape has a pinkish hue to its skin and so this wine is part rose and part orange wine as it was fermented with extended skin contact.

94 points Vinous: "The 2019 Mataro Pato Vineyard is positively stellar. Rich, deep and beautifully layered, the 2019 offers up a host of dark red/purplish fruit along with floral, savory and spice accents that add complexity. This vibrant, nuanced Mataro has so much to offer. (AG)" (01/2022) K&L Notes: From 120-year-old vines in Pato Vineyard. These ancient vines are in good hands, now cared for by the team at Bedrock. Fine Disregard owner/winemaker Mike Schieffer works his day job alongside Tegan Passalaqua as the assistant winemaker at Turley.

Winemaker Craig Haarmeyer is California's "Mr. Chenin Blanc," and his St. Rey bottling from Clarksburg is a delicious iteration of the Loire Valley's signature white grape. Made from grapes grown in sandy soils alongside the Sacramento River, where cool delta breezes refresh the vines under California's signature sunshine, the resulting wine is bright, fresh, and lively with flavors of lemon zest, green apple, and just-picked pear all underscored by white rock minerality. A stellar value.

91 points James Suckling: "Attractive aromas of mangoes, papayas, baked apples and custard. Deliciously tropical and fleshy, with a medium to full body and a juicy, fruity finish. 80% chenin blanc and 20% viognier." (06/2023) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Distinctive, aromatic and refreshing, this juicy white has hints of Fuji apple, lime zest, honeysuckle and chamomile, plus a core of ripe peach, apricot and melon. 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Chenin Blanc was matured in stainless steel and 20% used oak for six months. It has very pretty scents of white peach, honeysuckle, beeswax, biscuit and green herbs. The palate is silky, mouthwatering and surprisingly gregarious with intense, nutty fruit and a long, elegant finish. Generous yet structured, the Aperture Chenin Blanc is getting better every year, and this 2021 is worthy of 3-5+ years in bottle. (EB)" (03/2023) 92 points Decanter: "Tight, fresh, and floral on the nose. On the palate, this Chenin sourced ...

94 points Vinous: "The 2021 Pato Vineyard Heritage Wine is dark and brooding from the outset. Black cherry, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs, menthol, tobacco and cured meats are all amplified. In 2021, the Pato is mostly Zinfandel, with a big chunk of Petite Sirah, and it is the Petite that very much drives the overall feel. (AG)" (08/2023) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Displaying semi-opaque ruby hue and a deeper, sunnier tone, the 2021 Pato Vineyard Heritage Red Wine is composed of mostly Zinfandel and Petit Syrah. It takes on a darker savory profil...

Grapes from the Sprague Family Vineyard located in the Clements Hills AVA of Lodi, California. From the winery: "Lovingly farmed by the Sprague Family on gravelly loam in the hilly terrain of far-eastern Lodi. The grapes were fermented 100% whole cluster using native yeasts. The 2020 was a fan favorite in our previous release and we feel the 2021 version will be no different. Floral with ripe strawberries, blackberries & spice."

The Stampede Vineyard is located 25 miles northeast of Lodi, California, and was planted in the 1920s. From the winery: "The grapes were fermented using native yeasts and minimally handled until bottling after 11 months in neutral barrels. This wine is young, but it tastes ancient, like a mossy California forest that's been warmed by the hot, California Sun. With notes of red cherry, blackberry, tobacco, and wild herbs, it holds fine-graied tannins, firm acidity and a long finish. Pair with your favorite barbecue, spicy curry, or leg of lamb."
